From a common sense standpoint, is there ANY reason to pick a tank over a bruiser?

Not talking about tank supports for botlane, I'm talking about Shen, Nautilus, etc.

What's the point of having one pick sponge that delas no damage and just gets popped by broken ap and ad items? Over a bruiser that can take a punch, split push, and hold its own against adc overlords

Because tanks are way better teamfighters

CC! also, no one says you have to built them fulltank, most 'tanks' scale very well with magicpen and ap. Mao is a massive beast, malph can win a clash with a single ult, Nauti is strong at catching and peeling, alistar still is pretty strong, one of the few melees that actually survives an engage for longer than 5sec while bringing massive cc. right now, most bruisers are shit compared to tanks, cause they rely on snowballing the lane and afterwards splitpush, since they suck in clashes.

Nautilus late game wins, you cant' escape him and he can peel like a mutha trucka.... but his early game clears suck balls, so your team has to survive long enough to let him be viable.

That's the point, if the enemy team is raping early to mid game taking all dragons and towers his lategame prescence won't matter.

That's why your whole team picks well to adjust for it. Tanks wreck when the team is coordinated. So the answer is:

Pick a bruiser if you can't count on your team. Pick a tank if you can.

Err...cc would be a pretty good reason. I hate when I'm playing a squishy, especially an immobile one, and we have no proper peel.

Because when your team already has 2 to 3 damage dealers, you normally don't need another and a tank normally has FAR more CC then a bruiser. Sejunai, Amumu, Nautilus. Yeah, end game, have fun trying to escape these three.

tanks have slows, stuns, taunts and snares bruisers, assassins, and others have knockups and displacements... I'd say no.

Well malphite is .... wait... nevermind, he's a burst mage now.... Not a tank, carry on.

Bruisers fall off even faster than tanks.

Eventually even fighters will become nothing but meat shields, at least tanks can be meat shields with lots of cc.

The theory is that tanks provide better CC and disruption than bruisers.

In practice, that doesn't seem to be working out. Irelia is pretty disruptive.

You don't die as quickly.

Getting focused as a bruiser can make your life difficult, but as a tank it will punish them much more than it does you.
