can we get a confirmation window before banning a teammate's intended pick?

Hammermancer··148 votes·3,249 views

So i keep seeing this same scenario, person A intends a champion, person B claims to not pay attention and bans said champion Person A is a child and intentionally feeds your ranked game,

There is a good reason to allow the banning of intended picks, but there is also the clear issue that I (And I imagine many other players) have faced, in which one person gets banned by a teammate, and precedes to punish the three innocent members of the team. locking us into 20 minutes of hell

While i acknowledge that the intentional feeder should clearly be punished, i think the act of provoking them is in and of itself also wrong in the sense that it takes from the team atmosphere and starting at champ selection degrades relations between members of said team.

Other concepts is that maybe allow the person who got banned out by their team to dodge penalty free, with that team put back in the wait quo and the other person forced to start again but barred from randomly being placed with players on that team for a short period of time (one hour or so), thus the guy who really really wanted to go soraka top gets to do it with a team that doesn't hate him for it, and the guy who didn't want him doesn't have to sit through 20 minutes of intentional feeding... or worse one of those games where you win but it's grueling and takes an hour and 15 minutes.

To be fair I've done it by legit accident before.

Sometimes you're just busy editing masteries and shit and you just don't notice. Or maybe you're so used to banning the same champion every game (fucking GANGPLANK) that you don't even think to look at the champion lineup because you're so used to doing it.

There was also a very unique situation I ran into where I was going to ban Darius but then last second realized someone was planning to play him so I panic banned Volibear and it turned out our jungler had him hovered. A complete accident because I tunnel visioned on the Darius ban and didn't even think to look at the rest of the team.

A confirmation window is a good idea. It means that if you ban someones pick out of spite they can deny you certain things like maybe banning your own pick, or if they're jungle not ganking for you as petty revenge. That way people really can't accidentally ban the pick it would solve multiple issues at once.

A lot of people will still do it. Plenty do it on purpose

"wtf why did you ban my main I have first pick"

"_____ is cancer u tard" "_____ just feeds every game I won't play with them" "only Koreans play ____, you aren't good enough"

and so on. People are shit. Many will just click the "yes please fuck my teammate I am an asshole" button anyways

thusly why i think overuse of this could and should result in a punishment, say banning an allied champion x amount of times in a week/month/ect

Repeat offenders are obviously trolls

But then you know it was on purpose and you can report them, or like the OP said, do petty things like kill steal or not gank them. Things that don't necessarily lose you the game but make them not have any fun. I figure people would rather do that than intentionally feed

rtbf761092711 votes

If you are purposely not ganking when it would be the best move for the team, that's definitely going to lower your win rate. I'm not going to stoop to their level while also lowering my chances to win

It also is quite frankly a dickish move to ban out your teammate to begin with. It's considered unsportsmanlike conduct. At best you could state the reason you feel banning their pick is worth it and civilly convince them before doing so. Just outright banning without a single word comes off as antagonizing.

fyi, there are plenty of people who get trolled by their team and do not proceed to feed after. You are heavily favoring one scenario. I more often see the second which I stated.

I'm sorry if it came off as a statement of "This is what always happens" But i honestly have been in multiple games in the past month where this has occured, (And no it's never me that does the banning or whatever) The fact is that this definitely happens, and should definitely happen less. Someone like you or me might be like "Wow this guy is a jerk" maybe, if you're already on tilt, just say something in passing like "That was pretty lame dude" and go with an off main for that position, but you and I are not everyone that plays the game, and there is a group that is generally too large, that honestly does lower the quality of entertainment in it. These people should be, and generally do get reported, but the fact that it happens so much means that simple report/punishment is not enough.... because the issue persists. So I've argued to put in some more steps for this niche situation which would not greatly impede the matchmaking process, but would theoretically reduce intentional feeders based on matchmaking issues... not to benefit those who would do so, but to benefit the three players not involved who are being punished by the selfish actions of others.

again my quick suggestion is simply

step one: verification menu for the person banning saying "This champion is intended by a team mate, are you sure you wish to proceed? misuse of this system can and will result in punishment"

step 2: Compromise alternative, don't let the situation go without an easy out for all parties involved with a new popup for the player who go banned out "your intended champion has been banned by a teammate, would you like to find a new team?" Y/N prompt, no punishment, no issues, just resolved without the drama.

Of course if you land a team of level headed people then the fizz mid who got banned out might just go katarina or whatever his off main is, or might just pick what is the team would need the most, and wont think too hard about it. But we have millions of players, and too many ways to get around the ban system (I know a guy who just does what he wants and then gets banned, buys a new account, then intentionally feeds and flames until he gets banned again, he's a real life friend but i don't play with him... but these people are out there)

I apologize as well if it sounded like I in turn was accusing you of anything. I have seen the feeding scenario, but blessedly far less often. I do like your idea of notifying someone that they're about to ban an ally pick.

I also made a thread about it and asked for a warning in other threads too, I've been so ignored :(

dodging without penalty sounds nice but can be easily exploited if you have someone in your premade, or just anyone on ur team, if you ask them in chat, ban your champ just because the enemy team has a teemo or w/e.

Solution: remove dynamic queue.

you're confusing champ select with dq.

Of course, then there's also the other side, where you don't realise that your banning, panic ban the first person you click on with 1 second left, but then the game disbands because you have to confirm the ban. Now that person gets stuck with a 5-minute wait because of this.

Now don't get me wrong, I think this would be a good idea. I just like to give both sides of an argument in these kinds of threads so people can come up with a way to fix these problems. Maybe a 5-second addition to the ban time if you get one of the alerts?

Person A looking through deciding who to ban. 5 seconds left. Hovers yasuo while looking for better option. Sees none. 2 seconds left. Person B switches their support pick to yasuo to troll banner. Dialogue window comes up for person A. Ban time runs out. Person A has a 5 min wait for not locking in ban and everyone else has to go back to que.

I recently had a game where I hovered a champion (This was in Normals Draft) and my teammate proceeded to ban said champion I hovered (It was Darius by the way) but, I didn't complain, as I try to be a congenial player. The remainder of the team calls the person out on it, but i simply let him or her know it was alright, and we went on with things as normal. I picked another champion, and we moved on. But in regards to your post, a confirmation window probably wouldn't be a bad idea. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

I had someone on my team ban rengar. I had fun that game with jungle ziggs with summoner 13 summoner 1.

The difference was they didnt want me to play rengar (yes it was a group of friends), they wanted a tank

I ban Brand at all times, I don't want him on my team, on the enemy team, I want to kms whenever I fucking see one.

But there are times where I'm multitasking and I last minute ban someone's intent by accident, so yes pls window.

PC Trash Go Away2 votes

Adding a "Are you SURE you wanna ban this champ you deliberately clicked to ban?" pop-up wouldn't change anything. Kicking everyone out of draft and back into queue each and every time someone can't play their main/only champ would make the banning process completely pointless and increase draft waiting times to the point of absurdity. Both are bad ideas that haven't been incorporated for these obvious reasons.

Did you know that the purpose of locks on car doors isn't to prevent entry, but to get people to second guess their actions?

It adds an extra layer of thought... this is the concept

PC Trash Go Away1 votes

Did you know that quoting some philosophical bullshit about locks doesn't make for a counter argument on the validity of videogame matchmaking? Adds an extra layer of thought, yeah, there's a whole lot of thought going on in clicking "yes" to a pop-up in order to apply a choice you already made when you clicked the ban button the first time. Having to say yes another time doesn't change the answer to no when the conditions are exactly the same as when you answered the first time. There's your meaningless concept for ya as it does not in any way apply to your first crap idea. Can't wait to see what garbage line from someone else you try and use to defend the second idea (No, you didn't cover that part, quoting my whole comment doesn't magically make all of your two sentences applicable to the material therein).

And good job quoting the entire comment, thereby making it no more clear as to which part specifically you're replying to. Just because the option is there, doesn't mean you use it when you don't understand it's function like a five-year-old would have to.

DeathBot6662 votes

No. Pretty sure car locks are there so people can't just open the door to any car.

Same with anything with a lock really. There not there to say "Hey, you SURE you want to open this thing which may or may not have expensive and important objects inside." There more there to say "Hey, back off. I don't want you in here."

As awesome an idea as this seems to be, I disagree with implementing a notification.

  1. Players who are upset about having their champions banned are still going to be upset when they get banned anyways.
  2. This is really just a clarity issue - like map awareness. Is the information about intended picks unclear in some way? Not really. Maybe some players accidentally ban a champion here or there, but the information itself is not obscured.
  3. Players could then switch their intended pick to the champion a player is about to ban and force a notification pop up. Congratulations on creating a new way to troll champion select!

If you feel the clarity on player intended picks is obscure in some way, then advocate for some sort of special border color that you can see when you select the champion you are banning that indicates a teammate has intended it instead of advocating a "notification".

If you feel the issue is that players shouldn't be banning their teammates' intended picks, then advocate for intended picks to be lock outs on champions that can be banned. This would be as simple as not being able to select the champion for banning. And similarly, players would not be able to intend a champion currently already selected for banning. Don't advocate a confirmation window!

I also disagree with a free queue dodge for a player who has his selected champion banned. To me this is the rough equivalent of preventing other players from banning an intended pick... except that everyone has to re-queue all over again! The simpler thing would be to prevent banning of intended picks so that players don't have to re-queue because a player free dodged the queue.

Moreover, free dodging can be abused - either by premades who can use it to freely dodge queues they don't want to play or by players trying to force a dodge by providing a teammate with a free dodge opportunity. Neither of these activities really have anything to do with why your advocating a free dodge. Free dodging just provides another way for some players to troll champion select.

made a similar post recently myself. Personally all I would ask for is that if the person who lost their champ due to their own teammate, isnt penalized for leaving the que (at least in normals). It saves that person up to 45min of playing a champ they dont want to play (maybe they are really practicing a champion or something) and it lets everyone else get on with finding a different game too.

But you can't guarantee everyone is going to do that, this offers a solution that isn't on the punishment spectrum because it just makes more sense to help avoid the issue, it does not encourage lack of thought, it simply reminds people if they don't notice the issue

In one game I wasn't intentionally feeding but I was playing normal and I am down to just a few champions that I don't play much which I can still get a chest on. I knew I would be unable to get a S rank on these champions so when my friend decided to play a norm I thought it would be a good opportunity.

A team mate banned my intended champ and I ended up playing some champ I had really never played much like Bard or something and ended up doing pretty poorly.

Basically all I'm saying is that it can really get someone tilted even if they aren't intentionally feeding it can really screw them up. So yeah, I would be in favor of a confirmation screen.

no just no i will always ban yasuo regardless of what same goes for zed , if i dont, ik how the game will end 100%

zed carries the enemy game, and mid lane gets destroyed same goes yasuo

but also the shaco syndrome applies here our zed feeds , our yasuo feeds, while theirs carries so badly

if i can avoid this situation regardless of triggering my own team m8 i 100% will , idc if you want to play him or not , but yaso and zed are hated and always perma banned, its your own problem for picking something thats bound to be perma banned

Then they go aatrox mid instead and feed and you lose regardless. Great option.

You guys just don't understand. A lot of players simply dont want to play with xxx champion period, regardless of wether or not that specific champion is on their team, Especially in low elo's. GET OVER IT LOL theres over 100 champions to play. Expand your pool.

Like when a new champion is released... IDC how good you think you are with that champion, I simply refuse to trust you playing them. If you dont like it, and are you rage and feed... it probably means you were gonna do so ANYWAYS.

Leon Etoile1 votes

It's just an excuse to appease the player on your team. Examples, you are low elo and your adc wants to pick vayne; you ban that shit. 2nd, if they are a late pick and want a broken ass champ; you ban that shit b/c the enemy will take it more often than not.

Resonance x LFT1 votes

Well, I tend to get tired of the feeding Zed, Riven, and Yasuo players on my team, and quadra AD compositions, where a dumbass will be last pick and lock in Yasuo mid when you have a Vayne adc, Kindred jungle, Fiora top. So, I'm going to ban it. It's not to rustle their jimmies, it's so they will actually play a good champion with our composition and we can have a better chance at winning the game.

TL;DR if I don't want that champion in the game, I reserve the right to ban it.

Hammermancer1 votes

I think an unintentional feeder is miles better than intentional feeders, at least they help with objectives and pressure
