With CotC being nerfed into the dirt, it is time to address Grasp of the Undying

We will all admit that Courage of the Colossus is too strong at the moment. And it seems pretty obvious with the change below, that the only people that will continue to take it will be the people who have nothing better to take. http://imgur.com/a/vOAzw With this in mind, all of a sudden, we are right back to where we started. The Resolve tree is just a bag of shitty things.

  • CotC is now going to be a pile of poo compared to its original self
  • Grasp of the undying has been a pile of poo for a while now
  • The support one is so unsatisfying and useless that I cant remember the name nor will i waste the time looking it up

All of the people who adventured back into the Resolve tree are just packing their shit and ready to leave again. Very few to no people who grasp should be great on actually use Grasp. Nasus takes Stormraiders for goodness sake.

I feel it is far past time to give Grasp a nice buff. If this CotC nerf isnt accompanied by some QoL buffs in the resolve tree, be prepared to see nobody using it again.

It's far from a dead keystone.

These changes make the base shield 10% weaker with three enemy champions nearby, and it ends up being 20% stronger with four enemy champions nearby, and 33.333% stronger with five enemy champions nearby.

Whilst this might not seem like much, remember that it still has its health scaling untouched, and shields' effectiveness will scale with your resistances. These nerfs will make it a far less attractive keystone on divers like Vi, as they do not build as much resistances or health, but it will make it significantly stronger in teamfights on its intended users like Maokai and Nautilus.

These changes also prevent it from having a significant contribution in lane, allowing a choice of Grasp of the Undying or Courage of the Colossus.

Honestly, it seems like these changes push it to be a pretty healthy keystone, and encourages a lot of choice in the Resolve tree.

Agreed. Now, CotC will mainly be picked on its original intended audience - tanks in team fights. Rather than anybody who packs hard CC. I think it will still be quite powerful in certain situations, which is what keystones should be!

However, the other resolve keystones are a bit lackluster, even on their main users. Grasp of Undying, while nice for the first 15 minutes of the game, makes little difference come after the laning phase. And Bond of Stone is rather underwhelming at all stages of the game.

(Even if Bond of Stone is powerful, it is very uninteractive. It's always on, and doesn't take any work to proc. You can AFK and absorb damage from team mates. Wow, gameplay!)

Maybe grasp should also get stronger when there are more enemies around

Healing is increased by an additional .5% of max health for each nearby champion. Base heal is now 1% of maximum health down from 1.5%. Maximum heal is 3.5% maximum health, with 5 nearby enemies. I think this makes it fairly useful later, without being too oppressive early.

It will break even with the original grasp with 4 nearby enemies, which is fine, since grasp was nerfed because of its power in lane. (Most likely you won't be laning against 4 people). This new grasp will give more of an impact in team fights.

A base of 3. I get that it increases for nearby champions, but it's a base of 3.

At least Divers won't use it as much.

i feel like only divers would use it now, actually

they're the ones who actually jump into the middle of fights, the tanks are generally in the front line

Ralanr1 votes

Usually the front line is close enough for the proc range to get most of them.

Many of the divers who took it were junglers (i.e. Hecarim, Vi). As such, it will affect them less than laners.

The decreased base value will have less effect on them since they generally aren't using it to trade through the early-game.

I agree with the support keystone (Bond of Stone). I don't think grasp of the undying is that weak rn unless compared to current CotC, and CotC is going to become more of a teamfight keystone instead of being so needlessly strong in lane. (So its still going to be just as good on champs like Maokai and poppy.)

What makes CotC so oppressive is the fact it stacks on other shields and makes certain champions so much harder to kill. Champions with built in shields are champions who already have the CC too proc it. The entire concept of CotC was flawed to begin with.

Ralanr1 votes

It's funny because the only two champions that were really oppressive with it and had inbuilt shields were Poppy and Vi. Hecarim has no shield and goes bonkers.

It's not the shield stacking, at least that's not the main reason.

RocketRelm1 votes

The reason it's obnoxious on Hecarim is that his W gives him a degenerate in-combat sustain tool, with the caveat that he passes a minimum bar of survivability to make use of it. Fearless + CotC makes Hecarim immensely tanky for the first couple seconds of the fight with 0 item investment to meet this minimum bar.

i play as taric and yes he gets a built in shield however i go for windskeepers blessing over this

khorney1 votes

thats really not much of a nerf so who cares

No it's time to address the absurdity that is amount of free damage given by the other keystones. Every single keystone needs to be brought down to bond of stone level, not the other way around.

Bond of Stone wouldn't be so bad if they hadn't built an item that pretty much does the same thing...item 3109

I'm only worried that the new Courage will be way less usefull as a Keystone for Riven, Riot stated they wanted Riven to be able to choose (Fervor, TLD or CotC) But now with the base Values so low, to be able to utilize it you'd have to be planning to go Bruiser Riven anyways to use the defensive keystone choice. Which hurts vs Jayce as right now he just ducks you over anyways with the current CoTC.

(Not saying you can't win lane vs Jayce, just saying Good Riven vs Good Jayce is extremely difficulty for the Riven to come on top, as Jayce is Hybrid with his dumb burst.)

P.S Idc if you Downvote because you hate Riven, just generally concerned a Keystone choice may be removed for her.

I'm calling BS on "CotC" being bad now. I'm fairly certain people will still take it a lot -- I know I will, it still looks OP to me on many champions I play.

I mean it lost 6-124 hp per person... thats a pretty brutal nerf imo

It's not about how much it lost, it's about whether it's still strong. My feeling that it will still be used a LOT, you seem to disagree. I guess we'll know who is right in a couple of days...

I myself have not used CotC more than 10 games as a tank and fighter main. but CotC was never op it was never respected when proced. Ps Grasp desperately needs that buff/ nerf revert if not buffed after they revert the nerf
