As an aDC how do you deal with an enemy team comp with a lot of dive and assassins

I have trouble dealing damage as an ADC when the other team has many dives and assassins. I end up with a good score because I wait for them to use everything and i go in for the clean up. However, at the end of the game I deal very little damage to the enemy champions. How do i still be in range to auto them without being in danger
