If You Are Going to Nerf Doran's Ring, At Least Nerf it The Right Way

Right now, this is what Doran's Ring gives: +60 Health +15 Ability Power +50% Base Mana Regen UNIQUE Passive: Restores 4 Mana upon killing a unit.

They are nerfing it like this: +50% Base Mana Regen UNIQUE Passive: Restores 4 Mana upon killing a unit. Now gives 5 mana per 5 seconds Now gives +5 damage on hit versus minions

**I would change it like this: ** +50% Base Mana Regen UNIQUE Passive: Restores 4 --> 6 Mana upon killing a unit. Now gives +5 damage on hit versus minions

With the +5 damage on hit versus minions, mages will be back to their comfort/normal csing pattern. Rewarding you for last hitting makes more sense imo than removing the skill aspect of Doran's Ring completly.

The 5 over 5s is actually better than 50% base for mages with lower base mana regen. On top of this nearly every single mage is receiving a base mana regen buff along with increased base mana. Which would in turn make the mana return on kill overloaded at early levels.

5 per 5 is better in most cases for mages with lower base mana regen except for when they have a few levels(since it scales) and the gained basestat mana regen is just additional 2mp5 so it's not that much. The mana per kill however is actually quite a big change, when they made that lone part a unique one it single handedly made the doran stacking not worth it so I would be careful with dismissing it entirely.

It does however seem kinda hilarious that the mana pools of mage champions are going to end up at the sole end of the mana chart, with champions like vel'koz and xerath ending up in the top 10 of champions with least max mana in the game, and Twisted fate taking the spot of the champion with the least max mana possible, passing the previous owner of the title, Volibear.

And with items mana items losing efficiency, archangel losing 5% off the refund and changes applying to so many champions(including ones that cannot waveclear efficiently like Lux and Lissandra) it does seem like a general nerf to the mage role as a whole, although not nearly as big as some people would make it out to be.

You're losing a total of like ~200 mana by lv 18. Even then most of said champs build mana/regen so it doesn't entirely matter.

You also have to remember that almost every mage is getting +100~ mana at lv 1 coupled with increased regen. You're not really losing out on anything other than ~200 mana. Along with that +20 AP to RoA and +10 to Lost Chapter. Two items that are also commonly built on mana mages. So yeah, the nerfs aren't really nerfs. They're basically buffs with how little of a drawback there actually is.

It's a loss of 300 mana on average ( yes, even including the gain of 100 mana early)which is not a small amount. That's also coupled with a price increase to lost chapter to 1300 which is actually a way bigger deal than people realize ( a cost increase on Viktor hexcore up to 1250 made him almost unviable because his early backs were so bad) as well as other items losing mana regen and overall efficiency. The only item that might end up better is the doran ring with regen that can now br stacked.

There's also the fact the devs themselves point out they know its a nerf so no, there's no way it'll end up as a buff if its not even designed to be power neutral. Now whether the loss of mana will end up improving midlane diversity because waveclearing is inefficient i have no idea but if it does it will most likely be with a cost of not being able to play some champions for quite a while as they become unviable until their reworks which might take a long time.
