An open letter to the League community, and Riot
Riots tolerance for verbal abuse and in game bad behavior has recently risen to the forefront of League discussions ever since the indefinite ban of Tyler1. These are a few thoughts that I think everyone should consider while taking a step back from their biases for a minute.
As a gamer, I have never been involved with a game that disavowed a player as strongly as league has done to Tyler1, at first it hits you like a ton of bricks, "wow this poor guy can't ever play again?" but upon viewing the issue from a wider lens, you might see things in a different light. Yes all games have ragers, feeders, quitters, AFKers, smack talkers, and the like, most of us if not all of us are use to it. But who are we to tell riot how to run their game? They set the rules, and their rules specifically state that this kind behavior is not tolerated. In my opinion, it is refreshing to see a game stand up for itself the way riot has; almost a breath of fresh air from the constant gaming hate speech in voice chats. It may not phase most people anymore, but its still a nice change.
In the end it is Riot's game and they can choose to run it however they see fit. And if you or I don't like it we can play another game. Riot has always been receptive to player feedback, more so than most any other game I have been a part of. It seems that Riot has clearly stated how they feel in this situation, and it has obviously split the player base. I for one, am glad to see a game stand up for friendly, fun, gaming. Pure and simple. Maybe its not the most popular decision, but its the decision of the creators of the game, keeping true to the way they always meant for this game to be played. Anyway keep expressing your opinions, but maybe try looking at it from the view of someone who has been given the opportunity to play a great, fun game; rather than a shareholder in apple stock.
Keep up the good work Riot.
