Non-Meta Supports

So I've recently had a talk with a singular Plat player who told me all of my favorite supports (Nidalee, Kayle, Anivia, Ornn) aren't viable into Plat or Diamond. Here's my question - from Bronze to Diamond, are the four aformentioned champions viable in the role?

I GIVE NO FUCKS IF BRAND IS BETTER AT POKING THAN NIDALEE

The obv answer will be "noob rank u can play, everything"

But honestly from bronze to challenger i always preferv normal supp to offmeta ones.

Except anivia, what s the purposecof those champs as supp?

Kayle - u can't take damage and push really hard Ornn - zone control peel Nid - attack speed buff and vision control

Nid gonna win the vision game vs every support except maybe if you play ashe or swain support.

Kayle is like a ranged taric. She's very good into melee supports provided they keep their distance.

Ornn can just pillar on his carries and threaten a cc lock.

Well orn aside, which need lot of skill and effort. Kayle..having a pusher support that leave u zoned until 6 then u can all in with a doran against a bf adc.

Nid.. well her heal cost a lot. Spears are useless, traps..meh.. but ok

???

Have you ever played a melee support against Kayle? She'll match your push at level 1 and then push harder for level 2. After that you're stuck helping your ADC under tower without taking too much poke. If your jungler doesn't gank, then you're going to be stuck there the rest of the lane phase.

And Kayle support doesn't all-in at level 6. Kayle pokes until you have no choice but to all-in or b. If you all-in then she ults her carry, and unless you're taric you're going to lose.

Now op, tell me if I got this right.

So suddenly we go looking for counters. Try bard or nauty or thresh vs kayle

I've played all of them at support and they all do well. Ornn's broken without his unstoppable buff, but before that he was a great support.

I think ornn actually is/was played as a support legitimately at a high level, although some of his recent nerfs may have changed that.

The others strike me as inferior to alternatives.

That said, I am of the opinion that everything is viable everywhere up to low diamond, provided you truly master the champ, since you can just outskill people to make up for any meta disadvantage you might have. It's only once people are starting to reach the skill cap of their respective champs that the underlying champion tunings and overall meta tends to take over.

Dude, I love me some Anivia support. Besides her mana costs, I don't think there is anything stopping her from being a strong support.

Insane damage, loads of CC (if you are good with her wall), and if the ADC is bad you can easily just take all the farm. ;) JK...ish...

Kayle, the bird, and Ornn will work in some matchups. Nid will never work, your adc will tilt and make it impossible for you to win.

Said champions become less and less viable as you climb higher. This is true unless you always go 10-0 in the first 5 minutes of every game you ever play and win them all single-handed.

Anivia has only 1 real form of CC, she's mana hungry, and very gold dependent. Yes, her wall is somewhat a CC, but it's not an actual impairment. You're just a stun bot at this point. If you're playing Anivia as a support because you cannot build your mana items. If you do build your mana items you're no longer a support because you're cutting out your support items. If you're building both mana and supp items you'll be behind because of poor itemization and usage of gold.

Nidalee is no longer an ideal support like she was before the introduction of support items and Nidalee's rework. You might as well play her in the jungle because that's the only way to keep her viable throughout the game. You're basically giving your team a -1 for doing so.

Kayle while still a decent support she lacks heavy CC. Shouldn't really play her as a support unless you're just one tricking.

Ornn functions better as a top laner or even jungler in some cases. While he can be played as a support he lacks a lot of defensive capabilities.

Hey there - high plat / low diamond support main here:

1.) Nidalee is only viable up to high gold, in my opinion. She is outclassed by many other supports and if you can't build many good items on her, she tends to become a liability into late game, with her spears not doing enough damage to matter unless you get fed. (In high plat games, you will NOT get fed as nid support, players are good enough to not let you damage them with spears or all in.) For what its worth, back in the day, she was much more viable as an AP poke support, but not anymore. Alternative Picks: Try Xerath, Velkoz, Brand, Zyra.

2.) Kayle is in the same boat. The ultimate is 'cute' and all that, but your doing a disservice to the rest of her kit if you cant buy big-boy items early and hit hard. You will get out-scaled in the support role, and again - turn into a liability unless you get fed. If Kayle has a place bot lane, she's better in the marksman position, soaking up CS. If she's fed, she has incredible carry potential. If you don't have items, almost every 'meta' support champion does her job but better. Alternative Picks: Try Zilean, Lulu, Taric

3.) Anivia I actually think Anivia support is pretty viable up through diamond. She has everything you need to be successful as a support champion. She scales well, has a terrifying lane presence, and some pretty good CC. That being said, she's one of the hardest champions in the game to learn, play, and master. Out of every champion you picked, this is the one where I think you'd gain the most success. Current meta does not favor her though, shield supports and healing is where its at right now, and the higher you climb, the more you will see that. You also need an adc that can farm from a distance and avoid all-ins. Worth noting her mana issues too, but Tear is in a fantastic fucking spot right now. Alternative Picks: Try Zyra, Brand, Zilean

4.) Ornn Release Ornn and maybe a few patches in, he could be pretty viable in the support role, but after his nerfs, He's going to stop being healthy right about low platinum. Ornn has a lot of tricks, but good, smart players are going to know what your doing, and get away from you every time. Furthermore, he is extremely easy to counter pick. Any champion who can poke his ally from a distance just kinda stops any plan he has. If your ADC can't farm reliably, its not going to be a fun time. Alternative Picks: Try Blitzcrank, Alistar, Braum

JarvanIV

Armor shred Shield + Slow so he can pick up a redemption. Attack speed buff with Flag. Poke with Q. And he has his E-Q and Ulti for CC and lockdown.

Play with Vayne for a bit of fun ;)

Get font of Life and you can proc it on 5 People with W alone.

Id reccoment still getting a item 3071 just because, but beyond that, he works well with nearly every support item in the game.
