Lucians passive is what makes him so bipolar in the meta

Hes able to abuse on hit items and lifesteal so well with his passive. Which is why item 3153 is core on him right now. He just abuses on hits so hard its disgusting. So if we remove on hits from his second shot maybe hell be easier to balance? Just some theorizing.

This is the first time Lucian has abused on hit builds in the 3+ seasons he's been out. Before this point, it's been either crit or armor pen.

Rainfall2 votes

there is no point on building crit on lucian because of his passive. if they also remove the on hit effect from his passive his build would become linear and boring.

DunkinNoobs1 votes

That's really, really short sighted. He's spent most of his existence building crit.

Rainfall1 votes

because armor pen was crap. Then riot released item 3508 which was the best cd reduction choice for lucian. but now,no there is no reason to go crit on ezreal or lucian.

EDIT:if riot wanted a new approach on lucian they would make his second shot crit and balance around that.

You do know that Lucian autos right? Like a lot? His primary source of damage is autoattacks. There's a reason most high elo players still go PD IE on Lucian, albeit after Botrk and Cleaver.

Pro players go PD IE on lucian because right now lethality items are crap, they fall off too hard to be relevant on an ADC especialy an adc like lucian that is by default gonna fall off, both because of his kit and because he just bought a fucking black cleaver.

DunkinNoobs1 votes

There's never been a point where Lucian ignored crit completely so I'm not sure what your point is. He always gets it, it's just a matter of how early in his build.

Eeyore2 votes

Ummmm... he's never bought crit with the intention of critting. The fact Youmuu's and Trinity originally had crit chance was inconsequential.

He originally built either Blucian or raw AD (either in the form of every Brutilizer item or every Vampiric Scepter item, or a mix of both). Riot then reworked Essence Reaver into a crit item and so he changed his build to support it, but was still largely about stacking raw AD. Then crit chance was removed from all his core items and Lethality got reworked - so he shifted into a the new AD Assassin build (Riot's name for the item rework). He's only recently started investing in more attack speed.

That's legit one of the dumbest things I've ever read, and I read the boards daily.

Misread my dude. He meant "he never built crit to build crit but rather cuz that stat was conveniently on items that had the passives that best synergized with his playstyle, crit was just an added bonus"

DunkinNoobs3 votes

I'm sure he's always just built IE because it has so much AD on it, right?

OyddAWqJ5r2 votes

Obviously not referring to the era of overtuned IE and RNG bot lanes.

Death by Glamour1 votes

So why did he build ie...

Eeyore1 votes

Maybe you don't remember the days when IE and Bloodthirster were the only high-AD items. Essence Reaver was the third high-AD item ever added, before they started bumping non-BF items to 70-80 AD.

Eeyore1 votes

You weren't around for Blucian, then?

DunkinNoobs1 votes

You mean Muramana Lucian? That wasn't a real thing, ever. It was a little troll build people experimented with for a little bit before going back to IE Shiv just like every other adc at the time.

Prospector Pete7 votes

Maybe not completely remove on-hit effects from the second shot, but perhaps half the effects of them. It would allow items like item 3153 to still synergize on Lucian but not be completely overbearing.

AFilthyCaitMain1 votes

Yeah. Soemthing needs to be done about it, because how often he changes in the meta isnt healthy.

sardiniii2 votes

I think that it would totaly gut luican

Marshbouy1 votes

it probably would, but if riot buffed other parts of his kit then it could be beneficial for him in the end.

sardiniii2 votes

I think that giving him more base stats would just loop us back around to the original problem of him doing too mutch dmg, he already has pretty amazing base stats, like if you have ever played against a good lucian who hits lvl 2 first in lane

Marshbouy1 votes

his problem isn't just doing too much damage. It's abusing on hits due to his passive.

Lord Desert1 votes

I dont think so, he still has very good synergies with blackcleaver and DD. And very good ratios. So taking away the onhit part should only gut Botrk on Lucian but not him in general.

I'm told that if I don't build BORK on Lucian and other certain ADC's that I'm a shit player.. but tbh I have never built it on him and probably never will. As an old Lucian main from the first day he came out, he was overpowered (which is why people buy champs on day 1...) but there is more than one way to play a champ. I never buy it because I prefer crit chance, pure damage and attack speed to get the job done if you have good enough mechanics to dodge enemy shots.

That's probably just me, but it seems like there are other items that are better where you don't need to use actives to make a champ overpowered.

nice table1 votes

there are multiple ways to play each champion but there is 1 optimal way to play a champion and for lucian that's botrk rush every game.

Only Play Darius2 votes

What would Master Yi be without the on-hit on his second passive strike? Granted Lucian is ranged and can activate his passive at will as well as chain them together, but such a drastic change could kill off interesting builds or synergies that aren't blatantly abusive like current BOTRK. I would prefer something be done with BOTRK and not Lucian, Riot had the right idea by making it weaker for ranged champs but reverted it sadly, would rather not see a champion balanced around building a certain item in every situation (especially an item not considered a cornerstone of their class). And this is coming from someone who despises Lucian's current state and bans him at every opportunity.

Mecha Incognito1 votes

They could just make on hits follow the same damage reduction on his passive, but a stronger %.

So instead of 40/50/60% damage + full on hit damage it could be 40/60/80% damage for everything.

I think that's clear enough. I'm tired so that could be gibberish.

General Esdeath 2 votes

I think his passive should be like Poppy's, second shot can only happen every X seconds.

Troll for Trump2 votes

I think they need to get some way around him and black cleaver.

At one point, he did get crit, but crit itself wasn't particularly strong on luc; Luc's numbers (esp for a bit after release) were pretty high, and his E had slow removal and shorter cd, among other things.

He synergizes really well with cleaver, alongside other ADCs. Maybe nerf the ADC/cleaver interaction, but especially on Luc.

TeCoolMage2 votes

That's not what abuse means, he's meant to be strong with on-hits as an early-mid game marksman

It's his amount of spellcasts late game (cooldowns) that need to be changed honestly

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

Sounds like a familiar problem child, one that's had this issue since being added . . .

R0XTAR1 votes

But just because he can double on "on hit" passives does not make him broken. That's like me building the old Ghostblade, Rageblade, Black Cleaver, and Bloodthirster at once. I'm weak as shit because I get 2 massive autos in to another champ before I'm dead due to no attack speed.

I'm just saying that doubling on hit effects does not make him broken cuz you have to change your build around it. If you're really arguing that friggen Bork is broken, play Vayne and tell me that her shred of around 12% of targets max health EXTRA on that auto isn't broken. You can't complain about one champ or item being broken when there are other champs and abilities that do the same thing, just a few auto attacks slower.

TwitchInMyPants1 votes

Maybe not even a full removal but it reduces the dmg from onhits like it does with your normal auto dmg? You shouldn't be doing 2 BoRK procs isntantly without attack speed investment so easily. He doesn't have enough dmg to justify the reaver path given how easy cdr is to get thru cleaver and another 10% gives you enough to dash forever. Before his buffs to get him ready for this season his passive was weaker on base and you'd need to abuse onhits like BoRK or Triforce to keep relevant. Still if hes easier to keep at the same power shaving the passive's item syngergy should help.

LordOfTheLeague1 votes

This passive is both a steroid and a "double on hit effects". It shouldn't deals more than like 110% of a normal AA with his 2 autos. It is far too much burst.

Totalis1 votes

have the effects of on-hits be ratio'd at the same level as the ad scaling on the second shot. 40% at level 1, 50% at level 7, and 60% at lvl 13.

Bard R Friday1 votes

It makes him two sided because he shoots two lasers?

tbh I think its the fact that he has an instant dash. One of the strongest things on Ezreal is the fact that he has a blink, but even on Ezreal there is a channel for that blink and lucian has no channel on his dash and it's fast as hell and its on such a low cooldown.

it's not only that, he's supposed to be a shorter range marksman because he has mobility but his dash allows him to already just get into range and ignore the opponent's larger atk radius, then instantly auto for, what was it, 140% auto atk damage, then blast you with decent damage TARGETED skill Q, and then hit you for another 140% atk damage. chances are by now he has already out-traded you, especially early game where there is no real atk speed yet because people have not farmed a lot yet, letting his "caster" like kit ignore needing atk speed to deal the bulk of his damage during the fight, while also aiding the cooldown of his dash. His ult lets him keep moving while channeling that long ass range ability that does tons of damage easily outside any marksman's atk range.

Faustavian1 votes

Bruh, Don't remove the On-hit, just half it for the second hit, like it already does for his damage.
