Jayce vs. Quinn Tips?

kcStranger··1 votes·8,723 views

So, I played Jayce into Quinn top the other day and got pwned. I went to the internet looking for tips on how to handle the matchup, and about all I could find was "this matchup is hard." Although I know that the obvious step is to play with Quinn a bit so I understand her kit, I was wondering if anyone has played this matchup and has advice on how to handle it (item starts, when to trade and when not to, how to trade, lane positioning, etc.). Thanks!

Added later: Rather than respond to everyone individually, let me just say this here in case anyone comes back: Thanks all for the helpful advice!

Hmm, imagining it I can see why it is hard for jayce. Try to trade effectively by hitting your Q, dodging hers (honestly that is just up to your skill as a player vs theirs) You generally wouldn't be able to trade effectively if she has he E up so only jump in with hammer form if you have a gank, if she used E already or if you think you can dish out your damage without her reacting fast enough. To effectively trade as jayce you need to get your damage off and then knock them away but that generally applies to melee champions. She is pretty good at returning that damage so you want to just find as many good trades as possible. After getting tear you can poke a lot more often so just cs safely, poke and try to trade well.

Generally you shouldn't die to her if she was running teleport but for future reference, whenever an enemy takes ignite you want to stay relatively healthy in lane. If you are sub 40% health be really careful because they are most like able to kill you with ignite.

I have played this matchup a couple of times. Heres a few tips from my experience of losing and winning it.

  1. You cs much better than she does, take advantage of that.
  2. She has pretty low range for an adc, which means you can most likely get a successful E-Q combo off if she tries to come around for your caster minions.
  3. Max e second, i almost always max w second but her blind makes this totally useless, the only way you will be able to kill her is after the blind wears off and re engaging with hammer form as after she blinds you she probably followed it up with the rest of her abilities, meaning all her cc is on cooldown and quinn has fairly long cooldowns.
  4. This one is the most important, almost every quinn i play against top takes ignite. You want them to do this. Tell your bot lane to throw a deep ward in the bush by the enemies tower and then wait for them to push and tp to it. This is how i get all of my kills against quinn. I kill her teammates and help destroy other lanes. You have to remember that she is an adc at heart and needs kills to be effective. You do not, your role and damage is enormous without many kills. Bonus: When she jumps off of you, if you time it correctly right when you see her leave the ground you can E-Q fast enough to hit her as she has to go past her minions and is right in front of you. Ive been able to successfully do this a couple times and basically everytime resulted in a kill or her backing as i immediately followed it up with hammer form and obliterated her, burning her flash/ult or killing her.

Her waveclear is not too well. You should have an easy time controlling the lane.

Her vault(E) is her only form of mobility and CC. If she uses it to get a passive proc take advantage of that. You'll out trade her with hammer combo followed by some ranged hits.

If she misses her Q(the blind) then a quick EQ->Hammer->EQ then run away in the gate should be effective. At most she'll get one or two AA's in. Will also likely use her vault putting her further away.

Worst comes to worse, you're more useful as the game goes on. Play safe and don't let her snowball. I do believe you can knock her back mid vault if you time it right and make her not get the passive proc. But you'll have to swap quickly to pull this off.

Jayce has two big advantages in this matchup. His Q/E combo WAY outranges Quinn and his all-in melee attacks destroy her. If she blinds you in melee range, just knock her back and switch back to ranged attacks. If you let her keep in medium range, you're going to have a bad day.

Don't get chunked, wait until lvl 4-5 and all-in her from a bush. She can't survive your combo, if you land E+Q poke. Her lvl 6 is better than yours, so if you don't get a lead, she can execute you then.

quinn is an insanely good duelist especially against auto attackers. she counters jayce at pretty much all stages of the game. try to get your team into a sieging position so you can poke with your EQ to negate her advantage in skirmishes.

your best bet is landing Qs from outside of her range because she wins all trades inside of her auto attack range due to harrier + vault + blind. she can even vault your hammer form Q to remove the damage before it lands.

Try to use Quinn's weaknesses to your advantage.

First of, she has rather bad waveclear, making her susceptible to being shoved under turret.

Second, she's a bit snowball-dependant, and can't build to counter your damage easily (there are no AD/Armor items). Try to use that.

Possibly, don't even go for the Tear Jayce build - that one leaves you in a power hole when Quinn is at her strongest - making the match-up even harder.

The first thing you should do is not play a cancer ranged top and stop ruining the game for the other player.

Yes, he should focus his picks on playing champions that you enjoy facing over ones the enjoys playing.

Jayce top is nothing new. And he's been balanced around the top lane multiple times by now.

Quinn is a bit more annoying, but requires getting a lead to matter past lanning phase.
