Could Teemo get a Tracking mechanic?

Illâoi Evê Siôn··62 votes·2,557 views

It seems like it would fit his character, and he has a lot of room in his kit (for changes rather than additions) since most of what he has are just passive abilities and simple buffs.

Plus, it would give him a new, unique form of Utility that could possibly make him a viable pick in certain match-ups (depending on how Tracking works) instead of just a meme that's only semi-viable because of its blind and annoying gameplay.

Things to consider:

  • Tracking could be an active, passive or toggle with different types of range.
  • Tracks could last much longer than Tremors (Rek Sai) which makes it less reliable but allows for more power.
  • Teemo's team could get a little bonus Movement Speed when following tracks, or something else if tracks aren't powerful enough on their own.
  • Tracks could become worn (or only then visible) the more enemies or the more often enemies walk over them, giving them bonus effects like maybe vision or so.
  • Tracks could only work in brush, highlighting brush as disturbed if an enemy passed through it recently.
  • There's room for Tracking on Teemo's ...
  • Passive: fits thematically
  • W: only gives him bonus Movement Speed; fits thematically; e.g. Teemo passively gets Movement Speed when following tracks and gets a burst of Movement Speed when he activates it
  • E: is just a passive that can be shifted elsewhere (passive: gain DoT on hit for a while when in brush or invis, Q and R as a passive or maybe as a Poison Dart ammo mechanic) and then you'd have room for a whole new ability
  • R: tracks could show popular walk paths of enemies so Teemo knows how to best set up his shrooms (to the side if he wants vision, or on crossroads if he wants to set something up).

Here's a concrete concept to give everyone an idea about how it could be implemented. The numbers are all guesses. Please tell me what you think of the concept or if any numbers are really off.

##W - Move Quick:

Passive: Enemy champions disrupt brush they walk through for 12 seconds. Teemo spots and after a short delay marks nearby disrupted brush for allied champions for a few seconds.

Active: Teemo gains bonus Movement Speed for 4 seconds. If there is an enemy champion or disrupted brush nearby, the Movement Speed is increased and decays to the original value over the duration.

  • Marker: Disrupted brush around Teemo would glitter slightly. After a short delay (around 0.25 to 0.5 seconds, maybe based on distance), Teemo reveals how long ago the brush was disrupted with an exclamation mark. Red = up to 2 seconds ago, Orange = 2 -- 7, Yellow = 7 -- 12. After 2 seconds the marker disappears and the brush goes on cooldown (in part to avoid visual clutter). Animation could maybe be a question mark turning into an exclamation mark. Again, would have to avoid visual clutter especially in combat. Marking delay does not count towards recent disruption time.
  • Brush Cooldown: 50/40/30/20/10 seconds (reduced by CDR)
  • Rating and double Movement Speed Range: 650 (a bit higher than the 600 Ward placement range)
  • Spotting Range: Sight Range (1200, but can be obstructed by terrain)
  • Movement Speed: 14/18/22/26/30%
  • Increased Movement Speed: 21/27/33/39/45% (+1% per 20 Ability Power) (would be shown as one green number)
  • Cooldown: 12 seconds
  • Cost: 25/30/35/40/45 Mana
  • Rengar: The exclamation mark would have to look different (thicker, more comically maybe) than Rengar's.

##General:

  • Movement Speed: 330 --> 335

This, alongside the Cooldown reduction and duration increase on Move Quick, is to make up for the loss of his passive Movement Speed if he hasn't been damaged.

Alot of this suggestion kinda sounds like Warwicks bloodscent.

Standgrounding1 votes

Except enemies wouldn't see that.

PlanetWarwick1 votes

in a way it is, ww hunts down people spilling lots of blood while teemo hunts down any enemy

Illâoi Evê Siôn7 votes

Warwick's Bloodscent only follows wounded enemies, it's pretty reliable, it only works out of combat, it only gives Warwick bonus, powerful effects, and it has a global range.

Tracking could last longer and wouldn't require wounded enemies, it'd probably be delayed somehow, it wouldn't be global (because Teemo has to be around to spot the tracks), its buffs could work in combat, and it could buff Teemo's team.

The other form of tracking I suggested would only work with brush.

Sounds like a cool idea. Would definitely like him to be reworked with a larger emphasis on being the "swift scout".

Honestly, this would be pretty nice to replace "Move Quick", but it seems like a difficult mechanic to implement effectively.

I would respond with an appropriate picture of "Ajani, Mentor of Heroes" but I am tired and lazy to find and paste it, so have a Rengar instead.

Also no.

As you said, giving more power to Teemo is unnecessary right now (he's in decent spot, actually) and as far as I know, he's not top priority for reworks, so that won't be happening for some time (hopefully).

Still, it's a cool idea.

You could add a mechanic where you place down a puddle, and when enemys step on them it leaves footprints which last 30 seconds (fade when they get stepped on), but the debuff lasts for 2 min.

Keylight XD3 votes

gains speed towards enemy champion who steps on shroom+first auto after first few seconds marks the target to take an additional % from team damage (not teemo) +that auto stuns/roots target for 1 sec = boom useful

great post btw

Warwick

New, unique mechanic.

SociopathFriend2 votes

E works best as a skill because you rank it. You can choose between nuke teemo or shred teemo.

Nuke teemo maxes Q and tries to burst Shred teemo maxes E and is one of the few champs to get use out of stuff like Nashors.

Sulghunter2 votes

Do you think Quinn should have some sort of tracking mechanic as well?

Vectros2 votes

Oh, I thought you meant something for me to always track the bastard so he can't hide from me...damn.

Zerenza2 votes

Something else i feel his kit needs is his Move Quick is a pretty outdated ability, it should be a small dash, we see him hopping over terrain in his picture, so maybe he could have that.

In terms of tracking it would make sense for Teemo to have a passive that gave him the ability to track where an enemy has been, it would probably be cool if he could reveal wards, scout's have a lot of duties and seeing an enemy is just one, being unseen and limiting the enemies view is another.

Doozku1 votes

I don't think he needs a dash. His movespeed is boring but it works for Teemo and lets him kite really well. If it was a short dash, it would need to have a short cd so that it isn't a straight nerf from his move quick, but then it would make Teemo play more like Vayne then Teemo. Maybe if he had a small dash and then some movespeed? He might as well just have a new ability then, or keep the spell the same.

I would like this.

Someone's already pitched this idea but I couldn't find it. But I liked it that time and I liked it this time and would love to see some teemo changes

MoldyCheese11 votes

you cant really change much about teemo alone, a full overhaul would be needed as everything currently in his kit is what makes everything else better.

Mr Alexius 271 votes

Isn't that his first ult? Before the shroom? They changed because it was pretty boring if i remember.

Lol

He's a scout though, so I don't believe hunting enemies is indicative of such a playstyle.

Illâoi Evê Siôn6 votes

Not hunt, track. The mechanic would have to implemented in such a way that it is indicative of such a playstyle. There's lots of ways it could do that though.

RainbowIcee1 votes

OP trust me... you don't want a teemo meta, unless you do! you devil worshiper! away with the!

ReZisT Lust1 votes

I think if teemos W- makes teemo roll in a direction and gaining a small ms boost. would be nice

SSShutTheDuckUp1 votes

A nice idea and I like.

My problem with your post is that you call him semi-viable due to his blind and annoyance only. You underestimate the power of the scout's code global taunt

Mighty Mortein1 votes

I would like to see Teemo get some changes to his kit. He has 2 and a half passive abilities if you count his W as a half passive. It is pretty stale and as people have said before, if you play Teemo, your whole team has to accept that you'll probably never be in teamfights. Since his kit is more suited to pushing.

Supreme Senpai691 votes

I want Teemo to become a jungler. That's what his theme is and it'd be awesome if he had a niche too

Ionian Vulpix1 votes

Teemo needs a full blown rework, but will likely never get one since he's such a meme champion in his current state that there'd be an even bigger uproar then when they try to nerf Lee Sin.

Doozku1 votes

Riot said that they are gonna do a rework on him eventually, but there are probably several champions that would come before him, because of his meme status.

Weasel Kensei1 votes

Scouts dont track things so much as go to places, observe, avoid capture, and occasionally kill those who try to stop them from returning with their scouting info.

Teemo is a scout theme champ, not a tracker.

Hunting people down is more of Warwicks thing. Teemo shouldnt be fighting Warwick for Warwicks theme.

General Theritt1 votes

The problem is that Teemo doesn't need it to be incredibly annoying, and at all stages, it would make him unbearable to face, not impossible. Teemo relies entirely on his high damage and annoyance factor. Shrooms block off key paths or can act as deadly terrain control, while his damage early and late can put a lot of characters 6 feet under if they aren't careful. Making Teemo have a tracking passive, like a legit target finder, would become a necessary part of his kit since it relies more on him executing priority low HP targets, teemo can 100 to 0 most champions by existing in their general vicinity. Tracking would allow teemo to consistently find his targets and chase them down relentlessly, and if someone steps on a shroom lategame when its powered up, Teemo just ignores any fights and picks off stragglers that dared to even get towards his shrooms. It would make him less of a snowball reliant toplaner or jungle or wherever his mains take him nowadays, and more of a pick making monstrosity that would snowball hard and make the counterplay to him extremely unfun. It wouldn't be "avoid shrooms, avoid teemo" it would be "pray to god you put enough distance between you and him and hope you don't have enough HP for him to just say screw it and find you". You're running for your life rather than playing carefully.

Doozku1 votes

That actually sounds pretty cool. His teamfight is already pretty mediocre if people buy a sweeper. Making him more of a pick champion would fit thematically and in game. He's supposed to be this assassin/scout/maniac character, and making him extremely good at making picks would fit that theme perfectly. As for the shrooms not having counterplay, just buy a sweeper.

General Theritt1 votes

I never said the shrooms didn't have counterplay, and I think you've never actually looked at teemo objectively. Teemo is forced to be mediocre because if he was good at anything remotely besides his oppressive laning phase and damage, he'd be a nightmare to balance. Teemo has always been the go-to pick for just killing the opponent top with high range DPS and DoT. This is ridiculously strong because his kit has built in invisibility, meaning he can very well sit in a lane and wait until someone screws up and he can 'gank' them for almost no resources. His E and W are explainable, ones a DoT that can crush almost any matchup, and his speed boost is notorious for letting him escape situations and chase down targets. When you look at his shrooms, they're just high damage wards that are easily disabled by an opponent team, but when stepped on, deal devastating damage to any ADC or squishy target.

Looking over this, you'd think it'd be more logical as a pick maker, no? And you'd be wrong. Teemo since his origin has been the "kill the opponent laner" type monster, not a snowball maker like Blitz or enabler like Nunu or maokai. He gets shit done, and since he's so snowball reliant, but can't make CC based picks, everything is stockpiled into his laning phase. He's MEANT to destroy you to avoid his massive weaknesses as a horrible teamfighter, mediocre pick making, outright unreliable snowballing if he can't get a kill, or otherwise having value when behind. Riot is forced to make Teemo mediocre, because the second that he has something OUTSIDE of lane that can win games, Teemo becomes a monster that allows him to snowball without the reliance to kill the opponent laner. If a gank fails on teemo or ally, he can TP to them, or walk himself, and find a outlying or weakened target, and force a man-hunt for the player. Being able to tell their path constantly, regardless of HP, while being a damage dealing powerhouse, makes his snowball easier to preform, and enables his allies to use his map knowledge to crush the opponent before they can react to the knowledge they're being tracked. Thanks to warwick's mechanics, he signals when he has knowledge of you and gives ample time to react to his burst type damage that isn't point and click, and basically point blank. Teemo can be quite a ways away and use that range to pressure you into unwinnable and inescapable situations.

You're looking at a positive without thinking about the negative aspects. Teemo is gimped by his very nature, and lore, while important, shouldn't just be thrown into as a reason to improve a character and give them unnecessary power. Remember Fiora rework release? XinZhao ? Graves ? Shyvana when her passive was reworked? KogMaw and his problem as an ADC in s6? Khazix after the assassin updates? Just because something fits their thematic and sounds cool doesn't mean it should be added to help a slightly struggling champion. If the champion is struggling because of a specific gimp, like Teemo's early game, its not the kit that's the problem. Its the character's design itself. Reworks and updates are notorious for this, adding in cool lore aspects and abilities in an attempt to improve the character's gameplay, and become problematic or gimped due to it. Yorick was oppressive as hell pre-work, since he was so broken and gimped on his "no fun allowed" but now you hardly see a soul complaining about him.

The problem is teemo's kit, not that he needs ability or power changes. Its with Teemo's identity being his defining balancing problem. He's gimped, he always will be.

MeBuffULongTime1 votes

I really like the idea of shifting around his kit a little bit. I enjoy his thematic but he could really use some modifications.

A couple number changes: Brush cooldown: change to 40/35/30/25/20 STATIC (cannot be reduced by CDR). The cooldown shouldn't be shorter than the bush disruption length.

Also make the movement speed decay over 4 seconds, or after 1 second of full speed. He shouldn't be getting 60% MS or more for 4 seconds on a 12 second cooldown.

Also change the cooldown to make it a bit higher considering he can get some CDR: 20/19/18/17/16 so he doesn't abuse it early game possibly.

This seems obvious now that you point it out.

It does decay to the original value over the 4 seconds. So at rank 5 with 300 Ability Power Move Quick would grant 60% Movement Speed decaying to 35% over 4 seconds on a 12 second cooldown. The cooldown has to be so low because Teemo will be relying on the active much more without the passive Movement Speed increase from the current Move Quick, in and out of combat.

That being said, I do think the original values might have to be decreased by a tiny amount (1% for each rank) because of the reduced Cooldown. It shouldn't be close to the current Move Quick in strength without having met a condition even if it is supposed to be used to boost Teemo's mobility out of combat.
