even after the buffs to other stones. why wouldn't you get thunderlords?

why? deathfire touch. 25% AP ratio. how much you'd have to have AP in order to get more than the 180 + 10% Ap from thunderlords? can someone smarter than me find the minimum AP required to do this. not to mention DFT is a DoT unlike the thunderlords which is just free damage. I mean if you have. 1000 AP (which unless your veigar you prob won't get anywhere near 1k ap). thats 250 Dot on the deathfire touch. or. its 280 from thunderlords. does riot have any logic at all? even more so on the physical side because if your an AD champ you want IMMEDIATE damage? am i missing something here. why does thunderlords have this much base damage while DFT doesn't. not to mention dft decreases damage for AOE or Dot damage. while thunderlords doesn't. i mean need I say more?. you need unrealistic amounts of AP to make DFT worth it on most champs. and early game or at any point of the game. its still better to use thunderlords. sure. dft has no cooldown. but who gives a shit. early game almost no damage. mid game. still almost no damage. late game. meh damage. i mean its so easy to mitigate DoTs late game or at any time outside the laning phase.

at what point of the game will deathfire be good.? maybe for some AD champs. but certainly. pretty much all assassins and AD/AP champs want burst and better early game.

Anyone who relies more on poke than all ins will typically benefit more from deathfire. As well DoT based champions benefit quite a bit from deathfire.

i agree. DoT champs. but who wants poke late game. and late game is where DFT is of any use. u want that in the laning phase.

There are plenty of team comps built around poke and siege.

Poking is still relevant lategame, especially during sieges or when both teams are positioning around Baron.

While Thunderlord's gives increased burst, DFT far outdamages it in DPS.

i agree. but no one in their right mind is gonna stand still waiting for their health to wither away slowly. especially late game. you just back or probably have some sort of a shield support or heal. or even have potions. while. when your in a team fight. you see the damage right there. immediately. you attack the adc. they're dead. you don't wait for them to kill 1 or 2 other people before they die.

excuse my retarded unranked understanding of the game

If your primary goal is just bursting down the ADC, then yes, Thunderlord's is still better than DFT (most assassins are going to prefer TLD). But DFT is going to deal much more damage to tanks, fighters and the rest of the enemy team, especially if an engagement becomes drawn out. Thunderlord's is generally only dealing its damage to 1 champion unless the enemy is very grouped, while DFT will be constantly damaging up to 5.

A large part of the power in thunderlords was actually in precision, which is getting nerfed for AD champs. I think Thunderlords will still be good but it will hardly be mandatory.

Really?

I didn't even take that into consideration. Well I feel silly.

One important thing to understand about the new mastery trees is that because you need to put 18 points in 1 tree in order to get a keystone, the power budgets of the keystones and the masteries that come right before them are inextricably linked. In order to put 18 points in a tree and get a keystone, you need to put 5 points in the mastery preceding it and can no longer choose any of the masteries of that level on the other 2 branches of the tree. Part of the reason that the Ferocity tree is so weak right now is not only are the keystones mediocre, but both of the % masteries preceding it are vastly inferior to Precision in nearly every scenario.

To put it into perspective for you, in order for either of the % masteries to be better than precision at lvl 1, your target needs to have 78 or more of the particular resistance you're penetrating. And that's only for 1 type of damage; precision gives both flat armor and magic pen while the ferocity masteries give you one or the other. That number also goes up the higher lvl you are since the ferocity masteries stay at 7% the entire game and precision goes up by .5 per level. At lvl 18, your target needs more than 200 of the particular resistance to make the ferocity masteries better than precision without accounting for any items you buy. Keep in mind that flat penetration also scales better with the % penetration that you'll buying from items and Precision is far better than Battering Blows or Piercing thoughts in nearly every situation on nearly every champion. Thunderlords is probably also a little too good but its power is very largely derived from precision being beneath it and the strongest mastery in all 3 trees.

Just because it's DOT doesn't mean it isn't free dmg... what you're referring too is a visual impact which, indeed, is a plus for TLD because people can see the effect of the mastery unlike most others.

You wouldnt get Thunderlords on Champs with spammable abilities , DT will outdo it all day long.
