People say split-pushing sucks. Explain to me why that is.
I don't really know why, and I play yorick. So someone help me out here.

Split pushing is one of those strategies that are fun for you as the split pusher, but not fun for your team.
The reason being, your team has to be very disciplined, and in addition to that not make any calls on their own. It means they have to play a reactive play style with minimal initiative and no ability to realize whatever gameplay fantasy they went into the game with (because you are the one who is constantly doing things while they are the ones who are constantly playing around what you are doing).
As the opposing team, dealing with the split pusher is often an exercise in futility. Many of the split pushing champions can run rings around other characters in the game and the dynamics of the game is that you keep chasing mr split pusher, keep not catching him, not getting kills, and keep losing objectives somewhere only to have him pop up on the other side of the map and bang on your tower. It is a game play experience where you are constantly flustered and denied and have a real difficulty making any proactive play (if the splitter's team is disciplined).
For the most part, split pushing forces reactivity (as opposed to proactivity) from both teams and shoves agency from both teams into the splitter's hands. It creates a game dynamic that is focused to a great extent on the split pusher's "solo carry" experience. That is why people who are not the split pusher don't like games to be won or lost through this mechanism (I like games to be solo carried when it is me doing the solo carrying, and not when it is you doing it).
that being said split pushing is important to exist in the game as a mechanism to split up balled as 5 teams.
it is a shame that the layout of the map does not allow the dota2 style of split pusher, who is WEAK AT 1V1ING.
Basically because at a certain point, you can't 1v1 a splitpusher, no matter which member of the team you are. This leads to having to send 2 people instead, leaving the rest of your team VERY vulnerable to a 4v3 (and a 4v3 is MUCH more dangerous than a 4v4). This leaves players hating that they have to split up or lose objectives, and teleport makes it worse for them, because the minute the splitpusher sees them, he can back off and TP to the rest of his team, turning it into a 5v3. With no way to contest a 5v3, the lane the rest of the team was pressuring will inevitably fall, and objectives will be lost either way.
I don't mind split pushing, but when they are in our base and you're still working on their tier 2 top tower, you're wrong.
There was someone in the jungle dude.
It comes down too if all if you are split pushing and the enemy team is grouped and sieging, the team blames the split Pusher for not being there and any negative outcomes. Sometimes the complaining it is justified but most times it is not. When it is not, people look for a scape goat.
Yorick doesnt really apply to the complaint because he is the only champion that can split push and be in two places at once. His ult can shove a lane for him and build up a pretty significant threat to the lane, and Yorick can be off doing whatever.
But honestly if you're split pushing and your getting shit done, screw the haters. If you're knocking down buildings and forcing the other team to donate 2-3 of their team mates just to deal with you, you're team should be able to 4v3 or 4v2, or take objectives. That only applies though if split pushing is a benefit to your team. If you're down every first turret and you got 5 enemies in mid trying to shove ahead, you shouldn't be off solo'ing a lane as a marksmen thinking your excellent Vayne spotting skills can 1v5 whoever comes your way.
because many people have no idea about this, for example My ranked yesterday enemy are in our base with baron buff destroying nexus towers, when trynda whole game was split pushing and that was mainly reason why we lost. Cuz he wanted splitpush WHOLE game
It sucks when people splitpush when the rest of your team can't hold the enemies off and he's like just sitting on this tier 2 tower be like: "yeah just a minute and I'll be there" while the enemies are taking inhib
A long time ago, Riot had a problem with splitpushing, because the best splitpushers in the game also tended to be among the game's best duelists. What this meant is that, whenever a champion decided to splitpush, the defending team was always at a loss, because sending just one player to match them would likely be suicide, and sending more would put them at a numbers disadvantage elsewhere. We can see this now with Tryndamere in particular, and why he's so annoying to deal with, beyond just his cheesy levels 1-2. Additionally, Riot really wanted to encourage teamfighting, because teamfights generate a lot of excitement for players and spectators alike. By contrast, splitpushing isn't as flashy, even if it can be just as tense and fun on a different level. Essentially, Riot has actively been discouraging splitpushing in League, because they've never really figured out how to make it fun. Yorick was a step in the right direction, but the game's current environment is so stacked against him that he ultimately kinda flopped.
In the long term, though, I feel this move away from splitpushing, and exclusively towards teamfighting, has been detrimental to the game overall. The advantage to splitpushing, other than adding a greater diversity of strategy than just grouping up and deathballing, is that it forces duels even at later stages in the games. Ideally, if splitpushers in League can't duel well, and duelists in League can't splitpush, that makes duelist champions such as assassins and fighters among the best anti-splitpushers, as they'd be encouraged to hunt down players who isolate themselves, and would thereby add a whole layer of risk and reward to splitpushing. This would also solve a major issue with duelists in League currently, as right now the later stages of the game are so teamfight-centric that it's virtually impossible for a duelist to continue functioning properly in pro play. This is also why other MOBAs have a much healthier balance between duelists and teamfighters, because the viability of both teamfighting and splitpushing in those games allow both to coexist. League should take a page from these games, as well as their own design with Yorick, and work on reintroducing splitpushing in a manner that is healthy and interactive to all, which should additionally solve the current issue of assassins not being pro-viable.
because most of the times the remaining 4 players can't manage to not get picked off in a 4v5. At least that is my experince. You always have an adc going to close to a trhesh or a support randomly engaging believing he has found the opening to win the 4v5.
Split pushing doesn't suck.
It's very rare to find someone that knows how to split push.
Well split pushing witha global threat or TP seems fine, but there comes a point where that can't be the only win condition, sometimes the global threat or TP isn't enough to deter the enemy team from pushing an objective as 5, leaving your team at a -1 man disadvantage. A thought could click in their heads saying, "Hey, we outpush their Yorick/top laner/Nasus/guy with TP or whomever, let's mow down the lane we're in right now while he's taking his time pushing alone and leaving his team stranded."
My friends and I had to 3v5 every objective today because of 1 splitpusher and 1 midlaner who'd lost their keys in the enemy jungle. We won- but fighting 3v5 is a -damn- easy way to lose a game.
We had the early-game advantage, and all the pressure, but what should we do if we can't win the 3v5s? Sit under tower! Get seiged by their Caitlyn and Karma, dived by Seijuani, give up every objective. LOSE.
[zombie-brand-clap]
The splitpusher even completely lost his rag at me when I'd pushed a lane out BEFORE him. He also had no freakin' clue what a slowpushing lane looked like or what it was for.
It is -not- a one-size fits all tactic. It's an option. The thing is people will accept 'we can't teamfight' quite readily, whereas 'we can't splitpush' is consistently ignored and treated as an impossibility.
Split pushing doesnt suck, depending on the match, but tbh i feel like everyone already knows how to deal with split pushes, it was used up for so long, so its no longer such a strong strategy unless you are really good at it and the team comp/game allows it.
