Season 7 has been the most stressful season of all

taleofsonata··129 votes·4,586 views

League is suppose to be enjoyable, yet this season is so stressful because its not a team game but more like every single individual on the team needs to be good at the game to be enjoyable.

I've cried so much during this season and raged, because of how impactful a champion pick is and itemization. It hurts soo much, Riot please get some help from other dev. You are making your game soo unhealthy.

I blame Ghostcrawler. He ruined WoW, and now he's ruining LoL. LoL's dev team worked really hard to reduce snowballing so both teams have a fighting chance and that mistakes are less punishing, but since GC joined, the direction of the team took a 180 turn and they're actually increasing snowballing for the sake of ''shorter games''

Suuuuurrrre.... a 25 minute stomp is so much more enjoyable than a 40 minute fair match that could go both ways, thanks GC rolls eyes

Seriously, i'd take a loss in an hour long fair game over a 20 minute win in a game that we stomped the enemy. Whoever takes an early lead is almost garanteed to win.

I am still waiting for people to realize that Ghostcrawler didn't ruin WoW, he was just an active member of Blizzard that was communicating with the players so when shit hit the fan, he was the one to take the blame. And no, WoW is very much alive. Every game, no matter how new or old it is, is going to go through a rough patch once in a while. Because game balance isn't a cookie-cutter thing that you can just do every time it needs balancing and ideologies are also different.

Furthermore, Riot has also said that they will be trying a different patching format (same two week cadence) for season 8 because s7 didn't go as smoothly as they would've liked.

Let me tell you that wow has been going downhill since Ghostcrawler left. And GC has been one of the few that dared to call out the massive, balance-warping class bias that wowdevs have, which is is the main reason why the game is going downhill.

I tribute a lot of early game stomps to the tendency of many players to give up when they die even once in lane.

i attribute players giving up after one death to the sheer magnitude of what it means to die just once in league.

Fairyfleur4 votes

It certainly does matter; I won't argue with that, but one death doesn't mean the game is over.

What? Games nowadays are longer than ever. Comebacks are pretty likely due to catchup XP. That's why Tanks are back in the meta and the game is played around the ADC.

BigPapaJSwaggins4 votes

Think OP is more talking about solo que. The only elo where comebacks regularly happen is low gold and below, and that is only because those elos don't know how to continue to apply pressure.

This could be me, and I'll probably get down-voted, but a chunk of season 7 for myself has simply been League of Champ Select.

Hèntaî 1 votes

As in people giving up in champ select over minor things or someone seeing kog/lulu and just wanting to int on the spot?

SunnyAfterMath1 votes

Mostly seeing that there will be a zero counter-play bottom lane which consists of more than just kog/lulu but of course that's a rough one. Jinx/Janna, Twitch/Any ardent support while many non ardent support mains get left in the dirt. I'm a jungle main, but I've been playing only Support and doing extremely well and I havent played support in ranked in any season when I didn't need to.

Warwick Main29 votes

I just feel like season 7 really didn't reward players for a good performance. If you shut down the enemy jungle they caught right back up in two camps exp wise. You get 3 kills off midlane, doesn't matter so long as the enemy support got item 3504. There just wasn't a very reliable way to consistently carry games 1v9, it always came down to a combination of team comp and who had the better botlane.

SweedishGunner6 votes

There's a lack of player agency, a single player has very little control over the game unless they're a fed ADC.

I do believe that's the point. If you're carrying a game against 4 trolls and the enemy team, then something's definitely out of balance.

GayFluffyUnicorn5 votes

^ That's the issue. Some champs get their powerspikes way earlier and harder than they used to and other champs even if they go 3/0 in lane need still more items to actually have an impact. Something i experience on GP recently. Go 4/0 against jax toplane? Doesn't matter i still have to grind out that trinity and ghostblade before being relevant and the rest of the team already lost by that time. Then i go for some Jayce game. Clap my enemy laner be three level and several CS ahead of him. Somehow he gets an assist on a 3 man gank against me and pooof all that lead is gone and he is back in the game. On one side riot introduced a lot of anti snowball mechanics like shutdown gold, catch up XP, more assist gold more gold/s etc. All while making the game more snowbally overall with rift herald and shit towers. i have the upper hand and TP advantage toplane? I can actually influence the map? Well i get punished for tping bot by losing first turret in one wave and rift herald while getting a kill and maybe clown drake. Yay. While it's the right decision and an actually skilled fought out lead over my enemy i get PUNISHED for it. Death timers early are laughably short. Enemies rarely lose any CS or XP for a death and way too punishing after 20 mins. Summoners Rift currently IMO is in such a weird position that being bad and losing is way too forgiving on one hand while games snowball out of control way too hard on the other. I have dozens of games won and lost with 7-1 or 0-7 kill leads in 20 mins. Which used to be nothing but right now this is enough to walk through the enemy with no "counterplay". And i really can't explain that since as i said you get punished a lot for being better than your enemy but also games snowball so hard by a small lead that you barely can't recover from that.

The only good things s7 brought were VGUs, skins and lores. The rest is complete garbage and emotes reassured me that this game is just going downhill, at least for me.

Maszii21 votes

Early 2k17 was fine. But the buffs on sleeper Ardent Cancer and ADC itemization just threw that all in the kitchen sink. Good thing i got my gold 5 back in april or so when the game was enjoyable to play.

I've found this season to be absolutely uncarriable. You can't carry no matter what you do. If the rest of your team is shit you will lose. Matches are pre-determined.

The worst state of the game I've ever experienced. It's not fun to be playing ranked right now.

DuskDaUmbreon2 votes

Oh no! A team-oriented game can't be carried by one person! The horror!

Just because it's a team game doesn't mean individual skill should be invalidated, and that is what is happening right now (unless you're an ADC abuser).

You're clearly cluess though, so keep it up, buddy!

DuskDaUmbreon3 votes

Individual skill does matter. But that's not what you were saying at all.

If the rest of your team is shit you will lose.

That's how it's always been, unless you're playing a champion busted out of the ass.

Variks the Loyal4 votes

Not true.

Remember the days when a top lane bruiser could win his lane, and apply pressure thoughout the map to extend their lead and help their teammates if they were losing? That's all because of the skill of one person, and it doesn't happen anymore.

It has been a team game always, not because everything required perfect team coordination, but because one person could help pick up his allies if they were faltering and help his team catch up to par. Now, that's not possible; top lane and jungle are currently dominated by Tanks who can peel and support the ADC, which is a fine strategy when it's an optional strategy with counters and ways to combat it that don't include using the same strategy. But it shouldn't be the only strategy.

ÂFRÏCÂN GØD1 votes

im sorry but variks is right, respectively, in his opinion and how it relates to others. I literally use to carry from top and mid now I carry from jungle and adc... I would LOVE to play top and mid but if I'm not playing a roaming mid I'm screwed. My best bet so far has been adc'ing and pulling my team together because guess what... The game is so focused on Jungle objectives and towers... Now lets discuss towers, what role is guaranteed to have siege power? adc. which role is guaranteed to do damage? adc. Yes again, a good roaming mid can apply map pressure, a good top with global access can apply pressure BUT its almost like the only thing top can do is not lose first tower, get herald, or tp gank bot and hopefully get a dragon out of it. The island is literally like exile now. Mid is again, if you can roam you can carry. BUT there is a real emphasis on jungle and adc currently. I like when Variks brought up optional strategy... That is another point. The game should never be at a state where guaranteed wins are based off of items bought (ardent) or champs played. There is a real issue with balance and I do not like a game where I'm forced to pick meta or I'm punished severely when I don't. This is how you know, that the game caters to e-sports. Old league of legends was pick a champ, be good, dont feed and you'll be successful. League now? Is pick this champ and these items or you lose. Camp this lane or you lose. Get first tower, inf dragon, herald, or you lose. Granted these are not circumstances that are unwinnable but there was a time when comebacks were more prevalent and that shows that there is no real diversity in meta versus off-meta... If you pick meta? your margin of winning is higher than a team comp that doesn't have the strongest champs in the patch. The game is not the same, and thats not a good or bad thing.... The game is not the same because it's losing it's identity and it's core values. This game is becoming just that ..... a game... When before you actually put your heart and soul into it. Now? Pick tristana and janna and galio and you'll probably win. I should literally be able to jump on league and play any champ and have a high margin of success. This is no longer the case. And the games ARE harder to carry. We will not correlate KDA with carrying BUT if I go 20-4-16 and the rest of my team is 3/11/9, 13-6-7, 8-11-16, etc... I did my part... I carried in team fights, I carried my lane but if I am holding myself to a higher standard minus the ego, I can potentially carry the entire game.. It IS my team that will hold back by either getting caught out, not focusing objectives, or constantly not grouping. There are signs when a game is lost. There are windows of opportunity and if you don't take those windows, you are punished too heavily by death timers. This game has zero remorse.

Thank god i'm not the only one. Like my highest i've gotten was d2 promo in a huge win streak. Fought d2s and d1s and won against them hard or lost then dropped in one session of 10 games losing in a night to d4 and been stuck there since ever. People be like "just play better" and i have a lot of games with 80% KP as toplane gp losing the game 2/0 or 2/1 and the rest just gets stomped away and i be like "how to carry this?" Then i watch challenger smurfing in dia being unable to carry 6 games in a row when they always tell you "challenger and diamond is like bronze and diamond". Soooo why do they win so hard in lane and macro and still lose the game? Why do i go 10/0 in some gold 5 game on my smurf duoing with friends and LOSING the game despite me taking every tower possible, roaming, drakes, baron, shotcalling, taking out carries but i just lose and don't know what to do. Something changed this season and i don't know what. I lose games i should win, i win games i should lose. Half the games i have ZERO impact on anything and it is pre determined who wins and who loses and a lot of people from low to high elo experience the same. Ex challenger who are hardstuck high dia despite them playing so good in a lot of games but they can't seem to win.

I have to agree, I've never really bitched about a season in the past because for the most part, I was never particularly bothered by most things Riot did. Hell even last season during the Dynamic Q shitshow, I still very much enjoyed this game. But this season, it's like they just sat in a room and thought up stuff intended to piss off or upset large portions of the player base at a time.

For me personally, that was a Liss rework(one that I was really excited for too) that fell through the cracks, LB's general brokeness, the complete destroying of why I liked Karma, top lane's general uselessness and caster AD Varus' effective gutting.

Honestly, this season has literally been the worst for me, to the point that I don't even play regular SR games anymore. I only really log on for RGM's on the weekend. I'm really hoping S8 is going to be different.

As a toplaner, this season was the worst for me in terms of fun.

And i have been playing since before season 1 existed.

Edit: Actually nevermind i hated dynamic queue so much that i stopped playing for 6 months because of it.

It’s a video game, get over it. Actual stress is when you have three tests and two projects due on Thursday while having a football game on Monday(that lasts till 11PM, Tuesday rehearsal (for band) till 8PM, then PSAT/SAT on Wednesday. Oh, and the tests are on 3 AP classes. AP Physics, AP Calc, and APUSH
