Here's why Riot nerfed Veigar

  • Veigar was a FOTM pick - a very popular one - in the Korean pro scene.
  • Popular because he was actually effective in shutting down big plays by the more flashier champions.
  • Veigar changes are later announced as 'compensation' for the removal of a core item.
  • Veigar is absolutely gutted. Specifically, his flashy-play shut down ability; Event Horizon.
  • Meddler later comments that they actually made the change because "can you guys imagine if Veigar was a popular pick?"
  • Massive, and probably the largest, community outrage over a nerf ensues. Riot still continues with the nerf.

Seems reasonable to suspect that the reason Veigar was nerfed was because he threatened Riot's LCS highlights. This champion has been overlooked for years. Rarely played, rarely talked about. Suddenly he shows up on the pro scene and threatens the entertainment model and then subsequently gets nerfed.

I agree with you. The main reason why veigar was nerfed is that so the meta didn't change on riot who are enforcing the current meta hardcore.

If veigar is allowed to be un-nerfed then the pro scene might change into less Mobile longer range champs to try to deal with veigar and champs like him(Riot would have a heart attack if cho also became popular with veigar which would mean all their BIG$LCS$PLAYS that they want would be nae impossible).

If veigar is allowed to go un-nerfed it would have changed the meta and could have killed lee/zed because if a bunch of anti mobility champs became popular(veigar/cho) then those champs would fall from grace without even getting nerfed(as a zed I DARE you to try to kill a good veigar or cho I DARE YOU!).

That happens to be true.

But when the only Mage who can potentially have infinite AP, finally becomes a good pick in Competitive play

Not because he can have ∞ AP but because he can abuse a broken ass E.

Also, he punishes people for building damage.

He punishes people for being ahead.

How retarded can that be?

Inb4 downvotes.

Oh the Koreans finally broke the meta and picked up support viegar huh?

Used that noise to get gold in season 3.

Still not as cancerous as lee sin or CertainlyT as a designer

Makes perfect sense. Riot's been pretty transparent for years about balancing the game based on making sure streams and tournament videos remain fun to watch. They care more about the spectators than the game itself.

it wasn't a nerf, they just made him harder to play, you now have the potential to get nearly twice as much ap with his Q, which is harder to land as well as his E.
