Riot needs to address the Winston in the room

So overwatch just added the ability to role queue. Okay, better late than never. Not that people want to play with my terribad D.Va and Mercy skills, but at least it's better then me on some other heros. Then I notice this little blurb:

To help incentivize a more even distribution of players across all roles, players who queue for roles that are currently in high demand may get a reward.

Hello, riot? Got something to say about this?

People have been complaining about autofill for years. Some roles are just more terrible than other and people just don't want to play them any more. Being forced into top or jungle isn't going to make people want to learn it or care about it. How about you admit that blizzard wins this round and if a role is in demand enough that you have to start auto filling people others, you turn on a system where people can get a rito loot box, or a 1-in-10 chance of getting a loot box if they earn at least an A- for the game? Win or lose, as long as they git gud they have a chance to get free loot. If anything this will encourage people to want to play those roles and would result in a healthier queue. Note this doesn't go for the normal limit to one box per champ as you are trying to get people to play the role.

So instead of forcing people to play with someone who checked out the moment they got autofilled, players will get people who see that possibility of free loot if they do well actively queuing up in an in-demand role.

Blizzard upped the ante on you guys. You can't ignore this.

That used to be part of a feature called Team Builder. It allowed players to queue the roles they want with the champion they wanted. At the same time posts the most in demand roles for players wishing to get into games faster.

It was a neat feature but it did have it's downsides.

  • It was blind pick only so no bans.
  • Players that wanted to play something outside the meta were quickly dismissed, lets say brand support?
  • It was common for junglers and supports to be quickest to match, with the other 3 taking upwards of 10 minutes.
  • Because of unique players being placed into unique teams, matchmaking after building your team took too long, IE: A mix of diamond, blonze, platinum would be hard to find a team that equal in skill overall.

Unfortunately there was no reward for enqueing as the most in demand role. And unlike Overwatch, LoL is F2P meaning it would cost Riot to reward entirely F2P players for playing the in-demand market.
