Good support items vs bad support items

Good support items: item 3107 "GODDAMN GUACAMOLE am I not a mastermind? Just look at how I saved my whole team by predicting their position. Perfect use of redemption." "IT'S REDEMPTION GUYS! RUN TOWARDS IT! NOW THIS IS EXCITING GAMEPLAY!" "Wow, that was a godly use of Redemption, props to you Bobby Robby Bobson."

Bad support items: item 3504 "So um... Here's a shield and a bunch of stats. Have fun I guess." "Wow. Where this all this life steal and attack speed come from? Ah yeah I accidentally stepped into Janna's ult. Well cool, I think." "Oh, so... I just out-stat'd this other guy. You're pretty good Lulu. I've never seen someone press E as sexy as you."

Good support items: item 3050 "OKAY SO WHEN I USE MY ULT ATTACK THE CRAP OUT OF THEM OKAY?! Ready? 1, 2, 3, HIYAAAA!!!!!!! Look at this ice storm around me! If we coordinate our attacks, we actually do even more damage! I fucking love this item! Even if it's weaker than the Censer!!!" item 3190 "WOAH THAT WAS A GODLY LOCKET BRAUM. The best part is that it's a decaying shield, so you actually have to time it right, and you used it just when were going to get hit by Orianna's ult, that really saved us! I'll give you a Teemo skin after this game."

Bad support items: item 3109 "What's this arrow that is pointing towards my support? I bet it does something really cool like, I don't know, firing a deadly laser that damages enemies and shields me or something cool that actually can be considered interactive gameplay." "Woah, my ADC lived thanks to the Knight's Vow I bought. Unfortunately nobody will ever acknowledge that because this item's passive is boring as fuck."

Not all support items must have flashy actives like DotA does. But it would be cool if there were less of those items that only give you well... stats. item 3174 is an item bought by supports that doesn't have an active, yet it manages to be an example of interactive gameplay, because it rewards you for doing for doing something fun (risking your puny little squishy life to deal damage, in this case, instead of staying behind and pressing E).

Not everything has to be super interactive. Master what you have at your disposal currently, they're already adding interactive runes. There's already so much visual noise from everything being interactive nowadays that's it's really hard to take in everything that's going on, let alone for new players. Some items give actives and unique interactions that must require skill to use, and some are super passive for a known quantity of value. For skilled players, these windows of power where your actives make a huge difference are worth the trade-off in raw stats, but sometimes you just need the raw stats.

Personally I like the item 3174 the most as it actually requires you using your kit instead of just pushing an item button and then going akf b/c your job is done.
