Karthus has already been reworked a few months ago.

I've always felt that Ryze's down-side was that he is a close range guy. He pretty much has to get into range of anyone except a melee in order to nuke someone down. Ofc, in team fights that usually means he gets it next.

Given what the reds were saying about him being a scrappy close-range type of guy, I have a feeling we're going to see a skill-shot gap closer, a la Lee Sin. With Ryze's power, I'm not at all sure that would be healthy for the game unless he has some serious counterbalancing weaknesses.

Ryze Ryze is my favorite champ. My brother and I often sit around and just discuss our favorites, and what we would like to see. He likes to goad me about how I'm stuck on a "simple" and "basic" champ, but whatever. I'm attracted to his lore and his play-style. I'm excited about what's in store for him, as long as Riot keeps their promise to maintain what makes him special.

Anyway, my bro and I were tossing ideas around and here's what we ended up with. No numbers or stats, just a whimsical concept.

Ryze's passive (Arcane Mastery) gets completely redefined. Instead of it reducing the cooldown it allows him to add a mastery point to one of his abilities every level (say on 6, 11, and 18, or something). By doing so, he will supercharge an ability of his choosing, but his mastery will come with consequences. (or maybe this passive can be tied to leveling his ulti).

  • Overload: Mastering this spell will supercharge its scaling with mana, giving him a bigger burst, but the cost is that it will "burn" some of his HP to cast it. This plays off of the name of the spell "overloading" him every time he casts it. So, standard Q is less bursty (he is a sustained damage champ after all), but he has the option to become bursty, but risks opening himself up to being damaged himself (by actively hurting himself, limiting the returns on his spellvamp etc.).

  • Rune Prison: Mastering this spell will turn it into an AoE damage and root. However, if he roots more than X number of enemies, he becomes silenced for the duration of the root, unable to cast any other spells. I imagine that the more enemies he traps with Rune Prison, the more concentration it will take for him to maintain his root,.

  • Spell Flux: Mastering this spell will increase the number of bounces (say from 5 to 8 bounces or something). The drawback is that if he casts it on less than X foes, he gets a percentage of damage every time it bounces back at him. So, he has to be more careful when he casts this one.

Desperate power: This isn't affected by his passive, but it is re-worked to give him a flat speed boost, and cdr with each point put into it (along with the usual spell vamp and aoe). I just think that Ryze is far too slow (false advertising if you ask me, in the cinematics he's sprinting all over the place!), and either his base speed needs to be upped, or something.

Well, that's what I think would make an awesome Ryze: A man who pushes the limits of what is attainable, a man who is on the run, and in your face, and willing to pay whatever cost to become a master of magic. I admit the concept has all kinds of balance issues, but hey, I'm only day dreaming here.

Looking forward to what Riot has in store for Ryze's fans (and haters too :P)
