Normals matchmaking needs some serious work

The system is putting silvers, golds, plats, diamonds and master in the same game. This is the bottom 10% of ladder playing in the same game as the top 0.5%. Along with average and above average players in the mix, why not...

I really think your normals MMR needs to be based in part off of your solo/due rank. Since they are separate, some very high ranked accounts seem to have low normals MMR from never playing it. Sc2 did this. after you played your first 20 ranked games in a row, it seeded your unranked MMR based on that (if you played no unranked) so you didn't have to go through the new account -> stable MMR process twice. That way, if you played ranked only until masters you would then play unranked against at least diamond players.

No matter if you are playing a different role or taking it less seriously, a masters player laning against a gold 4 Nasus item 3301 item 2031 along with silver players on both sides is a joke

This had nothing to do with mmr though or the system itself being bad. The Master Rengo was premade with the Gold 5 Mundo and the Gold 4 Jhin. That's why it made sense for the system to have the matchmaking as you had it in your game.

Definitly not perfect but the only way to get around this problem would be to not allow it to have people with too much difference in elo queueing up with each other. And I really don't see why that should be a thing in Normal Games. After all they are supposed to be a less serious version of Rankeds where you can have fun with your buddies and just enjoy the game. If you only can have people with the same elo queue up no one could help friends to improve for example.

If they are master + gold + gold how exactly does that make sense to put 2 silver players in the game as well? I could see master/gold/gold/plat/plat vs 1 gold/4 plat or something, but adding silver players in there just is ridiculous

yes/no/maybe

The yes

obviously there is an issue if a master tier player winds up against a team with a bronze player

the no

Said master tier player might exclusively troll in norms, such as playing AP rengar, or ad fiddlesticks, meanwhile, one of those silver players may have placed a long time ago, and then may have played more or less exclusively norms, getting placed silver at the beginning of the season again just because that's where they started way back when, but still consistently plays on a much higher level

It really does have serious problems sometimes. A couple days ago I thought I'd try to learn some Diana in normals. So my teammates are Gold 4, Gold 4, Bronze 3, and unranked. Their team is: Gold 2, Gold 5, Silver 2, Silver 4, and a DIAMOND 4 toplane.

How is this even remotely fair? The enemy top laner was 2 full tiers above our best player. Of course we got demolished.

EDIT: In case anyone's curious, it's my one Diana game recently: https://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/2659883633/37480176?tab=overview

Same Recently went bot with an unranked (I'm gold 5) against a plat and a diamond.

I take it as a sign of shrinking player bases, if there's not enough to go around then it'll start scooping up what's left. Riot used to be pretty vocal about how large their player base was, haven't said a word for a couple years now; just a thought about correlation.
