Poacher's Dirk + Future's Market IS GOLD EFFICIENT!

Poacher's Dirk item 3252 +10 attack damage Unique – Headhunter: After killing any enemy, your next damaging spell will deal 40 bonus physical damage to all enemies it hits (30 second cooldown). Unique: After poaching 4 large monsters from the enemy jungle, transforms into a Serrated Dirk item 3134 that sells for Gold 0.

Recipe Long Sword item 1036 (350g) + 150g = 500g

From cost analysis, using a Long Sword as the benchmark for attack damage, spending 500 gold for what amounts to a Long Sword with a passive is only 70% gold efficient.

I think the community in general has agreed that this is not worth it since this item is very uncommonly purchased.

However, with Future's Market, you are automatically allowed an extra 150g +5 per minute.

From my practice, you usually have about 640g after clearing your fourth jungle camp, giving you enough for Poacher's Dirk and and one other item at or below 300g.

( Side note: I like having boots because you have backed early and are going to be counter-jungling. Being able to move quickly gives you the best chance of getting into the enemy jungle ahead of the enemy, and getting back out without getting collapsed on. It might also be worth considering starting with a refillable and upgrading it to a Hunter's Potion at this point. Having the extra sustain is good when you consider the danger you will be putting yourself in while invading, also taking into account how gold efficient this item is as well)

By using the 150g from FM, you negate the extra recipe cost to purchase Poacher's Dirk. This means, Poacher's Dirk is now 100% gold efficient (not accounting for the passive)

"But you are putting yourself negative that 150g and another 50g on top of that"

Three reasons why that doesn't matter.

First, your negative balance only impacts you on your next return to the market. At this point you have only spent the gold that you have earned.

Second, the additional passive that you gain from Poacher's Dirk (or any item you purchase with Future's Market) has(have) the potential to give you enough of an advantage to make up for that gold deficit by allowing you to accumulate gold faster. Early advantage means you can start to snowball. Therefore, it is best to use Future's Market to purchase gold efficient items.

Third, when Poacher's Dirk finally evolves, you now have 25 attack damage and 10 Lethality FOR FREE, which adds up to a gold value of 1100g. Because of the first point, you have essentially only spent 350g for 1100g worth of stats (not accounting for the passive). That is over 300% gold efficiency. There is no other item in the game that is more gold efficient. AND, the time that it has taken you to complete the evolution will have resulted in gold that you can now invest into another item, instead of Serrated Dirk.

I heavily do not recommend this to newer players. Invading requires a lot of map awareness, warding, and tracking the enemy movements. Even I don't buy poacher's dirk because I know I don't have the skill to utilize it. My friend, I know buys poacher's dirk though because he's fairly good at invading. Every time I play with him if the enemy jungler appears my friend's like, "oh, he's top side? So I have full permission to clear out his bot side jungle?" It's hilarious. He puts the enemy jungler so far behind that the enemy team starts complaining about how "bad their jungler is." I almost feel bad for the guy, but it's I'm having to much of a laugh to.

I do appreciate including this recommendation.

Invading is absolutely a risky tactic, and if an intelligent enemy even sees that you have purchased Poacher's Dirk, they are going to expect that you plan on invading.

It sounds like your friend does have the right idea though, and fortunately they have passed that information on to you. It is very important to be mindful of where the enemy jungler is, .. or rather, where they aren't.

Taking the Domination path as your primary, and Inspiration as your secondary is a good strategy here. All three of the Slot 2 options have to do with improving your vision score. Unless I am confident that I can get in and out without running into the enemy jungler, I will often only invade when I have at least a ward available to place, or a charge of Smite, .. and I would prefer to have both. Even still, I will often Smite the large Raptor, Wolf, or Krug and ditch. You don't need the whole camp, just the big one.

I'll have to recommend this to my friend. I know he usually takes Domination primary and either sorcery or precision secondary depending on champion. (Sometimes Precision primary on certain champs like if he plans on going Rhaast with Kayn, but then he usually doesn't invade.) All in all, it's a high risk vs high reward strategy. If you mess up it can cost you heavily, but if you pull it off it has the huge advantage of putting the enemy behind and you ahead and a jungler that is behind can't do much.

I think a lot of people like the Domination / Sorcery combo because it gives the most bonus AD or AP available from the Rune Traits. I don't think people fully realize that Domination / Inspiration or Sorcery / Inspiration gives the same amount. Also Precision / Inspiration gives more attack speed and Resolve / Inspiration gives more health than any other combination.

Once again, you are right. Future's Market is all about getting ahead and staying ahead, which is how most matches are won in the current meta. On the flip side, if you have fallen behind, Future's Market can do very little to help you catch back up. The risk starts in champion select, so I agree that this is not a strategy for someone who is not comfortable with their champion and an aggressive invading strategy.

It's mostly likely because people usually see Inspiration as a troll tree. I take Sorcery/Inspiration on a lot of my mages. I also take Klepto on Sona. I think Klepto tends to be highly underrated outside of Ezreal when it's actually really gold efficient if used correctly and you can get a lot of useful stuff from it. Vision wards, mana potion, random amount of gold, etc. There's even that one potion that gives you a skill point. That's basically a free level up without the level up. I notice Inspiration being recommended more lately than it used to be so I'm guess it's finally getting less overlooked. You can even take it for lane sustain by taking biscuit delivery and time warp tonic. However a lot of the recommended builds that are using inspiration secondary are saying boots/stopwatch and cosmic insight which is good too.

Haha, true but I think it might be more accurate to say that people see it as more of the support tree. Inspiration is all about squeezing a little extra utility out of minor advantages.

In my OP I included a side note about taking Hunters Potion. This item is already infinitely gold efficient because it recharges from killing large monsters. You can also take Time Warp Tonic to increase the charge duration and granting you bonus movement speed, making it even more efficient.

You should never use futures market. It actively setting yourself behind.

You didn't even read the post.

I addressed this with 3 points in the post, the most important of which for this specific topic is the synergy with Poacher's Dirk.

Even if you only use FM to purchase this item, and don't use it again for the rest of the game, you are getting a 300% gold efficient item out of it.

That is 750g worth of free stats.

I did read the post. Poachers Dirk is already like super efficient if you can transform it in a timely manor without dying or sacrificing your jungle.

However, getting it slightly earlier doesn't make it any less risky to attempt to counter jungle. It just gives a a bit more time.

Not true. A lot of people will use it for tactically early powerspikes. You just have to be smart with your gold and already know how you're using it. It will only set you behind if you're being stupid with it. What buddy here has thought is not a stupid use for it (though potentially risky since it involves poacher's).

Elite4Runner3 votes

True! In fact, it will only set you behind in gold accumulation if you use it more than 3 times within 10 minutes.

And that is assuming that the items you purchased didn't give you enough of an advantage to accumulate any gold.

Hell, if getting an extra Long Sword is all the difference that it takes for you to last hit 5 additional minions that you would have otherwise missed, that makes up for it right there.

Automated Riven1 votes

It sets you behind 50 gold every time you use it. So for every time you use it you have to gain a 2 cs advantage that you would not have gotten otherwise in order to stay even. More if you want it to be worth it.

Elite4Runner2 votes

It doesn't set you behind every time.

You are spending gold that you haven't even had the chance to earn yet.

In the example I provided in the post, on your first back you have spent 800 gold on your first back when you have only accumulated 640 gold. Even by factoring in the 50 gold fee, you are ahead by 110 gold.

Overuse of the rune diminishes this advantage, but purchasing gold efficient items and making the best use of the early power spikes can absolutely put you in a position to snowball, which is the way most matches are won in the current meta.

Automated Riven1 votes

It does set you behind. Because the second time you 'buy a powerspike early' your only buying it 60 gold early. Because you spent the other 50 gold on air and gumdrops.

And the third time your buying it 40 gold late.

The only way you come out ahead is if somehow you manage to accumulate 3 cs every time you use it which you only got because of your early powerspike

But at that point you can just improve and then the the rune is useless.

Elite4Runner2 votes

Lol, I don't understand your logic. You're acknowledging that it gives you a small early powerspike, and that the use of that powerspike CAN cause you to accumulate enough gold to recover the cost of using this rune... try counting the number of times you miss a last hit by a few health, even very experienced players / pros miss cs all of the time...

And YES, it is a skill dependent rune. Probably the most skill dependent rune in the game at the moment by a mile,... but "getting better" doesn't negate the effectiveness of this rune, it improves it.
