How do I play Varus?

Played a few games as Varus and I feel powerless throughout all stages of the game. How does one play Varus? As far as I can tell:

  • His poke is too high of a cooldown to be called a strength
  • He has absolutely no safety except for his ultimate which is on too high of a cooldown to be reliable
  • Everyone outdamages me
  • If something touches me I just die instantly
  • Apparently he's "on hit" and not "crit" which does no damage anyway

It just feels like I can't outdo anyone on anything except having no health. When I lose lane it feels like I'm being mechanically outclassed and when I win lane I can't hold any kind of lead since I can still just die to anything that touches me.

He's hot garbage right now. Loses against pretty much every match up i'd skip playing him if you are looking to win with him.

He only feels good when he is ahead. From behind despite having utility he is useless, but if you want to play him right now the best way is to play like a pussy and wait until your team hands you kills. Don't do anything unless you have items.
