The amount of mastery points you lose for losing the game is absurd

When you do well and put up a good fight but lose because the enemy has done a better job ( Or unforeseen circumstances have occurred) the amount of points you gain is mockingly low, If I have had a bad game and don't get so much then that's understandable, the system is meant to rate you on your performance, but if I do my best, I do well, but we just lose in the end, get a score like S+ and only gain 300 is a major insult, I understand if you lose then you may not deserve as much but sometimes both sides can play equally as well and one side just gets a good team fight off etc, this needs to be fixed and made so if you do well but still lose you don't feel like you've just 100% wasted your time.

TL;DR: If you lose the game but still do well you should still get champion mastery points reflecting that.

Completely off topic: You can do bad and win and still get high points.

Normally I'm not one to care if a post of mine gets upvoted or downvoted but I'd appreciate if you upvoted so hopefully someone on Riot sees this, it's not unlike riot to take in community suggestions.

the mastery system is half assed.

it should compare stats like k/d/a, cs, participation in taking turrets and objectives, jungle camps on the opposing side of the map taken and whatever else would be important to individual performance to the rest of the team, and the enemy team.

win or loss overall shouldnt have a lot of impact on masteries, if at all.

and champion mastery should decay if the champion isnt played for a certain time. it also needs to be completely reset on large scale reworks like firoas.

honestly, i expected champion mastery to be a separate ladder that compares you to other people playing/maining the champion. that would have been more interesting than basically just adding an xp bar to them.

Yep, the current system is pretty lackluster, Riot are working on it though so I hope the attributes they bring will make it feel more rewarding and fulfilling and not so biased towards win / lose.

Yes, I think the system is really stupid.

In all honesty, the scoring seems pretty accurate. When I think I've played pretty well (even if I don't have an amazing KDA to show for it) I typically get S or S+. When I think I've done alright I typically get A or A+. When I think I've done poorly I typically get B or B+. It's been amazingly accurate.

The scoring though - disgusting. I mean, you get X points for your grade. IF you win, you get a time multiplier. How stupid is that? Winning a short game (where you dominate hard and clearly played well) results in way less points than winning a long game where you must have made a lot of mistakes to let your opponents stay in the game (or let them get ahead and force you to come back).

Losing a long game (where you were actually close to winning) results in an obscene amount of time spent for basically the same amount of points as losing a short game where you got dominated and stood no chance.

Points should have been flatly based on score with a flat win bonus. Maybe a small bonus for longer games to make up for the extra time spent playing. So like 300 points for an S, bonus 100 points when your team wins, and a time modifier of #minutes / 20 to multiply. Adjust all requirements downwards to match (basically, 20-25 games at 400 points each should result in mastery, so say 10k points to be a full master level 5).

Like, I thought the whole purpose of the mastery system was to show skill on champions outside of win rate. We already have win/loss statistics. Champion mastery literally adds nothing because it's much faster to get up in mastery with a bunch of long wins and fast losses at the C or B level [i.e. either your teammates were as bad as you and you got owned, or your teammates were good and carried you] than it is with a bunch of short wins and long losses at the S level (i.e. your teammates were also good and you won quickly, or your teammates were bad and you tried to carry them but often couldn't).

I would be okay if it was half points for losing. As it is now, 300 points for losing, or 1300 for winning is absurd

The mastery grading system is weird anyway, especially for supports (for whom KDA and CS should be valued differently anyway).

Monkey D Luffy2 votes

When you're support and get a lot of assists you easily get s+

Kitten of Evil1 votes

Sometimes you do. And sometimes you don't.

I go say 1/7/17 with a 40+ ward game as a support.. We lost unfortuantely , and yet I still get a B+ and 240 pts As if supports don't get enough flack already.. you get to deal with low ass points

Like Solo Q should be based off your performance as opposed to winning or losing a game.

Don't worry, you can go 25/3/10 and lose and you'll still get like 240-300 points

I think it's stupid af that they can even take away mastery points. But ofc riot likes doing things like that.

Monkey D Luffy1 votes

They take away mastery points?

Kitten of Evil1 votes

I think he meant to say "that they can't even take away mastery points"

Which is a bit dumb, if you think about it. You could play 100 games poorly on a champion and still be a "master" because you aren't penalized for bad performance.

Oh I see, yeah make sense, I don't really like the idea of losing points with the current system though.

The amount of mastery points you lose for losing the game is absurd, is the name of this forum. did i misunderstand? honestly i didnt read the full thing. tldr

Kitten of Evil1 votes

He means the points you lose out on (so, the missed opportunity for more points, not that they actually take away points).

iBubbles1 votes

OHHHH well that makes more sense lol.

Mastery points for losing is fine, imo.

~250 points for losing but going 15/4/10 is acceptable. You did well, but not well enough to carry. Should it be higher? Probably.

The problem is that you can go 0/20/6 and still gain 1k points just because you got carried in a 70 minutes game.

Actually, lets also take about the timer. Why the fuck do you get less points for winning early? One time i was Bard, we won in 20 minutes because enemy surrendered, had a S+ grade, 5/0/18 with a Triple Kill, tons of wards and turret participation.

Still got 500 points. Making the enemy surrender/winning early should give more points, if anything.
