@Meddler Have you ever thought about building an AP path for QSS?

ThatHaleState··61 votes·3,450 views

I think an AP path for QSS would be a really nice addition to the game. I know mages have item 3157 but it doesn't seem the same at all to me. Champs like Ryze, Diana, Cho, Ekko, and other mages who excel and or need to get close to the enemy get kind of stuck when it comes to a single form of reliable CC. But if you item 3157 they get away anyway. Thoughts?

I usually don't take side in all those AD vs AP debates, because I mainly play beefy champs or supports, that is to say, people who don't really buy offensive stats.

But I always wonder why the 2 sides want all the same toys as the other side. Why compare them? Isn't it more interesting if the 2 sides are really completely different?

I'm all for giving more items to Mages if they need them (and I hope the mid-year Roster Update will give them new shiny toys), but I'm not for giving more items to Mages just because ADC have them too (or the reverse).

Balance reasons. QSS allows for retreat at the cost of still taking damage, whereas unless you're under turret, your team is about to arrive, or your hard CC is almost off CD, Zhonya's is just delaying the inevitable. By giving squishy AD casters and mages the same options, you don't end up with the current fiasco.

What "current fiasco"?

You don't really answer me: why do mages need QSS? Maybe they do, I don't know, as I said I don't play a lot of Mages. I want a self-contained reason about Mages, not a comparison about the unfair state of the game because oh look, ADC have Mercurial.

And I'd say the same thing to an ADC asking for an Armor/AD item. There are also plenty of threads about that.

Id say a good amount of melee range mages Ekko Diana Akali etc, and mages that require remaining right next to their opponent to remain relevant Swain Ryze etc, or extremely immobile champions Xerath Brand Chogath etc can be completely shut down by 1 relaible source of CC. Lets say Morgana ult. A supp pushes one button, and you either have to try and kill your opponent and more thank likely die after in a teamfight, or just run out of the zone and be immediately zoned off for the important portion of that fight. The AD vs AP issue only arises because for 1300 an adc can continue to AA away or a zed or talon can keep on srcreaming in with their youmoous, or etc. So they can shed that one hindrance and then be able to either do their job or be caught by another CC. Mages are left with the shaft

AATTRROOXX3 votes

Not saying your other points are wrong, but since when is Morgana's ultimate reliable CC? Isn't it literally one of the least reliable CCs in the game?

Well to get the affect that im talking about, (pressing R and attachng your chain) forces people to react whether you finish the stun or not. Id say its reliable because it either will stun a target that stays, or forces another target away from the fight to not get stunned

AATTRROOXX1 votes

That does not address my point, in the game, this is effectively the least reliable form of CC. Yes it does require action, but in comparison to LITERALLY ANY STUN IN THE ENTIRE GAME it is extremely unreliable.

An AD path for Zhonya would be cool also.

Armor QSS?

Yes.

The problem I can see coming with an AP QSS is, unless it has really low AP, it could potentially crowd out the midlane item space. Otherwise it would be like Abyssal Scepter except better. Not to mention mages don't really need the active like the majority of AD mids do. Except for like, one or two champs, most AD mids are melee have an inherently more dangerous playstyle because of it. The active lets them get out of hard CC and possibly escape. Mages usually hang around the back of the fight where they're less likely to get CC'd, and if they get dived on they have Zhonya's to activate while their team takes care of the would-be assassin or what have you. Diana and Akali are really the only champs I can picture actually needing an AP QSS item, maybe Katarina.

Diana, Akali, Ryze (to maintain closeness for target spells), Cho'Gath (frustrating getting stunned after you did 75% of their hp and now you cant eat them), Ekko, Fizz, Katarina, Kennen, Kassadin, Swain are some that I can think of fast

Why not run Cleanse then?

Plenty of pros are willing to use it for middle laners in specific match ups/enemy picking certain champions.

That's still a pretty small number of champs, and most of them don't need it that bad. Ryze is still ranged and has crazy CC on top of that, Cho'Gath generally builds tanky or at the very least has a lot of HP, Swain is also still ranged, like Ryze, as well as being beefier than most mages and having decent healing with his ult, Kennen too is ranged and has good CC. Ekko has a bigass shield, stun, and his ult to get away on top of healing. I could see Kassadin and Fizz making use of such an item, but at the same time they're both two of the slipperiest dude in the game, Kass with his ult and Fizz with his troll pole.

In the end though, all of them could just build a QSS if Zhonya's isn't enough to get them out of trouble. It's not like AD champs have a similar option they other way around. There's no mini-Zhonya's to build to get the active cheap without wasting stats. Cleanse is an option too.

Seekers Armguard+ QSS, item that gives

40 AP 50 Armor 40 MR

Active: Same as Mercurial Scimitar

Basically be a reworked item 3170 .

AP QSS for AD Zhonya. Deal?

Melledoneus3 votes

I mean, at least APs have Zhonya's. We tanks have nothing to deal with the likes of Fiora and her ultimate.

1200 gold buys you QSS which drops her ult off of you

Ralanr3 votes

And gives us MR, which is a wasteful stat against her.

Melledoneus5 votes

And takes up an item slot for tanks which could be used for a tank item.

Ralanr4 votes

Because a lot of tanks don't want +80 AD. Even AD scaling tanks would prefer a tank item.

Melledoneus5 votes

Exactly. People don't seem to understand that.

It's like having to build an item that gives you 10 AD but lets you deal with one champion. IT'S A WASTE.

Probably why they added Executioner's Calling into LW. Grievous Wounds is really good, yes...but not Exe Calling alone.

Yeah, we need more armor and health to deal with her % true damage.

The issue here is that the qss build path already has the active you want. You have build hourglass all the way to get the active

Jet Sett2 votes

I want a second item 3191 path :/ Not sure how it would go, but it seems silly for items to have one situational path.

yay nibbers3 votes

The game could definitely use another mage-oriented armor item, especially with all the AD assassins who're going to be running around with the new Duskblade.

50000000000000002 votes

We could have one for more tanky option with less damage.

kile1471 votes

yeah, maybe have it give some MR too. AP, Armor, and MR for mages and the occasionally AP bruiser. Call it Spellflair Moonblade, which in no way bears resemblance to any other item in the game.

On one hand yes, ad gets both hexdrinker/maw AND Qss/merc scim.

On the other hand zhonyas is incredibly strong when used optimally.

True, but when used non optimally, or even a good bit of the time, it just gives the enemy time to set up the final strike. QSS doesnt have a down side sense it is instant. Drop the CC and keep going. Not "oh crap im gonna die better item 3157 .....well now im dead anyway.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

Solution: Remove Zhonya's, make better Mage defensive items that aren't game-warping.

Solidair31 votes

I would be fine with this.

I don't see Riot going for it at all, sadly.

Seenan2 votes

I feel like a 'tanky' QSS should be released too. Nothing we can do about Fiora's ult that deletes anyone anyway besides a 1300+ investment for QSS + Mercurial...Which is useless for tanks. Maybe less so for AA tanks.

FortisDominus2 votes

If AP champs get an AP QSS then i want an AD Zhonyas item

Comrade Napoleon2 votes

It is logical tha way it is, Mages need time for their abilities come off cooldown so they could fight back or escape. AD need to be un CCed so they could AA to fight back or lifesteal to survive

Slamurai Jack2 votes

The day champions like Lux andKayle can get QSS without compromising their build is the day this game dies. And do you people honestly want champs like Vayne Riven Kalista Ezreal MasterYi to have access to an AD version of Zhonyas? Think people.

DarkRitual1 votes

Mikaels is where I would like to see it go. Currently the stats and active of Crucible just don't make sense. Remove the heal, and have it build out of QSS, Idol, and another minor component.

SoMNia1 votes

Lose the ability to cleanse other champions, and lose the Chalice passive? No, thanks. Crucible is a support item.

DarkRitual1 votes

I never said you lose the ability to cleanse other champions. But having that alongside the Mana Font would be too much.

SoMNia1 votes

Well, that's the difference between Crucible and QSS. Crucible can't be used when stunned or silenced (or charmed, or taunted, or anything else that prevents ability casts), but can be used on other champions (as long as you are free to cast). QSS can be used any time, only on yourself. Having a full-fledged QSS (including unlimited self cleanse) that can target anyone on the team would be OP, even without Mana Font. They specifically cited Crucible's position as a support item as the reason for not allowing the removal of stuns from the holder.

DarkRitual1 votes

The inability to use when stunned would not need to be changed. It would work pretty much exactly as it does now. You can't use targeted items when stunned/supressed.

SoMNia1 votes

So if it works the same as now, why remove Mana Font? Not to mention the active arguably getting worse when you upgrade, by losing the very thing that people build QSS for in the first place. I don't see why this is desirable. An AP carry doesn't want this, and a support already builds it without QSS.
