Dear Riot, This is how you can reduce complaint threads without making balance changes

All of us would love to see less angry complaints on the boards. As fiery complaints pile up here day after day, your team loses incentive to consider the boards as a valuable resource, and that's a lose-lose situation for everyone here.

There are things that can be done right now to mitigate some of these complaints, and you wouldn't even have to make any balance changes or patch releases to do so.

All we need from you, is for you to inform us about what the values are within your balance philosophy. The community at large may have a misunderstanding about what Riot's balance goals are for league right now.

If you look at the core of every player's balance argument, we have a really hard time when we encounter champions that "break the rules," but what does that even mean? Well, its a simple comparison of one champion's abilities vs. another, within a particular player's perception - a simple comparison within the complexities of personal bias. The most challenging aspect of this is how a player develops their idea of what is fair in a game.

What builds each player's personal understanding of fairness are the rules that are laid out before them, and their personal experience with said rules. The most important part here is that the more ambiguity that's left in the rules, the broader the interpretation of rules the players will take.

In a nutshell, if you don't take the initiative in explaining the rules of your balance philosophy, then players are going to fill in those blanks instead - which will lead to endless complaints, because there is a gulf between personal expectations and reality.

Please, just educate us on what your design rules and goals are, so we can all get on the same page. Because if you don't advocate for yourself and your design strategy, some people will continue to make unproductive comments.

Go check out the warframe community, for all of the faults DE has, one thing they do well is communicate and attempt to keep players informed on the why's and when's with weekly/biweekly twitch streams, rewards for watching, etc.

I mean, isn't that what the Dev Corner section is for?

you mean the section where only one rioter did something , and was actually great until he had a child (congratulations btw) and had to leave for a month showing how much he was important ?

Have you looked at the section? It has pretty much everything that the OP is asking for. They still have posts there despite the main person being on paternity leave.

Explanations of changes and why they are implementing them. Feelings on the current state of the game and the things that they are looking at to correct problems they have with the state of the game.

i think what the OP means is more so the holistic choices that go into the balance patches, not so much, "were buffing X and nerfing Y because they are being a pain" but more a post going into "why do we consider X and Y a pain and how does that view fit into our idea around how the game should be balanced." honesty may not be a bad idea, could stop a lot of the "Riot only balances around Pro play" that goes around

Untill they need to explain what happened and is happening to Tahm TahmKench :D

im not sure they know what they want to do with Tahm yet, i think he is one of the more problematic champions like Ryze, Azir and Kalista where they bounce buffs and nerfs around the PBE all the time trying to find a good middle ground

Speak for yourself, the fact that the Gameplay Boards is filled with worthless circlejerking it's what makes it worth to read by being funny.

Then people would just complain about their shitty balance philosophy, which is, of course, the root of shitty balance.

removal of "angry complaints" would make gameplay boards empty, there's literally nothing else here
