NEW STAT: Relinquished GOLD. Now you know you suck!

Occams Raiser··64 votes·4,430 views

I see people going for kills. They trade kills getting a few only to get shutdown. People die 3 or 4 times to drop a tower. Just put the new stat some place visible near gold earned and at the end of the game so people can see what kind of a detriment they are and why their 13 kills doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of victory. You gave away 20k to the other team, (Wonka meme) tell me more about how you carried us with your 13 kills.

This also totally fails to take into account engage tanks that are going to die almost every fight to make their team win.

It also fails to take into account where that gold is going. Yeah, you might have died, but if you are playing Katarina and are killing the enemy carry and then dying to their support you are coming out ahead in value because 300 gold on Kat is worth waaaay more than 300 gold on a support.

Lots of deaths does not mean failure. Meaningless deaths do. But there is no way to separate them without a huge amount of context.

Occams Raiser2 votes

I responded to your point a down on someone elses comment. It does take into account Support deaths and the counter balance of team fight engagements. It would also be a tool to help supports maximize there effectiveness on who to focus. I have seen people go after an adc that has 1/11/0, passing on the truly fed person in the group. The adc just finished boots and shiv at 20 minutes. Why in the hell are you still hooking him (first)? He is worth 50 gold! Is there another level beyond SHUTDOWN that I am unaware of? Anymore shutdown and his game will uninstall ITSELF.

OyddAWqJ5r4 votes

Takes into account assists though. And if the tank does well and the team follows up, even if the tank dies 5 assists are still worth more.

Byrnes1 votes

Yeah but, every stat has this "but..." to it. Doing most damage to champions doesn't mean you were a positive force in the team winning or losing, should we remove that stat because it can be interpreted different ways or accept the fact that all stats are tools?

Drunk Rummate10 votes

a big aspect that total deaths doesnt show is shutdown gold. a lot of people dont seem to understand why it's worse for your midlaner to go 5-5-0 than it is for your support to go 0-5-5 (neither is good, just making a point)

YOU BEEN WARNED8 votes

Not really, if you're Katarina Akali Fiora for example, it's 100% worth to die 1 for 1.

sometimes 2 for 1 even, so long you get the kill and carry with it.

Adrian Umbra6 votes

It depends. Some snowbally champions can make up for the fact that they ARE giving the enemy team a steady stream of gold and carry their team against their opponents using the gold they pick up from kills. Sometimes the stacks of gold that you're giving out add up and the one that killed you over and over again has become a monster who bursts you down and then scythes through the rest of your team with ease.

Many people who use this argument do forget that a kill plus assist is more valuable than just a kill, sometimes spreading the gold around and bringing back opponents who were previously shut down. In general, it is better to survive another day than die for a kill, no matter which champ you're playing.

Occams Raiser6 votes

MY man! You said it all. I knew we needed this stat. I was in a game with a fed KAT. Between our Wu Kong, my Heim, and this vision, we made them quit QQ to GG. She started out 11/1/3. 6 minutes later 11/11/4 Don't trade kills with people that have your hard counter.

Fed Kat, phft. What, you got no hard cc? Shame on you.

AMYS GRAVE3 votes

If you are going into the enemy team and get 2 kills, they probably got several assists, so it still isn't worth it.

Occams Raiser4 votes

I can see you get it. The only thing better than My Idea would be an alarm that goes off when a team comes out on the losing end (gold) of an engagement. I don't know what the announcer would say but it should be something condescending.

YOU BEEN WARNED2 votes

I'd like a gold alarm, it's a good indicator of what's going on and it will tell if a team sneaked baron or something.

YOU BEEN WARNED9 votes

Aside from assist streaks (which require you to have 2 more assists than kills,) 1 assist gold is like 4 assists.

For reference, this is how assists work.

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Assist

AMYS GRAVE3 votes

You killed two targets, assuming they aren't on death streaks you get 300*2 = 600 gold, but you die. Assuming you aren't on a kill streak (which you likely are because of how awesome you apparently are) you give 350 +175 (assist gold)+ 60*2 (their support and jungler are on an assist streaks because they have teamwork) = 645 gold. You gave them more gold than you earned even if you weren't on a kill streak and they weren't on death streaks.

any way you put it though, it's 0% worth to die 1 for 1. You are just creating a fed monster on the other team that you and only you can deal with. So when your teammates die to them, it's because you went 1 for 1 and fed them.

YOU BEEN WARNED9 votes

It's 100% worth because your champion snowballs harder, I could give much less of a crap about 235g going to Thresh or 350g going to Xerath if I'm Katarina because this item 3108 ( which I earned from the 2 kills ) will eventually lead me to burst them/their teammates who did not buy MR.

Katarina damage -----> 5 people , say 2 of them got gold and bought MR with it, I still deal the bonus damage to the 3 others.

It all comes down to using your gold effectively, if anything.

Edit: to clarify the image, if you are Talon and your lane opponent Ahri bought item 3191, if you swap lane immediately with your top lane Chogath, your lane opponent Ahri just wasted a lot of gold and put themselves in a disadvantage.

Carry champions/damage dealers however, are always relevant because damage will work on everybody.

There is more to the game than gold value, not to mention the MMR of players in the game. If I know the enemy player has lower skill than me (lolnexus, lolking, op.gg), I will definitely trade kills. If I have lower skill than most of the enemy team, I will not trade kills.

AMYS GRAVE3 votes

To say that you can carry harder is a very selfish view, and will leave your teammates in the dust when you go 20-20-5. Ask any high level player what the first thing you should do to improve and they will say "dont die" because the most important thing to climb the ladder and win is to have fewer deaths. Also, giving gold to the enemy thresh support who buys locket will screw you over more than your AP will screw them over. If you don't die you can take objectives. Objectives > Kills.

YOU BEEN WARNED8 votes

If Hashinshin is there and the main difference between him and Dyrus' Jax is that Hashinshin dies more, I'm pretty sure both playstyle are viable. Don't go forcing people to agree with your beliefs because of bandwagon, improve your argument.

Objectives > Kills goes both ways; If you and the other guy both are dead, neither of you can take objectives.

acepil0t2 votes

350+175+60=672? I'm not sure you are using the same math I am using.

AMYS GRAVE2 votes

whoops, i had considered several situations that this could take place in before posting, but i changed the left had part of the math without changing the answer.... i fixed it now, my bad... :P

Mandang04 votes

Well, I think it's a good idea, and it'd help players realize the effect their playstyle has on the game. Even if it is somewhat redundant with deaths, I think seeing a gold value might drive the idea home.

Occams Raiser2 votes

Thanks I think it is separate cause in the heat of battle it is easy to feel every kill and death is relatively even. Then I get to the end of the game and look at my stats. Why is my teammate 1500k richer and has 2 levels on me. He was killing carries and I was killing scrubs. Our cs is the same (I might even have a little more). Compound that with him having 3 deaths and you have 6. Both under feed limits, but if you were wrong about your kill gold.... who did you give that death gold to?

vC48YNoGbJ3 votes

LMFAO this idea is so good. There are plenty of games where I literally have the most damage output (ESPECIALLY in Aram) and people talk shit because they have the highest kda cause they are melee champions like Fiora and Akali who dive in last sec for the last hit and contribute nothing else.

Quort3 votes

The last thing we need is another stat for our teammates to rage at us! I can imagine the people that will look at a support that died five times and say: "Omg, what a noob 0/5/303257687619 Soraka, gave the enemy 1500 gold! Report for feeding pls." D:

Occams Raiser3 votes

It is a mirror to be put in the face of pride and arrogance. It just so happens that it is also an effective tool for shutting people up as well. It is a learning aid like any other stat.

Quort1 votes

Well, like anything I suppose it has its benefits and disadvantages. And toxic peoples will be toxic anyways sooo... yea! I'll back this up! It'd actually be a pretty cool stat to have when I think about it.

Occams Raiser1 votes

Tentacle Love2 votes

But a support that goes 0-8-20, and ensures that all of those deaths are at the hands of the enemy support, Braum, and that each one set up a double kill for the ADC?

Is that really a detriment?

"Braum not understand why Ashe is doing so poorly. Braum's Muscles are so strong, he does not even need wards!" Braum's relinquished gold stat is so low!

Occams Raiser2 votes

You know the answer is no. If he has no kills his deaths are worth a fraction of his adc. and it is counter balanced by team fights. If some one has aoe damage, including the supp, They get assist multiples for all of the deaths during a team fight. I think this is the point I am trying to make. People don't think about these factors. He is a great team player.

I would still have to wonder about the overall execution between him and his team when it came to why he is still dying in team fights by his 6th death. I play Naut and Leona and start to walk out of fights with a "mic drop" by my 4th death. I think if a tank is 0-8-20 there is something else afoot and will come out in relinq gold.

I GONNA FK ON U2 votes

Yes please. A person I play with keeps going glass cannon J4 and blames everyone else for the loss as it can't be his fault, no. The J4 with the most deaths who manages to take all the team's kills was definitely doing all he could to carry.

Uiru2 votes

While I like the idea, there is a difference between a wasted death and a meaningful death.

I've gone 10+ deaths as Evelynn where nearly all my deaths resulted in a won teamfight. (And I have done the same, without the second part. Didn't win that one.)

Of course, the first situation is likely to generate lots of assist gold which should mitigate the relinquished gold.

I don't think it'd be too strenuous to generate a "death report" that simply includes all farm, tower, dragon, kill and assist gold, plus whatever you were worth given away when you died, since your last death. You could even have k+a total and k+a recent (the last 20 seconds or so) so you know if you got caught or if you were properly baiting. (Well, not completely properly, but a won teamfight is a won teamfight.)

People simply don't believe that they could be at fault, and I think this would help deflate some egos.

End of game could have a graph with amount per player earned, amount per player given away, and a sum. You don't want to be in the red if you're the one doing the flaming, do you? ~Uiru

Uh... having a high number of deaths indicates you're doing poorly. And it's also the only way you directly give opponents gold (unless you want to count Yorick ghoul CS, or Heimer turrets, or Azir towers). I don't see why this is necessary.

My guess is it's for people who go 13/11/8 as opposed to 7/5/8 to show why the second is better than the first. Usually the ratio gives you a pretty decent idea, but if it's a 10/10 versus a 5/5, 10/10 was more of a detriment to his team than the 5/5 (gave up less kills).

Kitten of Evil3 votes

True, and it would also matter how the deaths happened. Did the person go 1-for-1 every time, thus resetting his gold value to 300, or did he go 2-10 before taking 8 kills in a row?

Occams Raiser1 votes

Indeed.

Nasus summoner 12 summoner 6 , tell my wife I loved her.

Tanks are meant to die.

Occams Raiser5 votes

Tanks are meant to take damage. At the end of my game, I expect no more than 6 deaths. Even as a tank. That was funny though.

Bresn1 votes

Depends on your champion.

Darius Pantheon are suicidal due to no escapes. Braum has the ability to leap to allies. Nasus has CC, AoE ult with health that allows him to run away but still generally suicidal.

Unfortunately, the kind of people that this would help have a warped idea of how they perform in each game. They don't read the stats at the end of the game, or put the blame on themselves. Even if they do, they'll say to themselves "Wow I gave up 5K gold to the enemy mid because their jungler ganked and mine didn't".

I would love to be able to see gold from minions/champions/objectives in separate categories though.

That's closer to the mark but still not quite there.

If someone really wanted to know how badly a player was doing, they should attach the kill gold to the purchases made, to show the real consequences.

For example:

You played Syndra. You died 3 times. Your first death was a shutdown, providing 800 gold to the enemy carry because they got no assists. This was used to finish Infinity Edge, which set off a chain reaction that led to the enemy carry's pentakill, a whopping 2300 gold in hand all said and done. Afterwards, the enemy team secured Dragon 3, Baron, and all of your jungle. Minions pushed down three tier 2 turrets uncontested. A player on your team initiated a surrender vote and went afk. Your adc went full tilt, and in their rage, caused their spouse to walk out on them. This would later lead to them having a bad day at work, and an act of disrespect towards a foreign dignitary. This would lead to war.

In your next game we recommend sticking closer to your teammates and not engaging until you have more support, even against enemy squishies. Also use your freaking trinket.

Then why do people get flamed every time they make a KDA thread? Like, "my kda is good but i'm losing games". They always say kda doesn't matter. What you are saying is that it is very very important since the only way to give gold is dying lol.

Occams Raiser2 votes

Nope. kda is important. But it's spelled kDa. Who you kill is important. BOT lane ex: Kill whoever you can first without dying. Next kill the adc preferable but support is good too. Adc will back off from cs when his support is gone anyway. 3rd Work on who hasn't died. He is worth more gold. THINK: If Soraka or Nami gets a couple of kills after you kill the adc, what is she going to do with those ratios. Not push a tower early to mid.

It is Important to prioritize who you are giving gold to and where are you focusing your efforts to extract gold.

PS. Notice I didn't use Sona as an example of who to give kills to.

Nucleophilic atk1 votes

Trust me, I know KDA is important lol. For some reason, I get teammates who flame me as the adc because I'm 2/1/7 with 200 farm at 30 mins. "Noob cait" because I don't dive them. They don't understand that they have been trading kills and now the 8 kill Irelia is going to make my life hell. League needs to do a better job of teaching players.

not needed and winning and losing depends on strategy - you can also see gold values and it is pretty easy to tell how much gold you grant someone

Occams Raiser2 votes

That would seem true of every end game stat. Yet they show it. You might be intelligent. Others need it spelled out. I personally see no need for damage dealt. Do you look at that stat and say "good thing I saw that. Note to self next game, deal more damage." Is there a butt load of damage you are passing up on and this will let you know where the hole in your game is? I think it would be quite the eye opener. It would help with strategy cause many out there apparently think 10 deaths is ok as long as you have 15 kills. They think they carried.

MyGhettoFantasy1 votes

Your win/loss bracket determines the relative significance of your KDA and whether or not it is a winning/losing KDA. If I win 60% of my games with an average kda of, say, 4-15-20 and you lose the majority of your games with something like 18-4-12, it is not me that needs to improve their kda. Keep in mind that improvement means that the numbers in your W/L columns adjust favorably.

Occams Raiser1 votes

I don't know if you are agreeing with us or not. All the info you gave doesn't contradict anything spoken so far. What you are talking about is team ability. Since most games are random, basing your personal development on team ability with random factors doesn't say as much to your personal performance as you think.

If one player has a successful average of 4-15-20 and another has a failing 18-4-12, that actually doesn't say much about either of them as it pertains to pushing objectives, teamwork, and communication. But I bet I can tell which one you would rather have on your team. And this is despite the possibility that both teams are winning in spite of these two players.
