Should we start from scratch with Mordekaiser?

(Coming from a person who has never cared for Mordekaiser before or now.)

tl;dr With all the outrage on the changing of Mordekaiser's title and his kit that deviated from his original theme, should Mordekaiser be slated for a full relaunch?

It seems that Riot has kept the worst part of Mordekaiser, his base kit, and is trying to build a champion around it, but maybe they should throw the kit and his visuals away and start from scratch.

Mordekaiser as a master of metal, a walking iron maiden, isn't really in his kit at all, which justifies the title change, but I think that should be the true theme of Mordekaiser. This can be reached with a full relaunch.

Mordekaiser also has a lot that makes him unhealthy. These things could normally be separated and used to balance, but I think all of them at once makes his unfun to play against.

What should be kept?

  • Is it his immense power for the trade of no CC or mobility?
  • His masochistic shield power?
  • His command over ghostly things?

If Riot does do this, it'll take a long time before Mordekaiser will be in a good state.

I vote no.

Despite the issues his certain kit has, it's moving the game in a really cool direction and it's a really BA direction for the champion to move into.

Ever since season 1, there weren't really any meta's that allowed a team without a marksman. After season 1, the meta has always had 1 player in bot lane as a marksman specifically as well. No melee carries, no mages, no fighters - has to be a marksman, where the most exotic picks are still marksman in Urgot, Teemo, or Jayce. Which is really limiting when you consider the archetype choices top lane, jungle, mid lane, and support positions offer. Especially seeing as a few marksman actually can function in other lane positions, mostly mid and top lane.

Anyways - the notion you can run a really unique champion like Morde bot-lane in the "ADC" spot is just really cool, especially if it hints at more diversity for that position. Riot should 100% make Morde work in that niche IMO.

His proposed title change is admittedly derppy.

Master of Metal is currently a duel-entandre what with Mordekaiser's skills all being named after heavy-metal songs (and he even has his own heavy-metal songs), along with the obvious in that he's literally made of metal.

i don't know

imo he should be both. Metal should be an enhancement to his dark magic.

His current kit -could- be retuned, but I feel like he's fairly limited as it stands. He should have abilities, to me, that reward selfish play and team play differently -- and that could only be achieved with metal. It's also a very unique route that I don't recall being explored so far; they don't change completely in function depending on how the champion uses them.

I think his W is a very potent spell that would do this; self-cast, he could re-cast it for, say, a spell-vamp like he currently has, or a resistance sap. But if he uses it on an ally, he can re-cast it to instead create a trap zone between them to snare any enemies caught in the crossfire.

I would like to see either his Q or his E given a delay; this way they can really play up their visual flair and make them more satisfying (and easier to balance) as a result.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing them rework his kit, but I feel like it's hard NOT for him to stay true to himself. He has all the basic functions for spells down; they just aren't loaded enough to be balanceable.
