Season 6 Beautifully Summed Up in a Familiar Short Story

You're at work or school. It's an awful day and all you keep thinking about is getting home and 'owning some noobs' on league. Quitting time finally rolls around, you're almost home when you remember that new patch just hit! Now you're really excited. You slap that space bar waking up your league machine, type in your username which is so second nature by now you could perform open heart surgery while typing it in. You slide that 5 button gaming mouse over to ranked... And it hits you like a ton of bricks. "F#%@, dynamic queue..." You spend the next 3 minutes debating whether or not to just play an aram or normal. "Screw that" you say; "I've been waiting for this all day!" You lock in that OP champ you now know better than your own brother, and the magic begins. The game starts, you hit tab, then you see it. 4 of their team has "$Bois" as their club tag. "S!%#, it's a 4 man premade..." it's ok though, you're confidant in your team. You knock out your first few jg camps no problem, and moments later you're flanked from 3 sides at your red buff. First blood. "Well" you say, "no MIAs from any of my tammates but that's ok, I should have warded better anyway. Obviously they all have mics." 5 minutes later, as your bot lane is pushing, two teleports and their mid laner instantaneously show up behind your bot laners. "Wow" you say with a discouraged tone, "that was impressive... Oh right, they're a pre made with mics..." the game continues the same way for the next 15 minutes as you periodically get swarmed by a group of what must be 23 malzahar voidlings that maul off your face like a pack of enraged monkeys who'd just eaten a bowl full of bath salts. Meanwhile your team argues with the intelligence level of your 6 year old sister, who's fault it is that you're losing. You finally surrender in despair while the other team tells you how bad you are and other such witty comments like "EZ, uninstall please." You eventually click the home button and wonder how you'd gotten to this point with league. "What happened?" "I didn't feel this way before?" You hover your seemingly useless 5 button gaming mouse over the dynamic queue button, wondering whether it's worth it to play another. The emotional toll is enough to drive even the most bearded man to veganism. But Its all you've known. League is all you've done for the last 4 years with your free evenings. ... Click

TL:DR The emotional stress of Dynamic Queue and its 4 man premades is enough to make even the most bearded man turn to veganism. Is there a psychiatrist in the room?

I wonder how long until rit0 gets what they wanted and choke on it? The solo queue/OG players leaving the game or hardly playing and all the jersey shore motards filling the game with their premades wrecking the tattered remnants of what was once entertaining.... rit0 knows what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard. Welcome to FAILTOWN, population: rit0.

The problem is not that. The problem is that the new playerbase isn't likely to stick for a long time. They just abuse the ranked system, get their shiny badges and proceed to have fun in Diablo/Overwatch/whatever is coming next.

I think its that the consistent players aren't playing ranked as much now

Pretty much. I'm gonna try out some mages this patch, see how my Syndra feels with her changes, but this is slowly putting the nail in the coffin for me. In all the games I've played this week and last, I would say about 80% of them have three man premades. It sucks so much, I feel instantly disheartened to even bother trying to win.

What does Jersey Shore have to do with League of Legends or its queue system?

Thats right, nothing..You're just using blank ammunition from your emotional handgun.

Go see a shrink.

I was pointing out the character flaws in the casuals... narcissistic and vapid.

You actually kind of struck a tone with me. Man, it's so true. I love this game but I feel myself just slipping away. Dynamic Q actually made 3 of my friends quit completely. Just because we are all on different work schedules, we can't play together, but we will always talk about how far we're climbing in Solo Q etc. Now if you come home from work and get your entire gaming experience ruined by not 1, not 2 but 4 man premade of kids. The game actually feels like a waste of time.

It's like you can hear your mother in your right ear saying "you're wasting your life playing video games!" and you can't even rebuttal, "....but it makes me happy.." . Because it doesn't. The games are bullshit, it IS a waste of time now. Rank doesn't mean anything anymore, Elo Boosting is legal. It's your ability to find a group of good people on league and play it out with them. It's League getting their community to market for them.

It's just such a sad time, League is dying for many grandfather'd players, and we're the ones that made the game what it is today.

last night was like this, i get shit on by constant 4 man ganks botlane and everyone is blaming me on why bot lane was losing, as a twitch player i did my best not to die and farm up but even when i hit my power spike we still lost and post game chat was filled with rage and GGEZ. I immediately closed the game and played the overwatch beta, and I actually had fun. Unlike League of Boosters

"make even the most bearded man turn to veganism."

... Knowing exactly what kind of bearded man you're talking about, are you saying that even though you don't like the changes, you know they're better for you in the long haul? Because scarfing down red meat while claiming veggies are for sissies is hardly better than eating nothing but junk food, so that guy going for a properly diverse diet would end up far healthier.

I think your metaphor could use some work. Or your body could use some carrots, or at least some dietary supplements.

Wasn´t there a Riot post somewhere stating that a solo player has less than 5% chance to be matched with a 4 man premade? Correct me if I'm wrong, but come on: less than once out of 20 games should be possible.

Also, it's not like all 4 man premades are completely toxic. This season I have played with a 4 man premade 4 times (or I didn't notice), and only 1 of them was toxic. Maybe I'm just lucky, but to me, it seems like most people are making too much of a big deal out of it.

TonyBigDïck21 votes

I realistically get matched with with 3 or 4 mans 1 out of 3 games. at least... and nearly every game, if not every game has a duo. which isn't a big deal. And i did see that post about the chances of getting matched with 4 mans. And it was more like 0.15% they said. Which obviously can't be true. Not from my experience. Unless I'm the one guy who gets ALL the premades

Fazuzu3 votes

that was the typical rate for me in old normals, seemed to be around one out of every three matches. sometimes a little less or more, but generally about one out of three on average. I eventually stoppe dplaying normals much becaue it isn't fun like that. That, and once the unfun role calling in normals began, moved me to ranked and the game was better overall after that. even though it was a stressful adjustment since i wasn't used to doing much more than cheese up untilt hat point. I wouldn't be surprised if statistics were ever released, and given honestly (none of us can check to be certain any given stats are legit), that many people not frequently in premades either stoppe dplaying altogether or began playing much less to very little at all. and that most of those people sotpped spending money on it period. even if they still played a little

You've got a statistical bias. It's not intentional, but keep this in mind. The games that are 5v5 solo are average and don't stick out that much. Games that have a 4 man stick out a lot by contrast, so you recall them much easier. solo games blend together while 4 mans stay distinct. That's why they seem like this, because your brain works that way.

TonyBigDïck5 votes

I don't think so, but I am human.

franticFurball10 votes

You've got a statistical bias.

That's not a statistica bias, thats basic math.

A team consists of 5 players. The matchmaking has to complete 4man teams.

5 - 4 = ?

New Garen God1 votes

I feel ya man, the higher I went, the more premades I faced as a garen main, its tough as it is, I get 3 to 4 man dived quite a lot, infact this is the first season I ever remember facing such highly coordinated teams, its fucking bs, I should not be forced to play with a premade, I miss being able to play solo and not be punished by it, that or I get a mute premade on my own fucking team and that's rough on its own. I don't know man, I came close to quits on this game today since playing my favorite champ seems to be so punishing in the current meta in high elo plus the premades, I literally just get so frustrated... I'm like ok, spirit visage lost 15 mr... oh and most of my tank items took a hit since champs that are op as fuck abuse it...

Bruh. You are a gentleman and a scholar

Moriorty2 votes

By the way, you are talking about ranked right? Because for me I would rather mute everyone in ranked, and just use pings. Sure it feels unfair that people in premades can go against 5 people queued solo, however it can make you better at the game. Me though? I do not really care so much about ranked.... I did my whatever-the-fuck-the-first-10-or-so-games-are-called and got bronze 1 and thought "Is this it? A digital medal? and if I rank higher, I get a shiny border on my champion at the loading screen? Not even worth the connection problems and dealing with the weird people playing ranked." GG Rito GG

Your experience is drastically different from mine, and I don't see the humor in "driving the most bearded man to veganism". Is that supposed to be funny? I don't get it. Can someone explain the joke? Or do I have to be a Blitzcrank for it to be appropriately funny.

TonyBigDïck5 votes

Firstly, let me thank you for the bump to my post.

Secondly, according to Mr Sean Archer, a happiness researcher from Harvard, there are 4 daily steps one such as yourself can take to become less miserable.

  1. Write down three things that you are grateful for.
  2. Write about one positive experience in detail.
  3. Send something nice to someone or thank someone when you first open your email.
  4. Meditate for at least 5 minutes.

The name of the game is to try to reach 21 days and see how you feel. He recommends documenting how you feel at the beginning and how you feel at the end. He would also add drink enough water, eat healthier, and get enough sleep from personal experience. What have you got to lose?
