For the Assassin Rework can you remove the Kassadin Joke?

I tried to silence my mother once... Boy did I regret that.

Yeah it would make sense back when his Silence was the longest in the game which was 2.5sec. You guys can change it to I tried to interrupt my mother once... Boy did I regret that. I mean his Q interrupt channel, Or give him a new Voice Actor, with some interaction between champions.

Or give him back his silence in some fashion, replace the slow on his aoe with a silence since it's already conditional; make him an anti-assassin assassin, that'd be unique.

Spoofghoul20 votes

Yes this would be reasonable he needs a buff anyways

they could use his E for that maybe even make it less conditional but stronger when charged ltes say needs 1 spell cast in vincinity before he can use it but it'd be a weak slow

2th charge bit more damage bit more slow 3th charge a grounded is added 4th charge more damage bit more slow and final charge the grounded would be a silence

kassadin is really weak right now so something liek this would make him more interesting as in do wait for a stronger E or do i go ham now its risky because they might get away if you don't use it

charging it up gives good damage and good cc

this would make kassadin more viable again i think

i think this is an awesome idea that rito should toy with

I'm sorry to do this but i gotta be that guy : 2th --> 2nd 3th ---> 3rd

The only way Riot could reasonably give him a silence back is by making it so he can't blink in, silence you and do his damage and blink out before the silence ends. Basically they would have to hard nerf his ult for this.

No, they just have to not give him an instant silence like he used to have one. If for example they give him a silence when he hit you with Q+E and put a small delay on E, then you have time to play against him before he silences you.

Why does everyone whine about LB and Talon and Kassadin losing their silence? It was not healthy for the game.

Why does everyone whine about LB and Talon and Kassadin losing their silence? It was not healthy for the game.

But everyone getting stuns/slows/knockbacks instead is so much healthier, right?

Xeruon3 votes

Yes, they actually are.

Nuparu8 votes

so having people kill you when you can still dodge/try and avoid stuff is bad but having people kill you 100-0 in the duration of crowd control isn't

what.

Xeruon3 votes

Most champions who have/had a silence, also have multiple ways of sticking to you, and 9/10, kill you.

Kassadin Has, or should I say, had, his ult, W, and E for immense burst and mobility. Leblanc Has a leash-based snare that's very difficult to avoid at close range, and her ult for an additional silence, snare, or dash Talon Can just instantly burst you down before you can react, the silence preventing you from flashing/dashing away Chogath Has a mass AoE knockup + slow, and a true damage execute. Garen Execute and spin. I don't think I need to say more. Malzahar His spell rotation also includes a 2.5 second supress, with ludicrous % health damage and sustained damage from voidlings + DoT

And as you can see, all of these champions were OP at some point, with the silence being toned down or straight up removed in most cases. Those who were allowed to keep the silence saw nerfs to other parts of their kits.

There is a reason that most champions nowadays don't have stealth or silences in their kits, you know. It's ten times easier to balance stuns/snares/knockups etc.

Nuparu6 votes

see, the issue here is that with stuns or silences both they still nuke the hell out of you and kill you

all the champs you listed are in fact balance issues but let's not forget the other champions who have other forms of CC that still causes problems with kit design...

Annie Flash+Tibbers, or, nowadays, Protobelt + Tibbers AoE stun, then instantly kills you.

Brand Any other skill + his Q = you're locked down to soak the W full damage and die a horrible death.

Ekko ...must I explain why he's been a balance issue since release?

Irelia see above statement

Malphite There's a reason why you can't ever effectively nerf him. See: AoE knockup and AS nuke.

Lulu The good old days of Q spam mid lane into a W if you ever tried to do anything to her, and an R if you somehow managed to catch her anyways.

Xeruon2 votes

Sorry to burst your bubble but the amount of champions that have silences are just a grain of sand compared to the amount of champions that have stuns/slows/snares etc. The ones you listed are not "broken" because of their CC, but because of how their kit innately works.

Additionally, the champions you listed actually have far more counterplay than most champs with silences, excluding one or two of them.

Nuparu7 votes

Have you ever considered that the silence wasn't the problem but rather the sheer amount of other things (namely: damage) that these kits had?

If assassins with hard CC (fizz/rengar (contrary to popular belief, he's fine right now)) can be balanced into something reasonable, why can't an assassin with a silence?

Xeruon2 votes

The only way to balance a silence would be to make it extremely siturational or make it extremely easy to prevent the assassin from doing his job to the extend that even assassinating a caught-out ADC becomes difficult, both of which are obviously contradictory to the assassin playstyle

Also, this is off-topic but, please know that I'm not trying to offend you, nor trying to say that your opinion is wrong, and just trying to argue a point.

Varus Vindicator5 votes

explain why a silence of the same duration is stronger than a stun.

NineTailedMystic2 votes

Silences disallow Summoner Spell usage (not that it matters too much since the most vital one is Flash which a stun would also block, but Heal/Barrier can be cast while stunned), except Cleanse I'd assume, and they virtually are stuns for a champion reliant on casting. Woo, I can move with my 325-330 base MS.

TheRatsInTheWall3 votes

So at worst, a stun and a silence are equivalently toxic CC?

NineTailedMystic2 votes

I wouldn't say they're toxic, it's just Silences are inherently stronger on Assassins especially since they frequently go against Mages. Silences on Melees such as Garen's or Cho'Gath's are much more fair. Although Cho's Silence could use a minor duration nerf.

Blackstone012 votes

Idk about you but I'd rather have that stun that prevents them from even moving away than an equal duration silence that may just let them run enough to safety.

NineTailedMystic2 votes

A Silence on an Assassin whose current objective is to delete you as quickly as possible isn't healthy when there's actually nothing the other champion can do. I guess an AD champ could auto but still lose the trade/die.

Nuparu4 votes

In the meantime, said assassins will never have burst that won't instantly kill without the silence because of the fact that their kit becomes painfully unreliable.

With a silence, it might have been possible to balance the kit around weaving some spells in, but without it, their entire job is to now max out damage and try and instantly kill you.

That's fucking ridiculous. For example, imagine LB if her damage got nerfed some instead of the silence, so she doesn't have the ability to QRW you to death late game. I think that'd be healthier so that there's counterplay anyways (dodge the chain, and you have a higher chance to live) versus getting point and clickerino'd to death.

NineTailedMystic2 votes

Assassins shouldn't be reliable. That's what Riot's current design paradigm is for them, no? The Assassin update is intending to make them more unreliable by giving their enemies reactive counterplay as well.

but without it, their entire job is to now max out damage and try and instantly kill you.

Is- Is that not what they're supposed to do? I don't see the point of lowering their damage for a Silence because if they fail the Assassination, the Silence isn't going to affect anything teamfight or not. The Silence was there so they could not fight back or defend themselves in any way while the Assassin was killing them. Now you can at least try Zhonya's or Heal or use a mobility spell.

Kuroi861 votes

The issue was the three champs mentioned was that it left no opportunity to retaliate. LB and Kass could silence you, drop their damage and dash out before the silence ended and once Talon had you low enough you were dead before the silence ended.

Nidalee SO NYAAA1 votes

Depends what champs you are about talking here. Talon and champs like him can kill adcs and mages in a blink of a eye. There was hardly any counter play when they had silences

ZT Xperimentor2 votes

At least it could be reduced by mercury treads; yasou's & fizz popup & isn't.

Sir Fuzzi7 votes

They aren't? Genuine question, I honestly thought they were.

So let me get this straight, does that make knockup the 'true damage' of CC, more or less?

ZT Xperimentor5 votes

Basically yeah; knock up effects have never been reduced by mercury treads. Which is weird considering they're supposed to be the go to for avoiding being stunlocked, but they're useless against that once specific crowd control.

CeexSett1 votes

Knockups are not as common as stuns for example, and are harder to hit. There are no point and click knockups (that I can remember, if there are please let me know)

Requiemsfire2 votes

Nautilus's ultimate depth charge is a point and click knock up.

In my opinion though when we talk about silences in general the ones removed have very little counterplay when used properly such as when being jumped on by a kassadin. Nowadays that Kassadin may still murder you but he won't do so in such a way that feels as unfair.

You see a silence might overall be less effective than a stun but there are not very many point and click stuns in the game at all, as the recent Taric rework removed the only non-conditional stun in the entire game. Yes some point and click stuns still do exist but they have their counterplay counter build. For example, you'll always know when annie has her stun available to use now due to obvious indicators whether she be on 3 stacks or 5 you can build a banshee's veil against her and your stun won't be nearly as effective against you since if she doesn't proc your shield first then her ability is wasted.

CeexSett1 votes

Oh that's true, even though it is delayed, it is a point and click knockup.

Blue Moon Wolf2 votes

I was thinking the same thing. If he really needs a slow, then his Q could give a slow instead of a magic shield. depending how bad he is right now he could even keep the shield so he can have a slow that shields him. that E screams " I could silence enemies".

Or give him back his silence in some fashion, replace the slow on his aoe with a silence since it's already conditional; make him an anti-assassin assassin, that'd be unique.

that'd be really nice in all honesty, when people told me his q used to silence i got really confused because his e looks like a silence more than a slow (i played smite before lol and his e looks like thanatos' 3)

ZT Xperimentor3 votes

I haven't played smite, but yeah originally his targeted spell (which is still short range compared to some assassins like ekko, yasou, & zed), was his silence. I don't mind assassins having crowd control, if they have significant limitations behind it, such as nocturne's fear.

Habitz3 votes

I thought the silence on his E would make sense. It's like everyones all SPELL SPELL SPELL and then Kassadins like SILENCE

Give him utility for the rework by letting his q apply a unique cc that stops enemies from talking and laughing for a few seconds, easy counter to lux, zed, ez, sona, nunu bot, the list goes on and on.

Ralanr2 votes

That'd be great.

Blue Moon Wolf2 votes

There are a lot of champs that could use new VO's, unfortunately all I've heard from Riot is that they are working on it so we might be seeing updated VO's at some point, but as of right now it seems the only way a champ can get a new VO right now is if they are getting a Relaunch like Ryze or Taric.

GULAG 4 U2 votes

or give him his silence back?

SunGold2 votes

Kassadin new lore - kassadin's mother took his silence ability away because he used on her XD

The Yetii Rider1 votes

Voice acting work isn't worth it for one line unfortunately. You'll need to wait for a VU

taleofsonata2 votes

He already GOT A VU!

Arsenic Sulfur1 votes

He needs a full VU to qualify for a new VO. A rather minor model update doesn't warrant entirely new lines. And before you bring the upcoming Ryze update, he is getting new mechanics and a new ult.

Great Fox1 votes

IMO Kassadin needs his Silence back. He hasn't been a strong pick since the removal of his silence. 2.5s is ridiculous, I agree, but removing it entirely was not needed.

In fact, removing parts of abilities entirely is how Riot's been literally screwing over Champions for a while now, most recently; Kindred - Removed her passive heal, and her win rate is now 46%.

SiG DxD1 votes

i tried to blink over a walk to escape once ...boy did i regret that.

Sire Hippington1 votes

Or just find a way to give him the silence back. Honestly, kassadin should get reworked into a scirmisher or dive instead of assasins with acces to his silence, it would be much more fitting and easier to balance. Balanceing him aorund blowing up squishys and haveing that mobillity is pretty comblicated, even if he finally would loose some of his point n click stuff that makes him a pure balance nightmare.

TNHA Baritone1 votes

You guys want Kassadin's joke to be fixed meanwhile Karma mains want splash arts that don't have fans or models that do have fans.

He tried to silence them when they wanted to nerf him.

As a result, he regretted attempting to silence them, and he may no longer do so.
