Twisted Fate quality of life idea - Making the W less frustrating

Ok so TF's pick a card is a strange ability, requiring you to wait to recast it when you accidentally miss the card you want, or if the card you want is the third one. What if instead of needing to recast it, it worked like this:

W - Pick a card: When TF casts pick a card. gains an indicator over his head marking that he's using the ability. During this he can cast Q to pull a blue card, W for a yellow card, E for a red card, and R showing a "white card" that's just to cancel out of it. Depending on what card you picked (except for white card) that card was above your head showing which one you picked.

This way you can instantly choose which card you want, or if you want to cast a different ability, you just click R. For any balance problems maybe give him a short slow or channeling time to pull the card out. Just in case the "waiting for a card" being removed becomes too strong.

That sounds like a pretty clunky and confusing Idea, I much rather prefer the current system, he's not meant to get the card instantly, if you miss the card that you wanted, then thats your own fault and jus tmeans you need to get better at Twisted Fate.

The point of a QoL change is to improve gameplay, not to make everything worse.

Your idea is a little confusing, but that could be attributed to the fact that I don't play TF.

If there was a quality of life change, maybe making it so you still pick the card on recast but turning Q into a single card skillshot that applies the card effect on contact instead of going through whatever they hit would be a little better for unsafe match ups?

To clarify, you could still auto attack the card but you have the option to use Q instead for range reasons.

Would make a lot more sense just to have the first card always be the same one. maybe start it off on a red card for example instead of it being random.

Having to choose your card introduces a delay on the W, and that delay exists for a reason. It gives the enemy more time to respond than "he just pulled out a stun 0.1 seconds before he autoattacked" does. It serves as a telegraph for what is otherwise a short CD point-click stun. That has value. It being an interesting, unique and thematic way to cast a spell is just gravy.

For any balance problems maybe give him a short slow or channeling time to pull the card out.

It has a short delay right now, and that delay is executed in thematic way that is mechanically interesting and can be mitigated by quick reflexes. That seems beneficial to me. I see no value in changing that.

At the very least, it feels better than whatever lockout on recast you would have to introduce to that new W to make it balanced would be, because you're probably going to need a minimum of a 0.75 second lockout if you don't want to alter the balance state (and honestly, 1 second would be more realistic). That would be very annoying in its own way, not just because lockouts are annoying, but because that prevents you from quickcasting a card if you really want to.
