Ryze has no longer any sustain in his kit to be considered a battle mage,
Swain can heal himself, Vladimir can heal himself, Casseopeia can heal herself, Sylas can shield himself and heal himself, Viktor can sustain himself with his shield,
Ryze cannot just go toe to toe against a bruisers, all he does now is E,E,Q the minions waves and wait for late game.

Like dps mage is not a subclass. Also vlad,swain and especially cass all do damage over time.

You know Viktor constantly shield himself? I didn't say you have to heal yourself to be called a battle mages, I said SUSTAIN thats means very low cooldown shield are considered too.

You could have you know, think ahead or deeper? What makes a battlemages stand out of the rest of the other mages?
Tanky right? But they don't have tank stats! But they have some form of sustains right? Yea Sustains, but what kind of sustains? Shield and Spellvamp on a very low cooldown.
Then you can say, they are mostly mid to low ranges champions, they do alot of sustained damages, they are played frontline times to times!

Look I've had my fair share of Ryze games. This current Ryze is the best iteration of Ryze so far. It is ok to change the class of a champion if the class they were intentionally designed in doesn't work. Honestly, Ryze isn't too bad as a pseudo front line late game if you can kite.

Only Ravenous was enough to give him decent healing. He doesn't need anything else.

His original ult was a move speed and 50% spell vamp self-buff..... He was machine gun then too (with each spell cast knocking a second of all others spells cd)... He'd be mostly useless early and then hit r%%%%%ed unkillable levels late game.

In the early stages of the game, before his first rework his ult upon activating gave him 20% spell vamp.

inuitmailman1 votesI’ve been playing a lot of the new Ryze and I definitely like this new Ryze better than 9.10.... excepttttt THE SHIELD. OP is right it feels REAL bad that you have to be this close to anyone to do anything good and still not get any bonuses for successfully kiting or getting your combos off. I wonder if making the runes that he gets for e, q-ing instead of giving him a speed boost give him a shield of some kind. Either way I like playing him much more besides that:)

You know what else those people don't have? Ranged click target hard CC.
jocomotion1 votesBeing a battlemage doesn’t mean you need self sustain, you just need to be able to deal constant DPS with Spells while being somewhat durable.
For Ryze it’s the fact that he can build tanky items with less damage fall off now, they got rid of the shield because it was overloaded (kek) on his Q.
