Safe to assume Riot Games finds ranged top the best and only option for the lane now?

I never got to ask a Rioter named Novalas when we played last week this when I could have because it didn't cross my mind at that time. I've been suffering for a long time against the cancer of ranged top Gnar Kennen Jayce that has all but eradicated most melee champions from the pool, but I've honestly just been patient and used unconventional tactics to blow many of these retarded autists out of the water. That or I just lose badly depending on how dedicated that miserable shithead is to the champion (and not just using it as thoughtless leverage) and move on.

But I've been observing and testing pre-season changes up to the most recent and have simply concluded maybe my time is up. They're severely stripping down all defensive options against champions that can freely AA and impeding the prospect of using teleport to contribute by forcing cooldown reduction into a tree no melee will ever opt for. All the while, they are dramatically buffing champions for simply auto attacking you at a distance through constant benefits for just doing so.

I'm not really going to whine since it's so futile, but what I really want to get an answer out of is if this is simply what Riot sees as the best for the lane and what they encourage as healthy.

For insight reference, I was a D1 player in S6 that has been suffering between D3 and D4 this season most.

You mean melee top laners like Maokai Chogath ?

Its not juts ranged, you dont see champs like teemo dominating top lane.

its just that those champs other than jayce have the combination of bully early game + team fighting gods, which should never be a thing.

Jayce is just so retarded number wise early game that he just WINS lane, hes the least worse of those 3 as he atleast falls off.

Also tanks are still broken top lane along with bramble vest, thats why bruisers cant really be viable anymore, as they have to deal with either those or broken tanks.

I know you're Silver and won't deride you much for that but just know you don't understand the game from my perspective.

  1. Teemo does dominate top lane, it's just he is only played through one tricks and mains and is a rare sight. The same stick applies to Quinn. You can never talk our your ass and claim Teemo is a weak pick other than through someone who has absolutely no idea what he is doing, which is not a thing in the elo I play.

  2. No, tanks are not broken by virtue of never being played top lane. If they are on occasion, the response will be an instant Gnar Kennen Jayce . You can dig through my sad match history and see what I've been up against most of the time.

Im silver? nice try but im actually higher elo than you are atm and you're completely wrong if you think teemo or quinn are good champs.

They are literally only good in the laning phase, and if you actually know how to play laning phase and have a half brained jungler you'll pull ahead after 6 and just destroy them for the rest of the game with any champion that has a gap closer.

Using dorans shield + bushes allow you to survive the pre 6 against those champs.

And tanks + bramble vest are absolutely played and are quite broken against any AD champion that isnt jayce (and jayce gets massively outscaled by them so its his burden to stomp lane).

You are Silver but I'm not really the sort interested in shitting on players of that elo, and just believe perspectives differ on what people see in their respective elo and, with how warped that is, you can't force people to believe you wholly.

Yeah, they are good champions by virtue of being riskless ranged bullies that dictate the laning phase, which isn't a minor deal like you imply. I know Silvers don't capitalize on winning lane but if you're behind as a melee against these champions and lose lane in a more competent setting, they will rarely fuck up to lose everything gained.

Plus, if you were right claiming they are weak even with everything I describe, this is soon rectified by the rune changes anyway that shower them with buffs and zero consequences. The buffs globally, massively affect every champion of ranged AA after all.

Im sorry but if you keep losing games to teemo or quinn you just have no idea how to play laning phase.

Hint : Those champs are garbage after laning phase and are garbage for their team comp.

Believe me Silver player, even post-low Diamond, Tryndamere is not considered an unstoppable cancer pick warranting a must ban and Teemo considered a troll pick if fixated top with summoner 14.

Things become much different as early as high Platinum.

But what I want to educate you on is in higher levels of Solo Q, the game is not slow and this is why the laning phase is so important. A quick, successful snowball into group sieging or 1 3 1 is how it works.

This guy is 100% right. When people say things like ”x falls off after lane phase” that's utter crap because in this meta lane phase happens and then the game is over. There is no mid or late.

And at high gold onwards players group and burst towers fast and end games even faster. In low Elo you can take two towers in 15 minutes and your team will still split up and run around like clueless baboons.

There's very little way to carry or even survive top now as melee. Ranged champions poke you down and tank champions like chogath just walk through you.

For what it's worth Gnar is an instant ban for me even over Yasuo. It tilts me so much he pokes me then jumps away for 10 minutes straight while my jungler AFK farms like a Muppet then Gnar goes on to wreck my entire team because of his tankiness and cc and the fact they don't understand the champions strength....even in gold / low plat.

Bruh Teemo dominating toplane at high levels of play?

lmao

I'm also concerned about the lack of defensive tools for laning. Mirror Shell Iron Skin simply don't cut it. They're not even remotely viable.

I'm not sure if Second Wind is good specifically for melee vs ranged in top lane, haven't had a chance to try it and there aren't any really strong ranged to cancer mains on PBE to play against anyway. However, I suggest look into that. It's the only thing I can see having some impact against lane harass even though the numbers don't look amazing. It certainly isn't strong enough to matter for most champs in teamfights but it might matter in bad lane matchups.

I think the real issue is that melee top's get pretty op when paired with a decent jungler or team because they usually offer more in a group setting. Ranged champed do great 1v1 but usually aren't as beneficial to teamfight situations.

Gnar and Kennen have powerful teamfight ults.

Ranged, manaless, long range poke/safe farming tool, dash or speed boost, and an amazing teamfight ult. That kit is so stupid.

They're pretty good in team fights, but they're not op at all and they lack huge tank mechanics like others have.

Gnar literally transforms into a tank. The only thing that makes him not totally broken is you can avoid him while he has full rage.

Kennen uses hourglass during his ult so who cares?

Anyway the problem is that they are extremely good in lane. They bully most melee and they have very good fallback with their poke and disengage. They can always at least farm. They don't even use mana so they win in attrition too. They have perfect a laning kit.

Then you add a huge AoE teamfight ult and you have a champ that excels in every situation.

Yup. Transforms into a tank. Becomes near unkillable. Can cc. Can burst you. Then transforms back to ranged pokes you and by attacking builds up his mega Gnar transformation again. Can't farm. Can't fight. Can't counterplay. Heck can't even survive under tower v this Champ.
