Has the Aurelion Sol hype died already?

Am I the only one who feels like all of the hype for Aurelion Sol has died out much more quickly than other recent champion releases? It seemed to me like Jhin, Kindred, Bard, Tahm Kench, .. blah blah, and even the recent champion reworks have all had countless YouTube gameplay videos on the PBE of practically every role and item combination imaginable up to release. All of the ones I have seen so far have been full AP laning or jungling. I saw one video that was sort of tanky, but it was not very impressive. I'm not sure if they simply had a poor build or played him poorly, OR, is it simply not viable? I think I may have seen an AD build which I don't really want to count because pretty much everyone can do well with stacked Infinity Edges. Even the AP builds have all had very consistent items built.

Lucian release was worse. But yes his hype was lost very fast, so much buildup for a champion that straight-up crushed a star in his teaser video, and ended up having the most boring ult.

I'm still gonna play him and love him, it's just not that big of a deal.

I wasn't around that far back sadly. I think his Ult looks very powerful though. The strongest aspect of it is very subtle, ... actually it is the instantaneous burst and peel that it gives him that makes it so strong. Most other abilities would have a telegraphed warning to give enemies a chance to dodge it.

Yes but it's boring, it doesn't look fun. I agree that it looks strong though.

I think they felt that his Q + E combo is 'cool-looking' enough.

I hope the hype dies so I can play him more than 1/10 games...

everyone is just anticipating that broken monstrosity of a champ destroying the game for a few weeks

the other champs didn't seem so glaringly overloaded, but good lord does this champ feel like he's got a swiss army knife to go along with his laser guided rocket launcher.

The reason his hype is kinda weak is that people having been prepping for aurelion sol (formerly Ao Shin) to come out for years now. While he is really cool nothing can live up the that long of a hype train in the end

I can understand that, but I feel like people aren't even exploring his kit as much as they have with other champions.

while his kit seems unique it is fairly straightforward. Rylais is pretty much a must do to how much that helps with landing the passive, and due to his range limitations he needs to be build tankish, esp since he needs to survive someone jumping on him long enough to move back inot passive range. His requirements to succeed is to have damage and to be non-burstable. The items that fit this are fairly limited and have a ton of synergy with each other so it would be silly to mix and match them too much.

I'm still pretty hyped for him. I've been waiting a long time for a more traditional mage of sorts. Last mage I can think of that came out was azir, and I don't find his play style enjoyable.

I'm not sure about him being a straight forward mage. It really seems to me like he has a very passive positioning feel to me. Having to rely on his passive stars to deal a great portion of his damage is cool, but it seems like it could easily be awkward. The rest of his kit looks like it is built for roaming/ganking and his ult is an huge burst/peel. If you mean that he is a mage in the sense that he does magic damage, sure, but I don't feel like he is really that much of a 'caster'. I am just going off of what I have seen so far, and that is a big part of what my complaint is. I don't think I have seen any videos where someone has gone for 45% CDR either. I am also still very hyped about him coming out. I have the IP sitting in my client, ready to pick him up ASAP.

You don't need to go 45% CDR or need to cast spells all the time to play similar to a mage. He's more like heimer or anivia in a sense. Great wave clear / zone potential. Heimer has wonky mechanics while anivia clearly plays like a mage but doesn't really use CDR too terribly much.

What else would you call him? He's not an assassin. He does all of his damage through his abilities, has relatively low safety once enemies are on him, and builds traditional mage items.

His ult is the equivalent of a Q attack...like it has no flash or awh

Idk, it has a good range, which knocks all enemies in the near half back to his 'outer-ring', 200 base magic damage, 70% AP and a 60% slow at first rank. The fact that it is close to, if not instantaneous makes it a practically unavoidable ability. I would call that Ultimate material. .. It could be more flashy or interesting, but I say it's good.

I am personnaly super hyped about his released but kind of not really thinking of it because I am way more worried about the Zyra update [zombie-brand-facepalm]

Of course not, he has a very toxic and OP kit, will enjoy abusing him.

I just don't care. His lore seems cool enough, his teaser was epic. But season 6 with Dynamic Qancer has just felt so incredlby lackluster my general gaming mode when playing LoL = Meh. If I win I meh, if I lose I meh. Game doesn't feel exciting anymore, it more often than not feels like matches are won in champion select so playing them out is just a waste of time. I don't think Sols release will change that.

Soloooo Q, where are you?!!!
