4 out of 5 Bjergsens think Syndra could use a mana buff

kcStranger··40 votes·2,786 views

Granted, he probably went for too much W harass in lane; using that spell much will put you oom very quickly. Still, he spends a good chunk of the first 10 minutes of this video complaining about Syndra's mana, and even misses a solo kill at one point due to not having enough mana for ult.

After the Q damage nerfs, Syndra is a much less oppressive lane bully, and the E stun width buffs also hurt her as well. I'm not asking for a revert on those nerfs, but a little buff to Syndra's mana costs would go a long way towards making her viable again. (Currently Q is 40-80 and W is 60-100. Personally, I would put Q at 45-65 and W at 50-90, but I'm no balance expert so I might be wrong.)

I'd bring back her Q, it was ridiculous to nerf her stun while simultaneously nerfing her Q. I wouldn't reduce mana costs.

kcStranger6 votes

As a Syndra main I'd rather have the damage back too, but I'm operating under the assumption that that isn't happening.

JimmyNtheKudos1 votes

Yeah, If it was going to happen it would have probably happened already. I still don't understand why she was nerfed so hard, she had like a 48% win rate pre-nerf. Yes her stun was crazy (just Q > E insta stun) but again changing her stun was enough since it makes her learning curve even steeper. Her Q made her a big early game bully, but taking away DFG all she has is early and mid game now so it's not so bad that she's a lane bully. I really miss old Syndra...

Interesting. I usually press R to get 30% of my mana back.

lightdragoon884 votes

Interesting. I get the same result when I press R with Malzahar.

Syndra is at a depressing point, ever since her Q nerf damage, her W bug, her E bug (and nerf) she is just plain bad in this current meta, many mids out class her damage, many mid laners also have better base stats as well. :/ She honestly needs a rework on her passive which is completely boring and doesn't bring much power into a tank meta, and she could also use a buff on her Q I think it is what 50+25 at level 1 (if you start dorans ring and have ap quints). Either Buff her and rework parts of her kits or just delete her cause thats where i feel she is. And yes she may have a good ult, but other than that her kit is in poor shape

kcStranger3 votes

I don't think it's as bad as all that. Her winrate is about 45% overall; when you consider that she's very difficult to play and that the meta probably isn't very favorable to her at the moment, a 50% winrate (or even 48%) would likely mean she was overpowered. I think they should just fix her bugs (I'm given to understand they're working on them, there was a post on surrender@20 about a fix for a very prominent bug) and give a little boost to her mana costs, and see where she winds up.

As far as her passive goes...I personally don't think it's boring, but I see why others do. They definitely pushed the max rank on her abilities more than they would if she had a different passive. The max-rank Q damage is particularly noticeable; you spike hard at level 9.

I made a topic/idea of Syndra passive to make it more noticeable and more fun in my opinion.

I would like to hear your thoughts about it.

I'm winding down for the evening so I don't want to think too hard about this at the moment XD But...

I think the current passive is fine, but I also think your idea is interesting and certainly fits with the way Riot is trending in their champion development. (It's very similar to the Ryze rework.) Offhand, I wouldn't hate it if they took Syndra in this direction. Would have to see how it played, though.

K. Have a good night.

Well, you know, it's pretty stupid how K6 got 99 passives, one of it.. is to evolve his abilities all 6 levels and Syndras just feel like a limitation to her earlygame. Meanwhile lanebullies like Azir do huge amounts of damage from level 1 on and also got burst damage, sustained damage and reliable CC.

Vistha Kai1 votes

The best part of game balance is that a lane bully was the last thing Azir's suppose to be.

Funny, ain't it? Nerf older champions for doing what they are suppose to do and "rework" newer champions into exactly what they're not suppose to be.

I don't know if you noticed but Riot took your idea... They put it on Ryze kind of, you know after insert this the you get insert this for this amount of seconds before returning back to normal.

I noticed....and I was like "No I said Syndra, not Ryze!!! D:"

Win rate does not prove a thing, Lee, thresh, have lower winrates too but that doesn't mean their kits aren't oppressive at all. Syndra has a low play rate, low win rate vs most champions (key is champions not overall winrate) and she has a horrible eiarly and late game, her only mediocre spike is mid game. By the time the front line and back line have farmed up, Syndra can't touch a thing. She has no sticking ability, champions like Ahri, Kat, Zed, Diana, Ori, TF all have kits that allow for either a giant AOE ult or one that allows being able to get to the back line. Syndra is a burst mage, but burst doesn't mean much in this meta since she can't burst a tank. And I know the S@20 post, but its only E not for her W nor her Q+E combo where sometimes the stun will go backwards or the ball won't move at all, they are only fixing the stun knockback :/

You realize syndra isn't a flashy champions who counters flashy champions(assassins)?

I'm surprised riot didn't nerf her even harder.

TotalJerk1 votes

The orb mechanic does have plenty potential to be flashy.

IcyPepper1 votes

I dunno, I think she's very flashy. The Q is a tad underwhelming, but the W is cool and the E is alright. R then E, however, is probably one of the coolest things Syndra can do.

You're looking at it from a perspective of someone who understands the champions, that's not how riot look at it,they look at it from the perspective of someone who doesn't understand the game at all:

annie sudden flash tibbers out of nowhere? flashy. syndra's telegraphed short range abilities? not flashy. azir jumping at people then shoving them under tower? flashy. lux standing in place throwing skillshots at people? not flashy.

The faster it is and the longer range it has the flashier it is,syndra doesn't fit into that, that's why riot is so obssed with champions most people consider obnoxious, because their mobility+burst makes them flashy, and obnoxious.

IcyPepper1 votes

Poor Syndra...

At least Lux's latest skin makes her really flashy now. Dat ult especially.

Remember when syndra was more oppressive than Annie, or kata? yea i dont either :D

kcStranger1 votes

Only in pro play.

Vistha Kai3 votes

For what? A week?

Meanwhile Annie - whole freaking season.

kcStranger1 votes

Yeah, the comparison works better for Katarina.

kcStranger3 votes

LOL. In fairness, that's kind of what you get as Syndra if you're constantly out in front of your team.

lightdragoon883 votes

Yeah if I recall it was a free week Syndra.

I just remember this video whenever her name comes up because I **HATED **her back then.

Not so much now....

Fair...that music tho

I make athenes on her first and live a happy life.

kcStranger2 votes

That's my usual first build too, and I agree things get a lot better once you build it. Still, it doesn't really do much for early laning (especially if you're against an AD mid and feel obliged to get Seeker's first). I think the general sentiment is that Syndra is a bit underpowered, and I think a small buff along these lines would give her back some potential without much risk of her suddenly becoming overpowered.

I used to love playing Syndra but every time I have tried her since the nerfs it has been miserable. Her only contribution to the team is her q-e stun at this point. You might as well have a taric mid and bypass the skillshot.

In teamfights hold your e until after R. It's a freaking amumu ult.

Byakuya Kuchiki1 votes

ive never had mana problems on mages or assassins and i dont build a mana item. i have mana problems on fighters like udyr and ADCs

Jofeyy1 votes

As a syndra main I just cant wait for them to fix her stun bug. Thats all i really want tbh but any buffs are a blessing.

TotalJerk1 votes

Bugfixes first, then buffs. Don't you guys remember what happened to Azir? They buffed the shit out of him to make him viable despite his bugged out state, then when they actually fixed the bugs he was OP.

kcStranger1 votes

That's a valid point. I personally think a small mana buff would be safe, but if Riot responded and said "We're working to get the bugs fixed before looking at buffs," I'd be OK with that.

FistOfSharkiesha1 votes

Well Vladamir is her biggest counter in the game so it's not a good matrix for balancing at all. He can sustain all of her poke and pool her ultimate, leaving her completely helpless 1v1. She's still a strong, high range lane bully.
