Being able to succeed in League regardless of what you spend is a core value for our ecommerce team"

You're kidding, right?

You're either full of shit or your ecommerce team hasn't remotely lived up to expectations.

New players are at innate disadvantages because:

  • They have less runes

Means less flexibility. People who OTP Champs know how important this is. You need different rune setups that are specific for champions, and then in some cases, optimal pages for matchups. If you're against an ad mid, you need armor runes, not hp. If you're against an ap, you need MR or MR/lvl, or a mix, depending on that champions power spikes.

  • Less rune pages

Again, less flexibility. Two is simply not remotely enough. 6.3k for a rune page is honestly outrageous. I have OTPed multiple champions in my time of LoL; and each one required a minimum of four separate, optimized rune pages depending on team comp, matchups, etc. Not every champion can work off just ad or ap. It's foolish to think otherwise.

  • Less champion pools

Players should unlock champions with IP. I'm okay with this. This way when they hit 30, they can get tons of champs before they get to ranked, instead of investing basically every fucking point of IP into runes and like 2-3 champions.

  • Some skins give unfair advantages

Namely the Lux Ultimate skin, but there have been some in the past that really fuck with someone with poor eyesight like myself, it's difficult to distinguish who the champions are if I'm not already aware they have a skin on. And the particles for that Lux skin are basically fucking invisible for me, thanks for that Riot.

Is League P2W? Honestly? not really. New players can just avoid ranked, right? Otherwise they have to deal with the fact that they are given innate disadvantages.

Note, this is coming from a player who has played since season 1. I have all champions unlocked, all runes and rune pages. And I don't mind if you give free shit to your newer players in the ability to unlock runes - things that actually affect your ability to play the game effectively, away for free. Let people grind for champions or pay RP for champions. That's fine. But don't force these players to go without stats they need to survive lane.

The point of that quote is that people can't just pay for power like you could in most MMOs out there, getting access to equipment or features you couldn't get normally just by playing. If you have the money to burn, you can buy every champion on the roster, but you have to actually learn how to play those champions; you can't buy anything that will act as a crutch for you.

The bonuses that runes give is much less than people want to force themselves to believe. It's so marginal as to be nearly nonexistent; for the longest time, I went without a rune page, finally filling a page when people started throwing games just because I didn't have one, and now they continue to throw a galactic shit fit because I just bought a bunch of random runes to fill up every slot. But no matter what way you want to slice it, it is not a make or break thing. If you think it is, then you REALLY need to get some perspective.
