Can we go back to designing good champions?

I get it. When a champion does a thing and does it well, everyone's gotta get up in arms. However, after Neeko and Sylas, I'm really fucking tired of champions that are 100% gimmick and 0% substance. Say what you will about certain kits that people hate on constantly, but I liked kits like Camille, Irelia, Poppy, Galio...kits that are designed with a clear game play goal in mind and a niche they're tailored to. I'm well over champions that drop and just...exist, then fade into nothing.

Like, really, what is the point of Sylas? "He's the ap fighter champion!" Besides the fact that this is a stupid move to go for without proper itemization for it (hence our issues with Diana), they tied this niche to the worst ult possible. The ult...why? WHY? It makes 0 sense for a guy like Sylas as far as his game play goes since the ult of the champion he jacked from has the chance of simply not meshing with Sylas's game plan, and this issue is on top of having really shitty itemization. Even if you wanted to make "the ap fighter of League", why is this ult even here? What do we accomplish with this champion? He's built like a burst mage, goes into melee range, gets his jaw rocked and his hp bar shook, and he dies, because half of what he does can be a total mismatch for the OTHER HALF of what he does. Why? It's like you guys had two dudes design two totally different things and just slammed 'em together without letting them know.

Then there's Neeko. She's basically just a spin on Lux's "aoe clear move + root move + low cd burst ult", except the ult's a bit like Amumu's ult. Sure the kit can exist and be a lesbian, but outside of liking the quirkiness of Neeko (the writers did the best work here)...why do we need Neeko here? You could just be another burst mage with more reliable lock down, more reliable burst damage, better scaling, or a mix of those features. She doesn't feel like she brings much to the game that expands the depth of the game. Just another totally inconsequential character. She was made, people tinkered with her, and it's back to Malzahar mid or Zed mid. I rarely even see her anymore. Her game play is just more of what we already have. Why bother with her?

And don't get me started on reworks like Yorick and Warwick. Just not even gonna do that rn.

See, I like champion kits that accomplish something. Even the Xin Zhao rework was a great piece of work if you ask me. I like champion kits that give a reason for me to look their way in a strategic sense, and kits that shake the game's development up a bit, like how Poppy's anti-mobility W shaped the next few new abilities that came out (Cass W and Tali E). I don't like new kits that arrive in the game and just "fizzle out". I'd rather have a great kit that's a balance problem for a few months than a shit kit that nobody cares about as it fades from the public eye. I get that Riot's probably too scared to be ambitious with champion kits due to the backlash people give them with a kit comes out and it's too strong, but can we NOT be so scared that we keep getting limp dick shit like Sylas?

Like, come on. We have a WHOLE DAMN VGU dedicated to giving Morgana a MS boost on her ult and putting Kayle's E on her passive. I'm so tired of not being excited for new champ kits. Everything's so safe now and it's making you guys release these really crud kits that do nothing but give LS fodder to fire at on the LCK.
