Mordekaiser, the forsaken one

It's been two entire months since Riot reworked Mordekaiser and we haven't gotten any official stance on what they think of him, no reassuring words to his former mains, no insight in potential tweaks to him. He's been neglected. His perma ban status just goes to show how much more work has to be done in order for him to finally be in a healthy spot, which was the goal of his rework all along. To make him more unique To find him a niche on the rift To make him healthier

He doesn't even feel as fun and unique as he was before. He isn't really tanky due to a crappy tin man passive and abysmal base health (1750) His iconic abilities are only a shadow of their former self He is even less healthy than he was before He was forced into a lane without even allowing him to be played elsewhere His entire dominance relies on a gimp

So my question is; What the hell awaits Mordekaiser? Is he damned to being the epitome of a rework gone wrong? Is he going to be nerfed into oblivion and left to die? Is he even going to get the promised "Post-release-support?"

Tune in next week once we may or may not be able to answer all these questions.

Ahh, MaliciousMetal still in the trenches, fighting the good fight. While other morde mains lost hope, he goes for distance being lead by his faith in Riot's good will.

My main was Rek'Sai, I could complain all day about it. But I don't think about this game every waking moment, so you either adapt or pick a new champ.

Last time I checked they didn't rework Rek'Sai into a whole new role pigeon wholed into a duo lane with an extremely unhealthy mechanic.

I'm no Rek'Sai main, but Riot has balanced her like idiots. Nowhere close to Morde-tier, but...

Basically, they've dumped so much of her power budget into a mechanic that is extremely powerful in comptetive but not actually that fun to use (aka Tremor Sense) and nerfed the crap out of her damage and other utility.

They have been working on Elise-ing her. However, as someone who mained Elise before that and who was as close to maining Mordekaiser as you can get without actually maining, the Morde stuff is way worse.

Okay so I can agree some of his complaints are fair, but some are really stupid.

"I don't like the rework thus it is bad" feels like it has really become the main focus in a LOT of these threads.

However, he does provide excellent points, such as how stupid it is that he can't cast w properly in solo lanes.

But simply saying "the entire rework is bad" does nothing for the conversation and just flat out isn't true.

Except it is. None of the gameplay problems Morde had were solved, and his newfound power comes from his passive exp gain, something that (for once) actually is "no counter-play antifun".

I guess riot doesn't understand how many people who main Morde have the word metal in their name. I suspect someone will soon post a petition to change morde's title back to the master of metal like they did with Fiora and all will be well (I hope .__.)

Not really.

Even if her fanbase hated it, Cassiopea's rework achieved its intended goal (pull back on her DoT poke pattern).

Meanwhile, Mordekaiser's doesn't seem to have achieved its own goals.

Last time i checked the rework was SUPPOSED to bring out her identity as the main dot mage in the game.

It wasnt supposed to turn her into e spam bot.

Neither of the reworks achieved their goals and neither of the reworks were well received.

good job, it's nice to see that the posts calling out Riot on the rework are still showing up . If people don't call them out on it first people will ignore it, then it will become accepted, and then it will be normal. Don't let that happen +1.

The reason why post like this exist is the reason that I stopped playing league until Riot fixes the mistakes they made. If that does not happen soon, they will be over passed by a different Moba in my opinion. (I really wish I did not have to type this)

I remember when I first bought Mordekaiser at the end of season 3. I tried him out as a top laner and used to play him in ranked until I found other picks I was more comfortable with (shen, maokai, nasus) and I even brought him jungle when there was a complication in who was going where that caused me to go jungle morde (and we won to). Seeing what Riot decided to do with him has made me grow away from league altogether because I am done with Riot taking champions that had many different build paths and making them into abominations by having people (like CertainlyT) go ahead and rework a champion he never mained. I will admit that I am not mad at CertainlyT more so than I am mad at Riot for letting the experimental change go through.

I'm more upset for the people that wanted to keep playing their main, but have to witness Riot butcher them to the point that the champion that they used to main has been essentially deleted from the game and replaced with a version of them that feels nothing like their original form or purpose.

They already changed his title from "The Master of Metal" to "The Lord of Death" - as fucking bland as this whole rework.

I'm not giving up hope yet. I mean with world's going on, the harrowing (if you can call this zombie slayer crap the harrowing) and how badly they screwed up with Morde, they may be trying to plan their next move really carefully so they don't piss people off more. I don't know what the balance team looks at (since they outright said they don't care about the bans, picks and win/loss ratios), but even they should be able to tell morde is way too bipolar to be considered a healthy champ. I say wait till the full notes for patch 5.22 on the PBE before throwing in the towel.

yea, I saw that. I think it's stupid as hell, but with the direction they are dragging morde into, I'm not surprised they pulled something like that. why they are trying to pretty much call him Mordekaiser the Mordekaiser now is beyond me. I still hold on to the hope that they might see reason and at least try out some of the stuff Malicious Metal has recommended on the PBE to see what can be done about making him Viable mid (or at least top if nothing else) and not be OP bot.

Welcome to the club. Cassiopeia This is what Riot's reworks generally do and they couldn't care less about the long term consequences. It's absolutely disgusting how little regard they show for minority mains. In the end they only make matters worse, that's a fact proven by time again and again.

In general, reworks tend to be very successful.

It is true that some of them had been extremely painful to the fanbase of the champions they are inflicted upon, but claiming that the reworks are bad in general is just inaccurate.

Champion reworks like Cassiopeia's are the worst possible outcome, she's literally worse than ever before. No one wants to play her anymore (lower pickrate than BEFORE the rework), her performance is godawful (terrible stats across all elos) and Riot couldn't care less about her. It's been 6 months since the gutting and they haven't even considered buffing her after all this time. That kind of neglection is almost criminal - and trust me, Mordekaiser is going to be next on that list.

Malicious, still fighting our battle?

Anyways, going from where the rework is, without having to remove things entirely - we know how effective our suggestions are to Riot when we demand things be removed - what would you like to see changed about the current rework? Cause the way I see things, we can either propose a few changes to his current kit, or wait a few years and hope Riot will get around to him.

As for me?

I've been spending the last few weeks, read it... weeks, working on a way to shift Mordekaiser's power budget around to give him solo-lane power while letting him duo-lane if he wants, and to cut back on the gimmicky bits. I've lost sleep and worked countless hours of my free time trying to make a thought-out revamp of the rework that doens't remove anything sans the experience buff - because that is toxic on absurd levels and it would either be useless or overpowered in any form - but instead give him things without making him broken.

I'm starting to go crazy doing this.
