Seriously i'd rather just wait longer: fuck autofill

Hammermancer··82 votes·3,126 views

I hate playing support

it isn't fun to me

this is a game

let me play it in a way that i find fun

I would rather wait

than play support

For five minutes

for ten minutes

but not for a game of support

and after you fucking autofill me

I'm not protected?

just let me have fun

And let the adc have fun too

cause im a bad support

And i have no interest in the role

so I'll probably do poorly

and put my carry in a hole

So now im stuck hopelessly

as the game snowballs around me

and yeah it's all my fault

but it was out of my control

just let me pick my role

I'd rather wait longer than play with people that are unwillingly playing the wrong slot on my team.

Tomoe Gozen2 votes

Except that's not how it works. If you wait longer and it turns into super long time, you're then getting paired with worse players ELO wise. Because the system has to have a maximum time to wait for a "perfect" team before it says "it's no longer working with this pool of players, it's time to include worse players into the equation".

At this point, you wait for longer and get a mix of ELOs in your team, which is again not something you'd want. Autofilled players within your ELO range are optimal replacement than outright worse players all around.

You're not a Challenger player. Even Challengers under these rules have to wait for longer queue times, even in this system. But that's expected as it depends on the region and there's very few Challengers compared to us. So if you watch streamers like qtpie, he can also find himself in the situations of 10+/20+ minutes in the queue but that's infinitely better than waiting for 1+ hours, like it used to be at the beginning of S7 i believe.

You know what best part is? When I as support main try to play different role a little. And then i run into autofilled supports in my team, making me howl....especially if that other role is adc...

what abou at TOGGLED OPTION?

put me in a lower priority for all i care

dont make me support

it's not fun

They actually did try a toggle option. Problem is, even if a few people enabled it, it meant those who didn't became more likely to be autofilled. Because they got autofillled more often, they became more likely to turn off Autofill, which creates a snowball effect of people turning off Autofill, as que times slowly got longer.

I just got stuck in a game where i got autofilled support

the adc was also autofilled, apparently a mid mage main who didn't understand things like orbing

and my top laner was playing my main horribly

Lock On8 votes

There was a time when League of Legends players were versatile at all roles so they weren't worried about not getting mid. You know, intelligent, calm, and calculated people who actually enjoy a moba.

ªTeemo2 votes

No, no they weren't. I got to play the good old draft and everyone was like mid or afk and they only played teemo if they got support. Same shit as it is now

Lauchmelder2 votes

That maybe was a thing in low bronze, I never heard (from all of my friends) of that behavior in high bronze and I never experienced it in silver and gold.

ªTeemo2 votes

Nope, high silver and low gold

The only issue with current league is that laning phase is way way shorter, than let's say in season 5 when I was playing fill all the time.

Playing matchups correctly is even more important, than lane counters etc.

If you get an autofilled support, that has no idea how to have presence or an adc, that doesn't know how to trade in lane, then you are fucked, but having a useless support is worse to be honest, since you can't really roam or make plays on an adc if you were fisted in lane.

Troll for Trump2 votes

There wasn't really ever a time that was actually true. In pick order days, everyone would be an asshole since pick order never ended up being fully endorsed by Riot.

I think Riot doesn't realize that if someone gets autofilled, it's not just that ONE person not having fun. If one person is bad at a role, the whole TEAM isn't having fun. Meaning for each autofill that results in someone doing poorly, they ruin the game for 5 people for 30 minutes when all they had to do was wait 30 god damned more seconds in queue. 5 minutes at the most.

This would also get people into games faster since, surprise surprise, autofill causes mass dodging. I just can't see the benefit what-so-ever.

Could be a physical distance issue maybe. If they were to merge those people further from the actual physical server location could see large enough ping to make a difference in gameplay

FurriesAreHot2 votes

Oh you mean make 70% of the players in said combined server suffer with ping issues? Not to mention the technical issues of combining large servers?

Darkeus6 votes

Autofill is the reason why I started to main Support. It is already bad enough when I get mid. I don't like Jungle (Don't feel like being blamed for everything thank you.), Top is just in a bad spot and boring in my opinion and I suck at ADC. So now I don't worry about it since I am protected if I want to play a mid game.

And I feel autofill or even having to call roles has no place in a competitive game like this.

Bring back Team Builder. Problem solved. But Riot doesn't care about that....too busy changing champions lores for no good reason other than it's easier than facing the actual problems in this game over all. lul

That doesn't work.

I've been playing for 5 years and I can count how many times I've played jg on both hands. I'll get outclassed by the opponent jungler and autolose every time due to the massive skill difference and jg's carry potential.

I can play support and top, since a lot of my champions are transferable, but this idea that you're going to get better without any practice is silly and poor reasoning.

I just strongly disagree with the notion that we should put inexperienced players into roles they don't want to play at the detriment of their team for the sake of saving a few minutes.

These players often wind up getting raged at because they don't know the inns and outs of the role they were forced into by the autofill system.

and dodging is honestly a bad mechanic, it literally requires you to break the rules of the game and face potential punishment in order to save your team what might amount to 20 minutes of you being a liability

And I disagree with the notion of letting players get to high elo without playing one or more roles ever and then thrusting it upon them when the skill difference is staggering.

Honestly, Riot should go back and encourage people to branch out into at least a 3rd or 4th role, or bring back the old pick order system, because I'm really tired of people complaining about a massive improvement to how frequently they and their teammates get their role.

I mean the pick order system had its own problems that outweighed the issues of the concept of picking roles.

I know it had problems. I just pointed out the pick system was massively worse and I'd rather have it back if only to piss off the people consistently complaining about occasionally getting filled into another role.

Ya'll have it real easy and I think autofill is good because at the very least you're occasionally playing the other lanes and learning techniques that will help you learn the game and get to high elo as a more versed player. Complainers and dodgers? Sure. You had that in the old system as well. Not as many but considering the trolls back then it roughly evens in terms of players opting for those methods and dodgers are far less obnoxious than trolls.

Bro I used to exclusively play team builder, and I can assure you, getting the champ I want to play at the moment, and the position, is personally worth it. I usually run this on a laptop so I'll do things like cook, clean, smoke a joint, do whatever while waiting. and I would rather wait to have assurance that I'm not going to wind up in a game of league where the matchmaking system is already so bad that I'm stuck as a silver support, with a bronze adc, and a silver jungle against 2 enemy plats and an enemy gold

I honestly don't want to share my lane with a stranger, I actually love playing support but frankly I can't rely on riot's matchmaking which they admit is so bad that they have to force people into certain positions. I don't want to wind up as that guy who's either massively better or worse than my adc, if i'm massively better than I just get stuck cleaning up a nosebleed for 20-30 minutes while I try to stop someone from feeding their ass off. if I'm massively worse I get to spend the same amount of time trying desperately to keep up with them and keep them at their fullest potential. that's not a fun balance for a lot of people and that is specifically why support is a role that requires a certain personality type.

That wait time is going to only apply to players with much higher mmrs than the vast majority of players, as such special interactions with the match making system can occur at those elos

bronze, silver, gold, and plat do not need autofill

Diamond doesn't need it but it helps making the matches a bit better balanced from what I can tell with the massive differences between d5 and d3

I don't wanna deal with a support that has no idea how to support as an ADC.

If someone gets filled to jungle, I know as a mid laner that I'm probably not going to get help in lane.

I'm not having fun when I have to deal with autofilled people.

So make that 2 people who don't from yours truly

EkyonKun4 votes

Make that 5. Name one single person who sees an autofilled peron and says to themselves, NON-SARCASTICALLY "Nice! We got an autofill! I like our odds this game" No one. NO ONE SAYS THAT. Many people who are not the autofilled player get tilted the second they hear "wtf" immediately upon entering lobby.

"Just role swap with them"

If I wanted to role swap with every autofilled player, guess what. I'd queue as "fill." And if I did roleswap with every autofilled player, I may as well put fill anyway, because of how absurdly common autofill is. It's actually hilarious.

Just the other day I was trying to get into a game, I get my primary. Cool. Then a dodge I get my secondary. Eh still fine. Dodge.

Then I get autofilled jungle. Oh hell no I don't wanna play Rammus or Amumu today. Dodge. Phew

I get autofilled adc. RED ALERT. RED ALERT. LITERALLY WORST ROLE. Dodge. Thank christ.

I get autofilled support. Eh this is fine, I'm not a ba-Dodge. Okay then. I literally got every role in the game and had to play none of them.

I exit the queue. Come back 5 minutes later. I get my main role again. Proving to me if Riot just held on for just a few minutes, no autofills, probably next to no dodges (No way in hell no one dodged due to autofill out of 5 lobbies in a row), and we'd all be in a game MUCH faster. Autofill is beyond unnecessary, it's harmful to wait times.

EDIT: Just realized most of this was salt-fueled rambling, sorry. I didn't intend for this to stray so far from the original comment.

I always hated that graph. It really showed me how little autofill even did. If even one person dodges mid-lobby because of autofill, the system has completely and utterly failed. Not only is it ruining the quality of games, it's increasing total wait times in between games. It just infuriates me that it's still around. It's dynamic queue all over again.

Was a huge overstatement. Here are the actual queue times riot released:

it almost looks like under daimond there is a negative impact on time for us with autofill in place, which to me says that they made a change to 100% of the game's population to directly benefit less than 10%, when they could have literally just applied the change to daimond+

How about you not bullshit about willing to wait an hour in queue to place because everyone knows that is bs. Autofill is necessary to allow players who choose to queue up for support as their secondary to have their primary roles more frequently otherwise they would queue for anything else thereby increasing the number in that pool and reducing the support pool even further.

I'm not bullshitting, theres an alt+tab feature in PC, try it out

plus autofill doesn't actively affect us in a positive light, you honestly think that it shortens the time? Waiting three minutes vs waiting five minutes? that's not really a major difference for 80% of the player base

there's also the fact that dodging is out of control, so its usually like 1 or 2 dodges before every game, with 2 or so minutes between them (6 minutes)then if you get forced fill, you get to spend 15-25 minutes not playing the game in any good way

wow that's so much better than waiting 5 minutes vs 3 minutes
