What to do about ARAMS

ManBearPig916··2 votes·726 views

I own all but 17 champions in the game. I am statistically likely to roll a useless champion in ARAMS. When I play, I see WAY too many OP champs for ARAM. Do I stop playing ARAMs? Do I make a 2nd "ARAM ONLY" account where I stack my favorite ARAM champs?

Do YOU unlock all of the champs for EVERYONE in ARAM?

I'm so mad. Go look at the ARAM match history. I'm wasting an ENTIRE DAY OFF on this game mode, because I want to !@#$ play it, but my experience has been God-awful.

I really wish you would unlock all the champs for this game mode. The mode would then be fair and not nearly as frustrating as it is now for such a bought-out account such as my own. It would be good advertising for champion sales, too, besides free rotation, which already does that.

You willingly q up for a RANDOM game mode that explicitly says its RANDOM, then complain about getting champs you dont want to play.

Now whos fault is that?

Now, when an old player who owns 100+ Champs (I don't own 17 champs in total) goes up vs players who own, I don't know, 40 champs? Who do you think is more likely to play a champ they are proficient with?

Also, there are ARAM only accounts. I'm thinking of making a new email and making a new account where I'd add lux, ziggs, Xin (I main the hell out of him), miss fortune, and more. Think about it! If I own like 8 champs for ARAM, I have the free rotation + my 8. There's like a 40% chance I get someone I like for ARAM, not to mention I can reroll and gamble if I don't.

It was your choice to buy those champs. Ive been playing since S1 and I only own 64 champs. IF YOU DONT LIKE PLAYING SOMEONE, DONT BUY THEM. I dont see why its that hard.

A few champs I got for free like Alistar Elise but that hardly adds up to 100.

When I'm sitting on 60,000 IP, I think about what I could spend it on, so I go to the store and say "I'll buy him, him, her..."

The 17 I don't own I have little interest in.

I have 180K IP. If you know ARAMs exist, why would you buy a champion you dont like that you might get in ARAM?

That's one of the more annoying things about ARAM; accounts with a deliberately limited roster of champions that are very strong on Howling Abyss. Please don't join them.

I don't see an inherently disadvantaged comp from any of your games in the last week. I guess maybe the Vayne game if anything? I will recommend, though, that when in doubt, go tanky. Like, ditch the full-AD Yorick, the gunblade on Zac, and full AP Eve. IMO, all three are much more valuable to a team as super annoying tanks.

But yeah. I admit I don't own like, all the champions. But I've been far from building an account of strictly OP things on ARAM. My belief is still that a vast majority of the pool is good or better in ARAM. It's just that there's a small crop that's just super good.

All that said, I have always been heavily in favor of unlocking the full roster for ARAM. Especially if they ever decide to do a ranked mode for it.

Just play the game and have fun... Stop trying to play competitive ARAM and enjoy yourself.

I have all champions unlocked. I'll reroll every now and then, but for the most part I'm fine with any champ.

It isn't easy to have fun when you win 1 of the last 9 games in ARAM. It's a combination of team comps and skill of teammates. In order to win in ARAMs, you need extreme skill to overcome a team that has OP picks, and you also need basic skills when your teammates have great champs. I've been on teams lacking one or the other for the past 2 days, and it has been no fun at all.

Seriously, unlock 100% of the champ pool so that ARAM's are FAIR!

I kinda like the struggle of trying to make non-optimal ARAM champs work. (Incidentally Nemesis draft was my favorite game mode.) I can't think of many 'useless' aram champs (particularly now that snowball is a thing), it's just sometimes trickier to put the potential of some champs into practice with 4 strangers, particularly when some team comps can be pretty tragic when it comes to synergy. I don't doubt some champs are pretty much useless with 100+ potential duds, but it's not 'that' bad.

All champs being unlocked for the mode would be nice, and has been a common suggestion for ages. I really have no idea why they haven't done this.

ARAM only account are a thing that can be frustrating to play against, but I feel like they do end up in an ARAM ELO where they're mostly facing off against similar ARAM only accounts and it gets kinda stale.

Not to mention, there really is nothing to be gained from winning a lot in ARAM compared to SR. Frustrating matches happen in every game mode, and while all champs being a thing might remove one source of frustration, it'd probably introduce a fresh style of frustration as people are more likely to find themselves on champs they've literally never played before. It's perhaps better to keep bashing your head against the mode (and slowly learning ARAM strats for different champions [many SR optimal builds are not optimal in ARAM!]) until you find yourself with an ARAM mmr such that you aren't facing ARAM only accounts (or they're poor enough players that it won't matter), and you are able to find yourself winning ~50% of the time.

Try being an engage tank/fighter main where 60% of your champion pool is AD melee.

I think a randomized minimum pool should be used of at least 25 champs (unless you have more) instead of the 11 if you only have one other champ apart from the 10 free. It would be really easy to implement so I don't know why they haven't done it yet. The 100+ or whatever champs is ridiculous. I own 60+ and still get garbage I don't want to play or know how to play from the free pool of 10.

more losses

ManBearPig9161 votes

I lost 12 of 13 games, and I just am not rolling champions I'm proficient at. That's the problem with ARAM's on accounts like mine. I'm very upset with my experience today.

ManBearPig9161 votes

Nobody puts ME on tilt and makes me log off for another day. I played THROUGH that losing streak, BABY! I won my 2nd in 14 games! Yes! That still doesn't justify the RNG that lead to 12 losses in 14, but I'll take that win!

Riot, read this and unlock all champs for ARAMS so that at least it's a level playing field for all. RNG currently favors the discreet buyers of champs. I bought most of your champs because I just want to own them, putting me at a DISADVANTAGE for buying your champs and queueing for ARAM

Another pointer, looking over your games from last night (didn't notice this yesterday): Flash/Mark are your friends. Learn to use these more, especially on champs with strong engage potential (Garen, Vi, Braum, Kennen, Ali, Nid all as examples from last night). Heal/Barrier is a very selfish set of summoner's, and while it might help you pad your own score a bit, it often isn't really what the team needs.

Often times, you'll have a big advantage in a fight if your team is the one to initiate the fight. You can force the other team to start off on their back foot, and allow your team to put together combos closer to their maximum potential. it'll also often force the other team to react when they're not really in position to use all their stuff optimally. Snowball is one of the best ways to pull a strong engage off. If you wait for them to engage on you, you're letting them have an advantage.

Now, I wouldn't recommend snowball on some champs. Most ADCs don't need it. They would be better served by exhaust, ignite, or clarity to accompany their flash. Some long range mages can pass on it as well, like Ziggs or Lux. And also supports that don't have an instant hard CC, such as Nami, Janna, or Soraka can go without snowball.

Just a follow up.

That's just how LoL luck goes.

I lose 12 of 14, and then I follow up winning 7 of 8.

ManBearPig9161 votes

So if you lose 12 of 14 ARAMS, get ready to go on a ranked Binge. I'm now on my way to silver 5, and betweenk ARAMS and Ranked, I won like 13 of the past 16 games since my 12 of 14 loss streak.

So I cant really prove what my MMR is other than a picture of some of my Que times http://postimg.org/image/b2imzz22j/ But Id say I'm (conservatively) in the top 100 Rated ARAM players. Currently I have all but 9 champions. All I can really say about ARAM is that YES it is unfair and the only way to win at a certain point is being smarter with your rolls in champ select and improving mechanically as a player. Also to another extent, having 20 rune pages to optimally support more champions. Assuming you don't have an aram account, you need to start taking EVERY SINGLE edge you can get in a game. you CAN have GREATER than a 50% win rate even if you own many champions. (I do) Honestly ARAM should be played for improving at the game and getting good at many champions not just winning by default because you rolled X (insert poke champion here)
