50% win rate...demoted

ChrisThePleb··1 votes·831 views

SO I got promoted to Silver 4 and after a 50% win rate in the league i get demoted. Literally w-l-w-l-w-l...

Why? I don't understand. What is this?

Someone explain to me how this happens?

its MMR based, not LP based. meaning it matters which games you win, and which games you lose. if you lose against worse players you tend to drop more. if you win against better opponents/teams you will climb faster.

you would be mistaken if you believed that riot matches you fairly. theres always variation among the players/averages.

Pretty much this. 50% is a general baseline for the winrate you need to climb.

That may be how it actually works, but to end up demoted though, I think is a bridge too far.

Well you can get rough estimate by using numbers for each rank. Just average your team's mmr versus the other team and you can tell if it's trying to lower or boost your rank / lp gain + loss.

Rough estimates for the old elo system numbers is something like

Bronze V 800 - 870 Bronze IV 870 - 940 Bronze III 940 - 1010 Bronze II 1010 - 1080 Bronze I 1080 - 1150

Silver V 1150 - 1220 Silver IV 1220 - 1290 Silver III 1290 - 1360 Silver II 1360 - 1430 Silver I 1430 - 1500

Gold V 1500 - 1570 Gold IV 1570 - 1640 Gold III 1640 - 1710 Gold II 1710 - 1780 Gold I 1780 - 1850

Platinum V 1850 - 1920 Platinum IV 1920 - 1990 Platinum III 1990 - 2060 Platinum II 2060 - 2130 Platinum I 2130 - 2200

Diamond V 2200 - 2270 Diamond IV 2270 - 2340 Diamond III 2340 - 2410 Diamond II 2410 - 2480 Diamond I 2480 - 2550

So say you have a team that is b4, b3, b3 b2, b5 and the enemy is b4, b4, b5, s5, s3

870 + 940 + 940 + 1010 + 800 / 5 = 912 average mmr for your team 870 + 870 + 800 + 1150 + 1290 / 5 = 996 average mmr for the other team.

Divide the difference in two mmrs by 4 so 996 - 912 / 4 = 21

This is typically how I estimate lp gained after winning the match and has been relatively accurate for me so far. Until I climb more and get a larger sample though I cannot be sure on how accurate it actually is and I have not done anything to estimate amount of lp lost. (In this case for a match like that I typically get around 21 per win and around -10 per loss so I'm guessing it's half the difference)

Using this system for your janna ranked game Your team's average mmr: 1500 Opponent's average mmr: 1486

1500 - 1486 / 4 = around 4 lp gained? (Please tell me if this is completely wrong so I can change my estimation system. Note that depending on how close they are to the next rank the actual mmr they're worth can skew the calculation higher or lower by a decent amount)

Yeah this is how the system works. You ever notice those matches where you get matched with a team of lower ranking(mmr) vs much higher rankings(mmr)? That's the system trying to pinpoint where you should be.

I've also noticed on winstreaks it'll often give me much much lower mmr teammates versus higher mmr players. At one point around a week ago it gave me a team full of mid to low bronze against a team of 2 s5 silvers, 2 s5 golds, and a single bronze 3 / 4. (I play way more norms than ranked so it's natural that the mmr is typically higher)

Most of the higher silver / low golds from last season are currently bronze III to Silver II ranking wise. The few s5 plats I've seen have all been around Gold IV - Gold II this season.

It's a shame we're not really far enough into the season in my opinion to disregard ending ranks from last season.

I was 16-14 on my smurf when I won my gold 5 to gold 4 promo, and I still skipped gold 4, getting placed in gold 3 instead. Your win/loss does not represent your MMR.
