@Riot Statikk Why take away Darius's attack speed slow? And why nerf his attack speed growth?

Altricad··6 votes·1,577 views

New Darius is centered around Bloodrage but his abysmal attack speed makes it really difficult to apply 5 stacks in lane. In particular aganist champions that have low CD dashes/escapes Riven Renekton It's gonna be tougher than ever to get 5 stacks to use his ult to full effect

I understand that now his Apprehend - E slows for 1 second and hence his W slow is 1 second, but the attack speed slow wasn't compensated, his attack speed slow allowed him to trade effectively aganist auto-attack reliant champions Irelia Tryndamere Aatrox

Finally, last concern in regards to his passive. Darius is THE presence of the top-lane, the go-to bully when you needed to shut down top-lane hyper-carries Riven Nasus Irelia

And the reason Darius could do that was not only his high physical damage, but his magic damage on his bleed, which meant that starting item 1029 and 5 health potions to lane wasn't as effective since darius could apply his bleed stacks and win trades. Now, he loses that very important edge in lane for an easier way to apply 5 stacks of black cleaver? Harsh nerf to laning. But why nerf the damage then?

Really hope you can respond to this

  1. Attack speed lowered makes it very difficult to get 5 stacks ( and all his damage is centered around 5 stacks)
  2. Attack speed slow on W not compensated
  3. Passive nerfed by changed to physical ( lane nerf) then nerfed by decreasing damage

Stattik already said that the point of his rework was to lower Darius's lane bully power a bit and give him a better late game. The attack speed per level nerf is intentional to make Darius feel like a slow, lumbering juggernaut who has to carefully use his abilities to stack up 5 stacks, since getting 5 stacks on a guy is so rewarded now.

Plus, Ravenous Hydra auto resets. With normal attack speed and two resets in his kit, it's just too easy to get 5 stacks as is.

As for the attack speed slow, Riot has been consistently removing that from kits just like Grevious Wounds. Gragas lost his, Lee Sin lost his. A while back, Riot said that the point of movement speed slows was to tell the opponent "Turn around and fight me!" but having an attack speed slow on the same ability negates the point of that entirely. Having attack speed and move speed slows on the same ability just makes it so a champion without powerful abilities (like Tryndamere, Soraka, or Jax) has no real options other than dying.

Exactly having both allowed Darius to invalid both options for some champions.

Riven and irelia are by no means hyper carries.

Altricad1 votes

Well, when I meant hyper carries, I meant champions that can snowball from just 1 kill and carry the game afterwards. Maybe irelia can't do that well, but Riven definitely can

Riven gets cc she immediately dies just saying so she really isn't that great in team fights as people make her out to be.

so you meant "snowball champions"

They aren't hypercarries, but they still have a good late game. If there isn't anything capable of stopping them late game, such as CC and tanks, then they can in fact be treated as hypercarries. The difference between Irelia/Riven/Nasus and an actual hypercarry is that not even tanks are capable of stopping a late game hypercarry.

irelia and nasus don't have good late games at all. nasus just gets kited and irelia's damage falls off if she's not built full damage. stunbreaks diminish the value of her E massively too. the only reason riven is good late is because she can just insta-kill carries pretty much with her third q, hydra, w, auto, ult execute where it doesn't even matter if you stunbreak it since it happens so fast and the q knockup can't be cleansed.

technically speaking it's supposed to be hard to five-stack a dude.

...

Nevermind that that's already hard enough in league of ranged 100-0 CC burst. Counterplay, don'tchaknow.

Altricad1 votes

Exactly. Even if you land a pull onto someone, you need a good 3-4 seconds with the reduced attack speed to get 5 stacks ( auto-w-q-auto-auto). They also bug-fixed ( nerfed his E) so even more "counterplay".

It's almost as if he's not supposed to 5 stack anyone

"It's almost as if he's not supposed to 5 stack anyone."

Yes. Or, at least not easily.

I mean, HAVE YOU ACTUALLY SEEN THE 5-STACK EFFECT?

He gets:

  • massive AD boost (up to 200, iIrc)
  • the ability to apply 5 stacks with each of his next attacks or Qs
  • maximum damage on his R - which, btw., scales rather well on AD

Basically, getting to 5 stacks in a teamfight makes him go: "I have become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds".

Riven and Irelia are not much of a problem to be honest

Once you get Titanic hydra, a simple Q (blade) + E + AA + W + AA + hydra active combo will net you five stacks of passive, and the opponent should still be close to you because of the 2 second 90% slow.

This becomes relatively easy if you pick up item 3044 , and virtually guaranteed if you get item 3022 .
