Can someone tell me what LP is?

I finished my placers yesterday and got silver 5, pretty excited I'm not bronze since I lost 6 whole matches albeit on the very edge, and looked at it on my page and found LP and a 0 next to it. I'm guessing it determines when i get promoted/demoted but I might be wrong. Can someone clarify this for me please?

Lumbar puncture.

Oh, you meant in league? League Points. Losing when at 0 will demote, getting to 100 will get you a promotion series. You have demotion invulnerability for a few games after joining a league.

When you win a ranked, you earn LP and vice versa. If you lose a few games while having 0LP, you get demoted, and, if you have 100LP, you need to win a few rankeds to get to a higher division.

LP is called League Points. You get League points for when you play Ranked games. You also Lose LP when you play ranked if you lose. LP is given and lost based solely on whether you win or lose and NOT individual performance (big mistake in my opinion). The amount of LP you get is based on how long you can push the match out. So if you play a 45 minute game you would get more than if you were to win at 20 and if you win by FF@20 or just by FF alone, you get less LP than if you were to destroy the nexus.

The amount of LP you lose works on the same thing. If you play the whole match with no FF then you lose less LP than if you were to FF.

But again, it is given and taken purely on whether or not you lose.
