Sylas hasn't even been out a week and they are buffing him

Meanwhile there are multiple champions in the dumpster that haven't been given the time of day, OR, if they do get a small chance to get some changes, Meddler only gives the designer a few months to work on them, which isn't enough time to give them good enough changes- cough Karma cough And when we express our disapproval for those changes, Meddler ignores our feedback and decides to keep the changes anyway, further destroying the champion.

But for the new, flashy champ that has the stupid stealing ultimate, they are giving him damage and magic resist buffs.

[slayer-jinx-unamused]

According to AzuBK on Twitter:

"Sylas isn't climbing as well as we'd hoped, so we're throwing him some safe hotfix buffs.

Base Stats Attack Damage :: 55.04 >>> 58 Magic Resist Growth :: 0.5/level >>> 1.25/level

Abscond / Abduct (E) Damage :: 50/65/80/95/110 >>> 70/85/100/115/130."

Clearly shows Riot's bias towards their new, flashy champ that shouldn't have ever been made in the first place. They are throwing him buffs immediately while leaving others in the dust. This is despicable, Riot, and you all should be ashamed of yourselves. Morello would have never let this crap happen, and it clearly shows how the game has gone downhill since he left.

SMH. Rant over.

Sylas entered the game with a sub 40% win-rate in four positions, and is now up to a grand total of about a 41% win rate in two and a 38% win rate in another. He's currently holding the lowest winrate in Mid (by 1.75%), Jungle (by 8.32%), and Top (by 3.43%), which is a great indicator that not only is he low power but exceptionally so. I don't think it's much bias to acknowledge that a new release is under-par even for champions currently under-performing.

And multiple other champions have been left in low winrates for years. They should be priority over this stupid new champ. Just because he isn't over the top broken like they want him to be doesn't mean he needs buffs immediately.

no champion has ever been left with that low of a winrate for years. That said, I do think buffs, especially fairly significant ones, are a mistake.

Hasn't Ryze/Azir/Kalista been less than 45% win rate for over a year now?

he's not at all. people are using him wrong and grabbing bad ults.

give it more than a few days for people to understand what ults are good to grab and he won't seem so bad.

Fermi Paradox2 votes

Just a reminder that they did the same mistake back then with Azir.

He went completely nuts once peple learned how to play him.

SuicidePlank2 votes

We had the same thing with Ornn, overbuffed when released because player couldn't handle him, after the buffs broken for a very long time.

Ummm what ornn was bad so for about 3 patches when the changed his w to max health then he became good.

Yes, they overbuffed the only skillcapped Tank in the Game, so when people realised how to play him he was completly broken and had the thing everyone liked of him removed, got gutted after etc.

I agree on that.

talking 'bout Ornn, Azir was a much bigger disaster

They never give this time do they? Let people learn him for an entire patch before doing anything. This will just end up another Orrn where one small change and suddenly he's 55% winrate and pick/ban because people know how to play him.

The magic resist buff kinda makes sense, mainly because he is a melee champ with only 0.5 growth instead of 1.25 like ever other melee champ (besides Pyke who needs his 1.5 nerfed to 1.25).

Riot needs to nerf Sylas shield and heal more, the base E damage increase is fine. They should increase his Q damage (for better waveclear), lower his W damage.

I also think they need to remove the Ult AD to AP conversion, if Renekton, Ornn, Ashe or whoever can't use their ults to the best of their abilities, he shouldn't be able to use AD scaling ults to the best of theirs.

His W is he survive button. He is an AP Bruiser, with not really specific or good items for AP Bruisers. Let him keep some survivavility please :)

You mean like a shield? (or any ult he can steal that give him heal/HP/shield?)

Dude has a potential base 400 heal at level 9, even at not below 40%, it's 200. If Maokai is at 2000 hp at level 9 his heal is about 200 and he had to build 800 extra HP. Most other fighters only have 1 form of healing or protection, not 2.

Try playing him top, when you gotta melee against bruisers, and tell me later this isn't needed :) W is fine at it is, also is meant to give you a chance to make plays when people thikns you're super low to finish you.

Well when he heals from 10% hp when people would be finally able to kill him, and he then bait heals back to 50% hp, it's pretty toxic. It just means you have to sit there and stare at him with 10% HP and the proper play is to not attack him. What is healthy about that???>>???>>>?

I’m pretty sure that was only one champ out of their champs they may nerf or buff (Akali anybody?), and I was sure you completely despised him in concept before his release. They do this for every new champion, so this isn’t new.

Sure, other champs have a low winrate now, but that’s because balancing them is difficult to achieve through multiple sittings. I don’t think anybody is ready for champions that have Galio levels of balancing.

EDIT: had to correct a spelling mistake

MiracleMorg941 votes

Not every new one, and yes I still despise this piece of crap called Sylas.

No. Not all are because their balance is difficult. It's because of Riot's bias and who they want to keep strong, such as Ryze and his 100,000 reworks, Zed, Yasuo, etc. They don't want to give the time and resources to make the weak ones better, as evident in the recent Karma work- Meddler only gave NeuroCat **2-3 months **to work on her, shot anything down that was worth a look at and only approved a stupid W support change (that was heavily disapproved of), while he lets others work on Ahri and Lux for over a half a year.

It's stupid. It's wrong, and frankly needs to STOP.

The entire team1 votes

Then I don’t know what else to tell you. Sylas may have been cool on paper, but he needs better tools to reach that kind of potential.

Not really the weak ones I would say, but the more popular choices, like the LCS picks, the holiday ones and the ones with the most skins. Riot is a business above all, so they would do to increase playability and sales for those champs. I’m not saying that they neglect the others, but it’s just difficult to do without radically changing their identity completely. But hey, it’s their philosophy. I can’t do anything about it.

MiracleMorg941 votes

They neglect the weak ones, that's a fact. Go look at all the Karma posts about how Riot and specifically Meddler has proven this over and over already. Not to mention other champions but Karma is a huge one.

The entire team1 votes

You’re only using Karma as your only example. Yes, Karma is underpowered now and doesn’t fit the meta right now, because she treads the thin line between midlane mage and botlane support. Before during Ardent Meta, she was one of the top tier contenders for supports cuz of her shield, but now she dropped off cuz of Ardent nerfs.

Just because she is weak now, doesn’t mean she was weak before. Other examples of underpowered champs exist, and were meta before. Olaf was perfect in Season 7 tank Meta (and still is a great jungler), Swain was the best warmage, and many tanks were amazing before Conqueror. They had to be overshadowed with either a nerf or something even better than it, so they are leaving them as is so they won’t be OP again.

Also, do you really think they would put Sylas into the game without any higher numbers? They didn’t want to make the same mistake as Irelia. Now that people realize how to play him and still are underperforming, they gotta buff him to be more effective.

MiracleMorg942 votes

No, she was still a mid laner before her rework, then her failed "mini" rework, and now this. Riot pushed her bot after putting stupid awful shield buffs on her.

Have you forgotten Ornn or Azir? Riot pushed them out underpowered, proceeded to buff them within the few weeks they were out, then when people finally got the hang of them and knew how to play them, all of a sudden they were mega OP and got butchered for it, like Ornn's Unstoppable (if I recall that right) being removed and so on.

This looks the same case with Sylas. Buffing him within a week of release, and soon once players get the hang of him, he's going to be beyond broken. Then comes the nerf bat.

Riot never listens.
