Phase rush definitely needs a buff/ adjustment

leakinb··50 votes·3,118 views

Just check some stats Sorcery has a popularity of ard 20% and within this 20% only ard 5% use phase rush, which means in overall there are ONLY ard 1% of players are using PR

Look at these champs that used SRS before like Darius Cassiopeia AurelionSol Illaoi Mordekaiser Ryze Most of them are trash atm/ using another keystone instead

Just reduce the cd and increase the %MS early game Actually before lv 10, I feel this keystone completely useless

I don't think lack of popularity necessarily means it needs to be buffed; that isn't to say it's in a good spot either, but the decision to buff it shouldn't be based on its popularity. Keep in mind we're in a relatively new preseason meta where everyone feels it's necessary to stack as many damage runes as possible.

I think the increase to the base MS % would be nice, but I feel like reducing it's cool-down in tandem would be too much. It's already a fairly low CD as it is.

It's trash so nobody uses it The old SRS has 10 cd only which increases by half now

Wouldn't want melee getting close to your lux right. Jk.

Jokes aside I'll never pick that Keystone since it's garbage. And there is no way they can buff it that won't make it broken on hypermobile champion since the disparity between Mobile and immobile is immense

I'm pretty confident in my positioning, so I don't think this change would really worry me :P

I don't think it's necessarily garbage; we're just in a meta where stacking damage over anything else always seems to win. It's hard for them to buff this in a meaningful way that makes it good for certain champions without making it broken on others. I do think certain melee's could actually use some kind of buff though. They just get kited way too easily.

A thought I had about that situation was splitting Movement speed into 2 different stats. In combat and out of combat. Melee fighters as a rule have higher in combat MS than other classes but lower out of combat marksmen have lower in combat MS but higher out of combat. With everyone somewhere in between.

This of course being predicated on a Change to definition of "in combat" bonuses. If you attack your in combat

Man, I feel like that would feel like a really awkward pair of mobility boots. I think it would be too drastic of a game-wide change to make that a good solution. It would probably tilt a lot of people.

It's a really tough spot when it comes to balancing. Obviously certain melees need -something- so they don't get kited to death, but at the same time, we don't want a bunch of faux master yi's running around.

We could always increase the slow reduction on these item 3009, or maybe make a new item, or add a passive to an existing item kind of like item 3139 where the speed bonus is for melee only?

The slow reduction NEVER feels like a worthwhile buy. To many AOE reapplying slows*.

Well that's why I think it could be useful if we increased it's slow reduction, though I'm not sure by how much. I think it could help...the problem though is that champions who already have no problem with CC would be even more of a nightmare to deal with.

I remember playing vs this rengar who was apparently very good at him. He was able to instantly break out of every single snare I through at him. (Honestly I didn't even know that was a thing until a teammate told me.)

They aren't the same abilities. Similar yes. Not the same and it doesn't overcome the ranged Vs melee gap that exists when the ranged get the same benefit from safety.

Even with the AP scaling, you still need to have synergy with auto-attacking in your kit to make good use of it. So there are very few APs that can actually use it, Twisted Fate, Kayle, and Fizz being examples, and even then, they have way better keystones to use.

It would be better if they also made Fleet Footwork proc on single target spells. This way it would be at least a viable option on those champions, albeit a questionable one, since going Precision means you get attack speed (which is not what most of those champions want).

koshkyra4 votes

Cass, Asol, and Ryze are using aery/comet just fine

Illaoi is abusing using klepto

Darius can use phase rush, grasp, or PTA just fine (grasp is better imo but PTA works with resolve secondary and phase rush is perfectly fine on him)

Morde is still using phase rush or just fine, or even comet/aery

darius didn't use SRS before

Nasus did

Morde used it but it was a noobtrap DFT was way stronger (opinion of a morde main)

Malicious Metal3 votes

It wasn't really a noobtrap.

in a solo lane you needed Phase Rush not to get kited into oblivion and it allowed for some great extended trades. You could keep up with Riven to actually apply your damage.

DFT was simply better in Duo lanes where you already got your anti kite in form of your support.

Ahristocats1 votes

didn't think you would comment that thread

that's why i said it was a noobtrap, cuz u would prove me wrong :/

Malicious Metal3 votes

Not really, you're right in one regard.

There is a noobtrap, it's not SRS Morde though.

It's top lane Morde.

GG at champ select. Atleast midlane you can survive hard lanes

Ðucky1 votes

Multiple D1+ korean morde OTPs took SRS into melee matchups top lane, and quite a few took SRS in bot lane as well. DFT was objectively superior for damage, but calling SRS a noob trap is not accurate at all, unless you think you're significantly better than master tier korean mordekaiser mains.

Ahristocats1 votes

yes

yes i do, as someone who had 68% win rate on 200 morde games in s7 taking DFT increased your chance of winning by a ton i only took stormraider against braum and ashe

All four of those are master tier in korea, one was in challenger for the majority of season 7, three of them have above a 60% winrate on morde in season 7, three of them have over 250 games in season 7, one is a bot laner, all of them ran SRS into a lot of matchups. IDK why you're so adamant about this.

Like yeah DFT was great, but SRS was extremely good in top lane against melee, and the lack of a replacement for it is one of the reasons morde's playrate has dropped so much. There's also no replacement for DFT as well. Aery is a completely different keystone (and gets outscaled by DFT pretty much right out of the lane phase), and comet is not really all that usable on morde.

It's 5% of 20%, which is 1% of the original 100%.

Out of 16 keystones, a 'perfect spread' would be 6.25% usage of each mastery. using that as a baseline, Phase Rush is well outside of understandable variance.

This holds true if you crunch the numbers of keystones vs champions. With 134 champions, and 16 keystones, the 'perfect spread' would be 8.375 champions commonly utilizing each keystone. Following this line of math, however, 1.34 champions commonly use phase rush... Which is bizarrely accurate. Basically Morde is the only champion who runs it commonly, with a few other champs who will occasionally pick it up; however even these numbers are probably going to drop, as aery (sp) is better on Morde.

The above numbers are with each champion having a single keystone which they overwhelmingly favor. This obviously isn't the case, but making the numbers more accurate actually shows Phase Rush as being even worse than it does here.

More on topic:

AP Cho has been one of my favorite picks for years, and I used to run Stormrider's on him. It gave needed burst of mobility to turn a Q W combo into an R finis, or to turn a W / W > Q combo into a clean escape from a bad situation or gank.

I, however, cannot use Phase Rush on him now.. Because in order to proc it, I must already be in melee. I think that's the issue, here. Currently rush is only good for kiting; the people who need it fight can't proc it, because they need to already be in range for an extended period to activate it.

Given how few keystones there are, yes it is.

If we were talking about 1 champion's playrate out of 140+, then 5% isn't crazy small.

But we are talking about 1 of 15 Keystones. 5% is low.

Z3Sleeper2 votes

It's actually 5% of 20% which is like, 0.25% pick rate.

If it was 5% it'd be fine cuz there's always gonna be popular picks and the average should be 15%.

veigarbage can3 votes

Veigar one-trick here, and avid Veigar SRS abuser. Phase Rush feels like discount SRS, and because of it, he lacks a really good keystone mid to late game. Electrocute is only good for the first 10 minutes, because Veigar doesn't need more damage, and Comet is not good because Veigar does enough damage. The only good thing that I found is Summoner Specialist, and for most people like me, I rarely use the "swap summs" ability. It's only good for the Summ CDR.

Spellbook is great on him. Start the game with defensive spell, swap for TP at first back and swap back to defensive spell after lane phase. I usually go Heal > TP > Ghost/Exhaust. The Ghost reduced cooldown is great lategame.

Metallikaiser1 votes

I loved Storm Raiders on Mordekaiser, it just feels dumb to now take the same keystone but considerably worse. Mordekaiser's should be taking Aery now, I used to think SRS just barely beat out DFT, but now the extra damage keystone of Aery just feels more worth it, which is a shame because I feel SRS/Phaserush were meant first and foremost for champs like Mordekaiser, and now a keystone which already wasnt being used often, now being used even less makes it worth considering if it needed to be a gimped SRS in the first place.
