What Change(s) Made Ranged Supports Building Tank So Unviable?
I returned to the game a while back after playing heavily in seasons 4-6. I came back for Runes Reforged since the new system was so intriguing and quickly came to the realization that I was playing a completely different game than before. While I don't think it was incredibly meta at the time, you used to be able to build ranged supports (
being my primary example) with nothing but a Sightstone + Tank/CDR items to be a utility machine that could actually wade into fights and play a more active role in combat in the mid/late game. You dealt inconsequential damage and couldn't heal worth a damn, but could stun and magical journey your team across the map in an incredibly interesting playstyle!
Now, it doesn't matter how far ahead your lane gets and what tank items you have, nearly any damage champ (even if they are way behind in lane) are still going to shred you. Meanwhile, you can go Electrocute/Ignite/Scorch on Bard and hard carry the game with ridiculous burst, but simply blowing stuff up just isn't nearly as satisfying as a nice back-and-forth team fight from back in the day where you controlled the flow of battle. What happened to the game to turn it into such a one dimensional damage-fest? Was it Runes Reforged or a broader set of changes from season 7?
(I hope I don't come off as too negative, it's just rather frustrating with everything feeling so forced towards damage damage damage)
(by order, from left to right). I've done a lot of experimenting and this feels like by far the best optimized build for him, without going too much into detail. (Also, Guardian keystone.)
is fun.
