Renekton has a 48% win rate in a supposedly early game meta

Really makes you think

Maybe he is not that good early after all

Or maybe top laner being good early without some helpful tools to transition his lead onto the rest of the team (like certain early game champs have) really means nothing?

Many of the reworked champs can now match Renek's early game and then scale into infinity...

Junglers being omnipresent really doesn't help Renekton 1 bit with his abysmal cooldowns in the early game.

"Early" game champion with one of the worst level 1's, shitty level 2, and 20 sec cooldowns early? Wow.

The problem is not Renek having not enough early game power, he's still the butcher of top lane as he's always been. Oh you think you can actually trade with him at level 2 and 3? Good sodding luck mate.

The problem is that top lane itself/in general is has too less of impact on the rest of the game.

Instead of blaming on that Renek is somehow not good enough in early game meta, it's more to do with champs who primarily go top lane is not enjoying it in bot lane meta.

Correct. I play a ton of Renekton. I have absolutely no problem winning lane. The problem is that, far too often, winning top lane doesn't even matter because your bot lane lost or the enemy jungler is better than yours.

Ren is played in pro games, no way is he weak.

Pro is different than everyone else. You can be weak at high elo but strong in low elo like Xin Zhao.

Renekton is played in pro games because he's reliable - he's hard to dive and good at escaping ganks while providing a point and click stun. He never really has a lot of impact.

That in itself has value, does it not? To have a reliable top laner that shuts down the enemy's chances of snowballing off of you that can still engage fights and eat some damage?

  1. item 3076 (thank god it's getting nerfed)
  2. It doesn't really matter if you win lane, if their botlane is better you lose. You have to snowball bot in order to win
  3. Good luck diving a marksman that can tank your dmg thanks to item 3190 item 3504 item 3107 item 3109

I really hope the preseason changes can shift the meta. i want tanks to tank and divers to dive, not build and play like a support

In my honest opinion, most games are decided in botlane, not in toplane. It doesn't matter if you're a good or bad toplane champion. An average toplaner will have a harder time carrying a game than an ADC will. Much of it has to do with how overpowered censer is now, and how an ADC can completely take off and snowball all teamfights if they get even the slightest ahead earlygame.

Maybe it isn't an early game meta despite what baddies on the boards keep whining about when they get stomped?

His early certainly is as good as ever, and his lvl 2 is prettyy darn strong. The issue is that he has a really hard time translateing an early lead into anything usefull.

Renekton can bully, but so many champs can do what he can better in the mid game. I dont know whos saying its an early game meta but i keep finding that bum rushing turrets is the way to go and tons of champs do that better than renekton.

it's not that he is that weak early game. It is that the game pace is soo fast 0~25min is an inaccurate representation of "early game" due to snowbally meta. But still, he certainly is on the weaker spectrum.

renekton is better as a midlane assassin.

He's still a strong lane bully, but your value as a top laner now is one of two things... How well you can split push and escape, and, how well you can peel for your adc/dive and kill their adc.

Given that the maokai you went 4-0 vs in lane and took tower from can peel far better than you can, despite being behind, and his support tank items cost little, your bruiser ones aren't cheap. You have little chance of killing an adc that positions at least half sanely (so try it in bronze-silver) and is guarded by a support + a knights vow maokai. You won't kill mao before their adc kills you (as it should be), and you can't get to the adc between janna, the knights vow, the ardent shield...

Your lane bullying made you a 4-0 150cs renekton, you have till the first teamfight to crush the game so hard that the 0-4 75 cs maokai isn't a better asset than you...
