New item: Woodsman's boots. A new option for smite with champs who don't want those jg items

Hammermancer··85 votes·19,262 views

item 1001 + one of item 3715 item 3706 +200g

45 movement speed and jungle item, seriously barebones, allow champs who don't want to go for bloodrazor, Warrior, or cinderhulk to build this instead thus allowing more viability for off meta junglers

Cinder is for tanks. Runic is for AP Warrior is for fighters. Bloodrazor is for AS junglers.

I'd say the jungle item variety is fine.

ChauvinPlaysLoL45 votes

He’s talking about certain junglers who don’t necessarily need the jungle item like Ivern or those off meta ones who’d rather get to their core items faster.

I’d make an argument that Jax can do well in the jungle without the jungle items since his core items and conqueror already provide so much. So having a jungle item be your boots giving you five core item slots, but still allowing you to get that extra experience and jungle income and jungle presence would be cool.

Fiddlesticks doesn't need runic for instance

Terchio1 votes

Runic isn't as bad as the old one. It may help to not have a channel with the Echo effect, but at its activation rate, it's not that overbearing compared to AP champions that abused the Sheen effect. Fiddlesticks is most commonly (and most successfully) built with Runic Echoes in Jungle first or second.

Eeyore2 votes

I mean, he uses neither of them any better than the other. He doesn't move or casts (more than one) spells while jungling - so both items sit at 0 charges.

Terchio1 votes

The difference is Fiddlesticks getting 2 procs to everyone else's 5-6 vs. Fiddlesticks getting 1 proc to everyone else getting still probably 1, 2 on a good camp. The charge on Echo is simply not that fast, moving or casting. More of the heavy lifting is in the AP and CDR these days, and moving camp to camp does acceptably well for Fiddles in charging.

Numbers don't lie. Fiddlesticks is winning jungle with Runic Echoes first or second buy, either before or after his Sorc Boots.

I find I build cinderhulk on bruisers in the jungle that don't need Warrior because they typically go Triforce into full tank.

Having the option to get an armor or MR item instead would be nice... Although to be honest I can't think of a situation where I'd prefer these boots and spirit visage or dead Man's over cinderhulk with Mercury treads or Ninja tabi respectively.

So the item suggested may need some work, but the generally idea is cool.

Bloodrazor has no lifesteal Cinder has no armor/mr Warrior has no lethality Runic demands mages auto attack even if you're fiddlesticks or karthus

These items do not cover every potential jungler. There's a reason these things have been changing every year since jungle items started being a thing in S3.

?????

How does Runic demand they auto? It literally says nothing about autos in the entire description.

The old effect did, the Runeglaive one. He's a little bit behind.

item 3028 + jg item + item 1027 + 450g 10% CDR, 250 mana, 75% mana regen, 40 MR and Harmony (Increased HP regen based on bonus Mana Regen) Might be too specifically for Ivern and less for Support-y junglers in general, but it does help lower damage champions get through the Jungle as long as they can ... complete Chalice of Harmony.

I thought about making Forbidden Idol the primary component, but I'm not sure thats a good idea. What do you think?

Sire Hippington12 votes

wouldn't mind something like that, though it needs a bit extra else it would hardly make a difference to just keeping item 3715 /item 3706 till you actually need that 6th inventory slot The main reason to upgrade them is that the enchantments are extremly goldefficient to a point where not pick em up is self sabotage. Even item 4104 on fiddle, for 1625g you gain 80 ap, 10%cdr, 300mana, the ecco proc and extra manasustain.

So for those boots to compete in anyway at all, they need to offer a little bit more, like 10more ms in jungle+river, or restoring 5% missing mana/health on big monster takedowns.

AugustHeatHaze7 votes

ms in river and the health restore would be good

If you dont like the jungle item then do what everyone else does, dont buy it. Stop building it atitem 3715 and go into ur normal build. Then sell it later when ur ready for a real item. Or be one of those junglers that can get away with only buying item 1041 then going normal build.

Also ruinic is great on fiddle now since its gives his fav 2 stats, ap and cdr. The problem with fiddle is he is terrible right now. Its not an itemization issue.

Doesn’t really work like that anymore thanks to f***ing lcs funnel bull... This way you don’t get so F’d by incomplete if you are ahead

Kazekiba1 votes

Not much reason a Jungler should be last hitting minions. Donate them to your laners unless they just died or theres no one to push minions off towers, in which case youre not killing minions for the gold value but rather the pressure and more important aspects of the game.

Snowman Arc2 votes

You still lose out a lot. Also, later in the game, you might wanna push lanes as well.

In any case, you shouldn't be disallowed from doing it.

SpaghettiVase3 votes

I feel like there would need to be some slight incentive to buy it over what essentially just equates to more damage from ever other other jungle item. I mean someone like Ivern has no real reason to do damage but why not build it? There is no downside, so these boots would just get overshadowed even by him.

Z3Sleeper4 votes

The incentive is low cost, tier 2 boots + complete jungle item packed into one slot so you can build a different item entirely.

1600g upgrade vs 500g upgrade

AugustHeatHaze1 votes

the incentive is lower cost + freeing up a slot which is an issue with jungle items.

SpaghettiVase3 votes

That still doesn't mean anything though, a lower cost just to have a red/blue smite really doesn't do anything. It's not like the champs who don't need a completed jungle item HAVE to rush it. You see other champions rush an item before completing the tier 2 jungle item anyways. As for taking up a slot, none of the jungle items are that bad really? I mean if a game goes on long enough to wear an item would be better in place of it, you can just sell it for that item. Having a red/blue smite isn't really that crucial by the full build point

Ornn item 1401 and item 3373 Don't stack

Sometimes I'd rather have the extra item slot than the shitty bonus hp...

ForFoxSakes3 votes

I wouldnt ever build that item even on champs who may not want a completed jg item early. You'd be giving up some pretty big benefits on the boots like even more move speed, tenacity or autos reduction which is a pretty big part in duelling and the matchup vs the opposing jungler

By buying these, you're giving up on any pair of stats from the following lists:

  • Slot A +35% AS +20 Armor and +12% auto-attack mitigation +25 MR and 30% Tenacity +18 Magic Penetration +10% Cooldown Reduction and +10% Summoner Spell CDR +115 out of combat MS

  • Slot B +50% AS and 4% Target's Max HP on-hit damage +300 (+15%) Health and burn aura +60 AD and +10% CDR +80 AP, 300 Mana, +10% CDR, and Echo + mana restore on monsters

Sure, you're saving a slot and some gold, but the item you DO have is kinda really bad and devoid of anything useful.

Rathar Dashing3 votes

Uhh, by saving a slot you can fill it with any item, pretty much any of which can cover for the stats you lose.

All the jungle enchants are already basically weaker versions of items, save for Cinderhulk which grants a good amount of %health and a more CS oriented damage aura.

As for boots, most of those stats are easily gotten by other items. Randiuns covers your tabis and then some, a zeal item covers your loss of attack speed, and pretty much every item these days gives you +10% or more CDR. Stacking flat MPen would be a good buy against some people with sorc shoes + morello, but morello + void staff can get the job done with more AP, and better effectiveness against tanks and minions. OOC movement speed is also quite valuable, but depending on the champion, there are certain items that can make up for this, such as ZZ'rot, ghostblade, deadmans, etc. Finally, tenacity +MR is pretty much unseen in any other item. If you're on SR, this is your only option. Even if you're playing blitz, you might not be able to use Zephyr or Moonflair. So if you really need tenacity, then don't buy this item. Plus, you could get Steraks + Cinderhulk for a massive shield pop.

Yup. The item would actually completely broken as long as a ridicoulous price tag is not put on it. Gold efficiency + Item slot efficiency = must buy item, even for the champs that are not the original target for this propos

TeCoolMage1 votes

I think though that it should be worse than jungle item and normal upgraded boots, but not to the point you get nothing but a merge (+the bare minimum bonus of upgrading) of the two items.

Either it gives the same MS as swiftness (but no slow resist), 45 MS and a crappier boots of mobility passive (and increase the price) or just allow this merge to occur with any boots (but up the price a bit only because you already need to pay 800g)

otherwise you just upgrade boots normally, keep jg item un-upgraded, then sell it which defeats the purpose. The utility of having extra slots to hold 1 extra item component is not worth it, and the payoff of getting an extra item super late is not worth the 200 tax early if you're a jg that needs the extra MS, and not worth late when you can upgrade boots normally and sell jg item or sell both and buy two full items.

At best it'll make no impact to jg viability of champs that can't use other upgrades because they'll just not upgrade at all.

Kazekiba1 votes

Free Mobis to any junglers is exactly what it would take to put Elise and maybe Lee Sin back in the meta.

Terchio1 votes

My only gripe is this...

Boots are so important in the game that you simply can't avoid the regular upgrades. They give potentially important things like Tenacity, a powerful autoattack defense, magic penetration, and better speeds on a gank specifically. While plenty of junglers can't use the current Jungle Items ideally, Boots are never really a problem to find your ideal choice, which should outweigh this new Boots iteration.

Only thing I find appealing about this item is that junglers wouldn't have to spend 2 slots for Boots and Jungle Item, assuming they want to keep both. However, I'd add that such an endgame use of the Jungle Item feels against how they're supposed to function.

You could give it a "point runner" effect while in the jungle or river that persists for a second or two after coming out.

Why not just add more jungle items.. 4 covers the bases but every other lane has a lot more to choose from.

Take Garen top for instance; he can rush Black Cleaver, Trinity Force, Sunfire Cape, or even a Ghostblade. And those are just the more popular options. Lee Sin can go Warrior. That's all.

There should be say... 12 jungle items!

FSRER1 votes

Do these boots give you speed because if they do... damn i will have to ban hecarim since their release. Early speed combined with predator? going to be a nightmare

MLDzXnRRR1 votes

I don't build jungle items aside from smite on some champs like Trynda or Yasuo. The problem with boots jungle item is that support champion that can jungle will become good, they don't need farm, all their job is to land some kind of CC.

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

support junglers will still be open to invades and counter ganks since they wont do damage and anyway it shouldnt be that big a problem riot does want more champion diversity dont they? we already have Nunu and Ivern jungle why not more supports

Nunu is (or was - I haven't played much or checked game updates info) OP numberwise... idk how healthy for the game is to have someone with big numbers that doesn't need anything to function. That's one of the reasons why support Brand is considered OP - he may have no farm and items, but 1 good R and W = wrecked enemy team.

Wow I went to work and then came back to see this blow up!

so it seems like people think there needs to be incentive, i've seen mobis be brought up

In spirit of jungle items I think maybe the boots should be weaker versions of other boots, with special bonuses against monsters or special bonuses while in the jungle

Swift Woodsman's boots: just swifties but without the slow reduction,

Mobile Woodsman's boots, Mobis with an adaptive bonus in river

Lucid Woodsman's boots: Bonus CDR, Smite cooldown lowered additionally Berserk woodsman: bonus on hit vs monsters

Armored Woodsman: Damage reduction vs monsters, also some armor

Tenacious Woodsman: MR+ immunity to monster CC

these are just an idea to bring the boots up to par,

I want the stacking jg item back (forgot what it was called) I think it would help with the jg meta especially when the only champions that are good in the jg are those that can skirmish for scuttle I think it'd make it viable for junglers that can't duel every known champion Graves

This automatically makes this the best jungle item in the game because it frees up a whole slot with no downsides as any of the other slots that would hold the jungle item with other enchantments can be filled with an actual better item (in cinderhulks case not better just comparable while also not drawing unwanted tower agro unless they go for sunfirecape.) better in both stats and effects.
