Will/should devour get nerfed?

When this item was first announced, I was not very enthused about it. And upon release, it wasn't exactly helping. Junglers farming while inhibs were being pushed, Kayle and Yi turning into gods, ect were all bringing back memories of feral flare. However having been out for a few patches (and maybe a few small changes although I don't think there has been) I think it's in a pretty good spot.

I probably should have prefaced this saying that I am a jungle main, but I rarely play any devour jungle. In fact, Aatrox is my most played devour champion, and he's far from being too strong. I think Riot did get a few key areas correct when they made it. Lack of infinite stacking, and lack of healing. Both of these made FF both annoying to play against, and extremely boring to play with. Champions like Kayle might abuse it, but that speaks more to Kayle being too strong of a champion by design more than anything. Maybe there could be a few small tweaks here and there, none that scream out at me at the moment though, but all in all I think it's in a good spot.

I think it will get a little nerfed at the start. When item 3709 came in to the game it was really good then it was slightly nerfed but it was still the meta. Riot wouldn't have reworked that item if they did not want it to be the "new meta". They were messing with item 3708 for a while but i see assassin type junglers being in the meta for the next few patches. With that being said, if we have assassins in the jungle it forces the top/support (most likely) to go tanky. I don't know if Riot if trying to make this happen or it kinda made a chain of events into this. All i know is I don't see too many Sejuani Volibear anymore. With Nidalee apparently getting a nerf i don't see item 3708 being good on anyone but Fiddlesticks Evelynn. This is my general observation on things. In my opinion im glad to see the assassins back in the meta :)

I don't really see Riot attacking the items late game potential. (specifically the phantom hit passive) But I could see them making it harder to get their, or shaving of some of it's base stats. Reinforce the fact that it's a late game item, and needs time to scale. But the fact that it becomes Sated fixes a lot of problems that Devourer had.

I wouldn't classify most Devouring junglers as Assassins though. While the phantom hit passive is good, it doesn't have a whole lot of Burst. Really it's fighters that get the most benefit from this item.

I also wouldn't agree with the "Wanted a new meta." Really their "strategic Diversity" really means that they want all of them to be viable, given the right team comp. In the LCS, Warrior is still being picked up by Lee sin and some times rek'sai. Tank jungler are usually chosen by how much ganking power they have. That why Gragas and Rek'sai are picked over Sej. Nidalee saw a resurgence when Runeglaive came out. And Hai on C9 even brought out Shyvana.

So in the competitive Scene, All four Jungle items have their place in the current state of the meta.
