IF these proposed IP refund suggestions were to become a reality it needs price adjustments imo

In order to purchase every tier3 rune in the game it would cost 389'916 IP! 40% of 389'916 would be 155'966 or lets just round it up to 156k! This means to purchase the Urfwick skin in of itself you would've have needed to own near every rune pre Season7 AND you would have to forfeit most other prizes for this one limited skin making it a somewhat unrealistic prize imo (unless you are already sitting on a massive amount of IP)

Thoughts on these suggested prices?

the fuck lmfao im getting punished for playing this game for a long time?

SzGamer22712 votes

Punished? No. A feature that you spent lots of time on is now being made accessible to people who have not spent nearly as much time on earning it, which feels really bad but is not punishment. Riot is not taking action against you for your time spent, they're making it irrelevant. It's a kick in the pants either way, but Riot's motivation isn't to punish you, it's to make an integral in-game system accessible to all of its players instead of only accessible to seasoned veterans.

It's not a punishment if something you paid for becomes free to everyone later, it just sucks.

MuffledGarbage19 votes

I dare you to play a game of league without using any runes, since they are a "feature" that isn't needed, apparently.

Rainfall8 votes

i mean if you bought those runes in season 3 you have used them for a good 4 years. i bought runes 6 months ago,i rented them for 6 months for like 10k ip.

Very Hard Engage32 votes

thats a middle finger.

there should be no less than 1:1 conversion back to what we've already paid into the game.

there should only be an even greater than 1:1 conversion for those who have played considerably longer.

just another failure on riots end.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo6 votes

what did you pay for IP ?

Very Hard Engage18 votes

16 rune pages worth.

ofc i never bought things like energy regen or death timer/gold gen.

id estimate only like ~200k (including pages)

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

not what you got with IP but actually $ you paid to have IP

Very Hard Engage17 votes

let me put it this way for you, if you buy a car, and later the car gets recalled for using cheap aluminum, you are entitled to the full refund. in the event your car broke down and you got hurt you get a giant 100000% refund.

they are delibtely trying to give us as little as possible without giving us a giant "lol nope, we dont give a crap about you"

because the last thing riot wants is for players to own all the champs, as thats their biggest RP grab for new players who just want to play the basic game.

yeah skins are up there, but its champions by a mile what new people try to shortcut.

this 40% nonsense is the number that they've come up with as their low ball to really give us nothing back at all.

they are giving us another placebo that you can buy these skins for IP. which NO ONE will be able to afford.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo2 votes

but thats not the same thing for 1.

that is something that you spent real $ on for a product.

and if you got injured in a car that was found to be due to a safety issue that is compensation for your medical cost and suffering

where did you have medical cost, bodily harm/injury and suffering from playing a game that gave you a free in game currency to use on content in their free game , where is the $ you spend for this free content

People value time. People spend their time earning money to acquire things they buy with money. People spend their time earning IP to acquire things they buy with IP. Undermining the value of either one undermines the value of the time they spent on it. One has real-world implications and the other one is not, but the basic principle is the same; people don't like it when something they put time into has its value undermined.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo2 votes

you dont do anything special to get IP you just play the game that you were playing anyways

THE D1C5 votes

Not 100% True. It's been a few seasons but I understood the hurdle of runes in S3 when I first hit 3 and started playing ranked. I invested into IP boosts to expedite the process.

He is a Riot bandwagon. He is saying IP is free, so you don't deserve anything. Just let him praise Riot in all their ways and move on.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo5 votes

so IP isnt free?

how much $ did u spend for your IP? would you like more ? i have about 21k of IP u can have

MysterQ16 votes

IP is NOT free, even if it doesn't directly cost you $$. I would like more, but the XayahRakan event is over. Thanks for offering though, it is really nice of any longtime player to offer up IP like that.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo5 votes

so how does IP cost you?

how much $ did you spend for IP

two very simple questions

Timethief4921 votes

oSEXYPLATYPUSo5 votes

really then your just spending $ right now cuz u took time to make that comment

SzGamer22718 votes

I'd say that those five words maybe cost the guy 5 seconds at most to click in the text field, type them out, and click "Post". Hmmm, I don't think that quite compares to the thousands of hours people spend playing the game over the course of a season, no, not at all. A rather flat attempt at an argument I would say.

PB4UAME15 votes

As a behavioral economist, you and people like you are why I cry myself to sleep at night.

You don't get this whole "cost" thing so hard its just sad. You aren't the only one though, almost 70% of the world fails a yearly financial literacy test (rather, 65-70% of people randomly administered the test fail it in every country its tested on, repeatedly. Despite only needing to show mere competency on just 3/4 of the test to pass) and apparently the notion has gotten into the general public's mind that only money matters.

Costs, by definition, are any resource that must be expended, used, paid or consumed to have a desired action occur. Now, the important part to pay attention to, is that it has literally, truly about fuckall to do with currencies.

In fact, the number one cost to be concerned with is time. Then the oppurtunity cost (what else could you have done instead? How much value might that have brought you?) Then labor. Only after those three huge ones there should one begin to factor in other resources, the least important of which is a direct currency itself. Monies are merely means to ends and are themselves stores of value. There isn't truly a cost paid when it is only currency that leaves your hand; that is but transmutation.

Dr Poro5 votes

Why should we be getting more than we spent? That's silly.

It is pretty logical that the longer you have something, the less you get in return. You've enjoyed usage of your purchase before the price is reduced. I've bought many champions at 6300 that are now 4800 or less. I knew they'd be on discount sooner or later, but I didn't want to wait. Many people are buying new champs for 7800 now just to play them immediately. I have 18 runepages which gave me a significant advantage over others. It will probably hurt to lose this advantage, but I think it's more fair this way. It's not like we're gonig to have to spend this IP on a new rune system. That would be lame. But the way I see it, you now just get free IP to spend on other things.

MuffledGarbage3 votes

You can play league with just the basic champions and get pretty far (5 D1 garen mains, 3 korea challenger Morde mains)

You can't play league without Runes effectively.

I dare you, play a game of league with no runes, it's gonna be miserable.

40%? What

Danjeng11 votes

What about the OG League of Legends: Clash of Fates players? It cost money, back when it wasn't even popular and looked terrible. People put their trust and money into a game by a company that had never made a game before. Then it became free. Where's the refund for those people?

Either way, I don't care if I get my IP back. I'm just glad this old rune system is gone.

La Bello12 votes

those people all have limited edition skins to show for their support.

Human Ryze,Silver Kayle,UFO Corki and Rust Blitz are some of the RAREST skins in the game.

Danjeng11 votes

You can get an exclusive Runebooks skin and borders in this event, so it's not all bad. I mean, grinding out IP isn't all that bad. I am playing a game after all, and having fun in the process. I really don't mind that it's only 40% refunded.

I get that a lot of you don't like that you aren't being rewarded, even though you have been playing for so long. But the reward all along was playing the game with other wonderful people, right guys?...

Commence the rain of downvotes on my corny innocently optimistic statement.

SanKakU7 votes

I guess it could be worse. They could make us pay for new runes and then refund us 40 percent of what we pay for those and make new runes again. That's kind of what Hearthstone does.

PaladinNO11 votes

Opinions was asked, so here's my subjective input: It's a lot, but the dreaded wall of text(™) attempted avoided. ^^

Only 40% IP refund on previously purchased runes? Feels like they're low-balling it. 70% refund, and I could be game.

As for the prices:

The Urfwick cost seems reasonable. Somewhat. I mean, it IS a "high-value" skin (at least the community seems to think so), so I'm having one either way. Though a 100.000 IP price-tag would be...better.

75.000 IP for a Gemstone is a big "NO!". I've estimated the value of 1 Gemstone to about 40 EUR on average, judging by various RP spending streamers, and 75.000 IP is worth more than 40 EUR (~7125 RP, directly translated with EU RP bundles).

Perspective wise (wize?): 75.000 IP = almost 12x 6300 champions (600 IP short). 7125 RP = 7x 975 RP champions (300 RP left over). You should get more value for RP than IP - not the other way around.

50.000 IP for a Gemstone, tops. And frankly, I'm sick of these imposed purchase limits. And personally, I think so far only the Gemstone exclusive ward skin feels like something worth the price anyway. I don't play Vayne, I can't tell the Annie skin apart from some of her other skins, and Darius feels underwhelming and rushed to say the least. But I am a Support main.

On the other hand, "exclusive hero icons" (whatever that is), that is something - if it is what I think it is - I'd be willing to spend more than 3000 IP on. Still, at 3000 IP, I'd get a few. But I'd be willing to pay 5000-10000 IP on such an icon to "show my devotion" to certain champions and appreciation for certain skins (if skin splash icons would also be available).

The Rune skins: I dunno what happened to the previously mentioned Runelord Volibear (not to be confused with the existing Runeguard Volibear), but without at least seeing what the IP exclusive border looks like first, it does feel like sort of a rip-off. Especially as all of those skins are fairly old. Exactly why I don't have any of them, though the Volibear skins has tempted me on occasion. At 35.000 IP, I'm having it anyway, but 20.000 IP would feel like a more reasonable cost for a 975 RP skin (~10.000 IP for the Skarner skin - there should be a "cheap" option too).

Runeguard Volibear RP 975 / 30-Apr-2013

Runeborn Xerath RP 750 / 05-Oct-2011

Earthrune Skarner RP 520 / 09-Aug-2011

Rune Wars Renekton (made legacy - and thus oh-so wurf - due to its oldness) RP 975 / 01-May-2012

As for the Mystery ward skins and icons...yeah, I'd spend quite a bit on some of those. And I already got a list of Chromas I want (so far, 26 of them). Prices seems reasonable.

Lastly, I got a suggestion of my own: A new IP exclusive skin to celebrate.

"Stay awhile, and listen."

Considering some factors, time passed, time since last skin, skins total (5 in this case, + Classic), the meme-value and roles that has gottten skins lately, I suggest...

Runelord Zilean

His last skin was back in 2015 (Blood Moon). There are no skins currently or recently released for a Support.

This would be a commemoration of those of us who has been here for a long time (and Zilean has been around long too - one of the original 20, in fact - and "he's an old man now").

Q: Spews out the icons of runes upon detonation (after all, they are getting removed soon). E: Uses the image of a random quintessence as clockface. R: (Well, this one's a given - and has meme value) use the icon of the quintessence of Revival (seriously, who has used this rune, ever?).

Dress him up a bit. Like one of those poker-players, whose suits are covered in cards, we'll get a robed Zilean, covered in various runes.

This skin doesn't have to be a complicated one. Tech-wise, 750 RP / 975 RP equivalent, tops. But only available for IP. 50.000 IP, 100.000 IP, 150.000 IP, whatever. Maybe free, or even limited, to those who has been here for 3-4+ years.

Personally, I'd much rather have this than for example Earthrune Skarner with a fancy loading border.

Solavis10 votes

This honestly seems like a lot more than I expected to get. The prices do seem steep but I'm not gonna complain about them improving a component of the game. I'm not losing anything on massive number of runes and pages I purchased. I'll still have access, just to a new system. But yeah, I think the prices could be lowered.

And I would really, really like to be able to buy keys and chests with IP during this event. I'd rather dump my IP that way personally. opening chests is fun.

LostFr0st8 votes

They never said you could ONLY use the ip you got from the rune refunds...

A ton of people from back then probably have 150K iP just laying around.

Steelflame5 votes

I've got 55k ATM, on top of all the runes and rune pages IP and champions too.

Before the 'recent' chroma sale, I had 150k.

I can easily get the next 3 champions without spending a single point of IP thanks to shard re-rolls.

For me, this event would be "Grab your free skins with your depreciated currency" that I would be happy to get.

Kikirino7 votes

For those freaking out the 40% is just one number you are seeing. Some have screen grabs of the same images with 60% instead of 40%. Frankly, anyone expecting 100% IP refund just has unrealistic hopes. While I would think anything below 50% is on the cheap side 40% is better than nothing.

KawaiiShroom6 votes

Looks like I can only afford like 4-5 icons if the ip depreciate 60%. I wish the runes didn't depreciate.

TwitchInMyPants6 votes

Why only 40%? There's people that rented these runes for like a year and they're losing a lot of value. I know Riot doesn't want to give tons of free content but can't we get a conversion like 60-100%? We got the same value out of the rune system and we had to change runes based on meta game, its the same IP levels spent. I don't care about buying skins with IP but this means that my friend who started playing last year is going to get a full RP refund on rune pages which were basically necessary to play after lv30 and I get less than half a refund on that and every rune. Weird af logic.

GreenLore5 votes

Overall I think they should at least refund 50% IP,because otherwise it just feels bad since you don't even get half of your ip back.

And selling Urfwick for an absurd amount of Ip actually sounds like something that they should do permanently to give people something to spend their ip on.

Reaper Soraka5 votes

I think urfwick is intended for people who have been around forever. I don't think it was intended to be a reasonable price for those who started much later.

I'll probably just go for icons and chromas myself. Edit: I mean hero icons. I don't want flash wolves 2016 icon or whatever garbage they give from the randoms. Too many team icons to make that one worthwhile. :(

Kowaii4 votes

I just joined this game in January, so Im still getting runes and champs but 150k IP for URFwick? Owch. I understand they want only certain people getting it, but for people like me who casually play on and off that's absurd D:

SzGamer2275 votes

URFwick isn't supposed to be something that anyone can get. It's a special reward for people who have spent years and years playing the game. It's taking the extensive amount of IP that they spent on earning runes and giving them an exclusive item they can buy in the stead of the old runes system.

People are mad because something they spent TONS of time and money on is being made accessible to everyone for free. Letting just anyone buy URFwick would defeat the purpose of the gesture.

ChaoticPinecone3 votes

I get this, and I appreciate this. But when youre only refunded 40% for IP spend before S7, its very likely that people who dumped a lot of IP on runes still wont be able to get URFwick.

For example, I have collected 75 of the possible 98 sets of T3 runes. If the OP's sources are correct, I needed to spend 389,916 IP to collect the whole set. The runes I dont have cost a total of 123,000 IP (9 sets @ 820 IP, 7 sets @ 410 IP, 3 sets of quints @ 2050 IP, 4 quints @ 1025IP). So I spent 266,916 IP on runes. If I get 40% back, I'm getting 106,766 IP. I'm still short 44,000 IP from getting URFwick, and I like to think I actually have more runes than most people do.

Edit - and thats not including the probably 50k or so spent on rune pages.

this is just a sink for players like me and son on that sit on 450k IP because simple we have every god damn rune and rune page....and champion...

and there is literally 0 things to buy so finaly an IP sink...

I know it sucks for people that wouldnt be able to buy it but if you dont have IP it mean that you spend it on champions and runes so you dont need skins you still need to fix your champion pool and runes...

Jerry SeinfeId3 votes

N0.... Why would i need any champion i don't want. people barely trade in champ select anyway. I'd rather have skins i like than champs i don't.
