Buffing Essence Reaver

Right now no one buys Essence Reaver. Would more people get it if it cost 3000 and had +25% base mana regen added?

People don't build it because the build path is odd.

Honestly its a failed item idea. Most characters that want to build that item don't have mana problems by the time they spend the 3k+ gold on it.

Nerf bluebuff to the ground, watch even AP rush this item....

I love the idea of the object and rush it on Jinx/Sivir if I am not behind. I love being able to spam abilities and rockets.

But I'm pretty sure it's too weak vs I.E. to rush, despite its lower cost. I do it anyway, but I'm giving up a lot of power for some additional sustain/waveclear/safety. And mana regen is generally less useful mid-lategame.

I can think of a few things that'd help encourage its purchase as the premier "AD Caster Item"

  • Remove the lifesteal, replace with something else - possibly as below. I get it for mana, not health.
  • Add "Spellvamp" for Physical Damage spells/effects only
  • Have a mid-way item, so you can have AD + mana regen in the laning phase.
  • Add +10% CDR, with maybe a 100g increase in cost.
  • Add armor pen, increase cost or drop lifesteal

It's great in theory but by the time you build it the laning phase, which is when you really need it, is beginning to break down. Seems like it's pretty close to me but just isn't quite there.

Edit: I don't think making it cheaper would be the way to go. It's not necessarily too weak.

Compared to item 3031 : They have the same + AD (same + spell dmg). I.E. provides +30% AA dmg for 600g more. E.R. provides CDR, the passive and lifesteal.

600g is worth about 12% crit or 20% attack speed.

So the decision as your first item can be broken down to +18%/10%^ AA dmg vs +10% lifesteal, +10% CDR, + mana regen ^18% when the 600g is used on crit, 10% if used on attack speed

One of the issues is that I.E. is a better purchase as the game progresses, E.R. is less useful as the game progresses. The +50% crit damage boosts the value of all further crit purchases by an absurd 50%. E.R. however is less valuable as mana concerns are less of a problem as the game progresses.

Another issue is that every AA ADC wants +crit and + AD but not all care about the lifesteal or CDR

TL;DR:

item 3508 in most cases competes with item 3031 item 3508 is cost effective and useful vs item 3031 but begins falling off by the time you purchase it item 3031 improves in effectiveness as you build more crit, item 3508 IMO needs a small boost that helps it stand out from other items without making it better than I.E. in straight up mid-lategame combat, where I.E. should shine (it's a ball of stats!). See above bullet points.

Does anyone build item 3072 anymore?

ER isn't bad statistically, even winrate with bork, but it's 5% below BT in winrate. That's significant. In D&D terms it is sort of like BT is a +2 sword whereas ER is only +1.

My biggest problem with it is unlike BT or Bork is ER doesn't give quite enough for most people to justify using it. Many AD champs don't have mana issues outside of lane. Even those that do have other priorities. ER solves an early game problem for a mid game cost and that's its big issue.

I agree, vamp scepter and Bf sword together magically create a item that has 10 cdr and mana regen which wasnt on either item path. I wonder if the recipe should be BF sword + forbidden idol then have these stats:

80 ad +50% base mana regen +10% CDR UNIQUE Passive: Your basic attacks restore mana equal to between 2% and 8% of the physical damage dealt, based on your missing mana.

So 1500 + 600 + 500 = 2600
