Globals for deaf people.

Sion kled ults are really hard to notice if they're off-screen and you can't hear them. Until there's a good solution (because I know riot is diligently working on a good still solution), can you guys put a message in chat to indicate sion or kled pressed r? I play yorick and it feels good to thwart an engage by walling them, but it's much harder if you can't hear them coming.

Post your own ideas. Let's brainstorm for fixes. So far we have (and I'm too lazy to give people credit just ctrl-f and copy paste to find the original):

SOMEONE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT DEAF MODE, SO MAYBE ALL OF THESE COULD BE OPT IN. (mobile excuse the all caps)

1.I suggest something similar to Corki when he picks up a package there’s a brief vision showing where he is.

Another suggestion is to put a marker above their head similar to Warwick passive W. 2.All they really need to do is like show a small Sion/Kled portrait light up in the top corner of the screen or something to indicate that they're using their ultimate. 3.I think the marker idea could work, if everyone gets a marker so that you can't tell who they're trying to ult. 4.When Sion ults, the word COWARDS should appear at the top of your screen. And if he is in the Mecha skin it should read "CHOO CHOO" 5.The best solution would probably be some kind of screen filter like what Gnar, Nocturne, and Illaoi have. Maybe a flash of a colors is even enough. 6.Filter flash is a good idea, only issue is that there's quite a few champions that have ults/abilities that need this treatment, and only so many colors. Perhaps a single color for enemy abilities (yellow? it's not used for anything AFAIK) along with a flash of their portrait in the upper part of the screen. 7.If you are playing in deaf mode just make it so once one of them both ults There is a really big, bright, red Text message saying something like

IHateVaynePLayers (Sion) : COWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARDS!!!!!!!

WhereDemMushJuiceAT (Kled) : CHAAAAAAAARGEEE!!!!!!! 8.My suggestion would be the portrait of the champion appearing where death timers go and as it appears have a shockwave sort of visual effect that extends maybe an inch or two. Not enough to cover information on the screen but enough that your eye is drawn and you notice. 9.Little cartoony icon at the top of the screen with the icon of the global champ flashing, so you notice it when you're not looking at it. 10.The real is issue is the insufficient amount of Lux skins in the game. 11.Have an image of his R ability icon appear above your head like an emote would. 12.Visually, no words should appear. If Kled ults you can only hear it. It's possible to not be paying attention and miss it, for example. If words appeared I would turn on deaf mode lol. However, some marker should appear. 13.well, it might be a bit disorienting, but perhaps the screen color should flash differently, perhaps even as inverted colors? It makes a bit of thematic sense as well that his roar is so powerful that it disorients opponents 14.For the whole text idea I think you should make the text color something different like red or something

Sion doesn't run away. He regroups with himself.

I don't remember who said it but it was something like, "we do not run from battle...but there is nothing wrong with a strategic retreat" or something like that

Just call it a strategic relocation.

Doesn't sound as amusing :P

No to either of these. Both of these instances immediately give you too much information about the enemy Sion or Kled, and invalidates the use of their ultimates because you can simply stay away from the lane or area they are charging towards. It would make their ultimates worthless because they lose the element of surprise.

All they really need to do is like show a small Sion/Kled portrait light up in the top corner of the screen or something to indicate that they're using their ultimate.

y0r1ck2 votes

Yeah this would work too, basically any visual would work.

BALDG1VEN BOOMER1 votes

You can add a certain range (lower) to the second one, doesn't have to be the exact range similar to Warwick passive.

y0r1ck1 votes

Even so, unless everyone gets a marker, there's still some extra information conveyed.

BALDG1VEN BOOMER1 votes

I wouldn’t say extra message is conveyed if you had a range of say 800 before marked.

Which is almost equivalent to Twitch with Ulti.

Kleds ult already has arrows and a marker going to where it'll end doesn't it? or are those not visible to the enemy team

y0r1ck1 votes

It's visible but you won't see it unless it's actually aimed at you.

I used to play lol without any sound. So yeah i know how you feel.

Dead flag blues3 votes

A big red / darkish message on the middle of the screen (like when there is a "An ally has been slain" announce), quoting what the champ is saying ?

Naalith3 votes

I'm not deaf but I do like to listen to podcasts and watch videos on my second monitor so sometimes League is turned down so I can listen. This isn't a sound whoring game like CS:GO or Rainbow 6 so you don't need to hear footsteps or anything, but those few global sound exceptions would benefit from something.

My suggestion would be the portrait of the champion appearing where death timers go and as it appears have a shockwave sort of visual effect that extends maybe an inch or two. Not enough to cover information on the screen but enough that your eye is drawn and you notice.

y0r1ck2 votes

I like this, there's already the death timers. Seems clever to use them to convey more information from time to time.

The ~~ best~~ my personal favorite solution would probably be some kind of screen filter like what Gnar, Nocturne, and Illaoi have. Maybe a flash of a colors is even enough.

It Hertz When IP6 votes

Nocturne's isn't a screen filter, it's the actual ability.

Filter flash is a good idea, only issue is that there's quite a few champions that have ults/abilities that need this treatment, and only so many colors. Perhaps a single color for enemy abilities (yellow? it's not used for anything AFAIK) along with a flash of their portrait in the upper part of the screen.

Auz the Ripper3 votes

If you wanna get technical Noc’s ult does filter stuff off of the screen Like the positions of teammates, the location of the fight, and your ADC’s health bar.

50000000000000001 votes

It's both, without jokes. The vision radius is reduced, but the screen is also slightly darker.

when sion ultis riot should play " why are you running, why are you running? " meme hahahhah

Hammermancer2 votes

Little cartoony icon at the top of the screen with the icon of the global champ flashing, so you notice it when you're not looking at it.

A good player knows who that champ is anyways and what they do.

BladeSingularity2 votes

I've commented on posts like this before, and as a deaf League player with cochlear implants, I continue to support adding visual cues for those who cannot hear the global audio cues. It could be messages in the text box or a flash of color, but I really think Riot should consider adding some sort of option.

y0r1ck2 votes

The more support the better. I agree, the goal of the post was just to lay down some possibilities and get riot's attention on the topic.

BladeSingularity2 votes

That's exactly what the goal should be for now - once Riot starts considering it, that's when we'll need to narrow down the options to the ones that work best. But I like these ideas so far.

Iręlía2 votes

That's nice and all, but.....

The real is issue is the insufficient amount of Lux skins in the game.

Honestly I'd love this. I just wish the game in general was more accessible for sensory impaired people. I'm not fully deaf but partially, and I'm partially blind as well (but can see well enough to play and stuff, the blind part doesn't affect my gameplay surprisingly, because of how it affects me). But the being deaf part makes it really hard against certain champs, that give auditory ques on important spells, etc.
