I am starting to report players for this and you should too.

Not ending the game when you can. I'm not talking like there was a fight and one person limped out of it with 50% HP and could go end it. No I mean the team opens the nexus up dances kills you as you spawn then just go off to kill the whole JG and make you there play thing until your team surrenders because they simply will not end the game. The other team is not there for your pure entertainment, this is a competition. Not ending quickly is one of the most disrespectful things you can do to the other team. It is the definition of unsportsmanlike.

Just the other week, a team did this to us and we ended up spawning, killing them, then rushing their own nexus and winning instead. I completely agree with your sentiment and like I just pointed out, any dishonorable actions, not just this one can cost your own team badly: bush-camping, spawn-camping, emote-spamming, etc.

SSJTribe5 votes

Ugh yeah. Had a game recently where my team did that, opened the Nexus but wouldn't kill it (I was dead sadly). The other team comes back and starts killing us, and we didn't have all 5 members for a while because our spawn time was so staggered. We still won, but it took like 15 more mins than it should've.

AATTRROOXX4 votes

Bush camping is a legitimate strategy, at times. Having someone with a hook definitely helps. Spawn camping, however, is very mean because that team must be so far ahead that they could finish instead. Emote spamming is more neutral and annoying than dishonorable and mean.

The other team was terrible. That miracle very rarely happens. And I'm on your side lol.

What exactly do you mean by "bush-camping?" Sitting in the jungle in an attempt to catch people out and assassinate an unsuspecting person is a legitimate strategy.

Emote spamming is annoying but I don't think it's report worthy. Most of the time it's psychological and is used to put the enemy on tilt or successfully bait them. It's another viable strategy for winning games.

As long as the objective of their actions is winning and not just prolonging a game to belittle their opponents it's not an issue to me (of course I will not tolerate verbal abuse or anything of that nature).

Emote spamming is synonymous to verbal abuse and intentional mockery. Your words directly contradict themselves.

Quort6 votes

I disagree. Emote spamming is incredibly annoying but it's not even remotely comparable to verbal abuse. Verbal abuse is the continued, excessive, and targeted use of language with the intent of severely offending, insulting, or harming the victim.

Spamming emotes just relays an often nonsensical, sometimes mildly inflammatory, message with no particular meaning. They're a frustration that can be easily avoided and they do not inflict harm on anyone.

Many people simply enjoy the hilarity of a Champions movement while spamming dance. Many people just like tilting the opponent with champions like Lux, Blitzcrank, and Lulu who have notoriously annoying laughs. Many people actually use the Taunt emote to taunt their opponents. It's an available aspect of the game that I don't find all that bad.

And believe me, I've been on the receiving end more times than I can count and I just laugh it off and spam right back at them. Somehow we might end up just dancing in lane and we all have a good time. Sometimes I get angry and try to chase that dang Blitzcrank spambot and get pulled into their waiting team... "Haha, oops!" I say because I don't get so bent out of shape from it. If someone wants to dance on my champion's corpse, then by all means go ahead! It just gives my team more time to catch them.

There are many things in the game that can be frustrating, annoying, etc... Laning against Kalista while you're an immobile melee is one of the worst experiences. Or if you're Malzahar against a Galio. I always rage when I'm put against a Fizz. Do I get mad at Fizz players? Galio players? Kalista players? Losing is frustrating. Do I yell at the enemy team? No. I don't. Emote spam is just another thing on that list.

I realize everyone will have a different opinion of what's tolerable and report worthy. That's why the report system exists; so everyone can (hopefully responsibly) contribute to the maintenance of the online community in the way they believe is most conducive to a positive gaming environment. So please, if you find someone's use of the emotes to be unreasonable somehow, then by all means send in a report. I personally wouldn't, but that's a freedom we all have to express.

You're confusing the term "legitimate" with "honorable." They do not mean the same thing and I sincerely hope some day you learn the difference.

Again, let me reiterate that dishonorable behavior like this can severely cost your team. Just last night, I blew up a super-fed Talon who was attempting this strategy without realizing it was warded. Bush-camping got his entire team killed and they lost the dragon buff, all of which swung the momentum into our favor because of that 1 BM trap he attempted to set.

Quort1 votes

Oh no! Talon tried a strategy that didn't quite work, the dishonorable fool! /s

Please, spare me the nonsense. Many Assassins will do that. I know I've waited in bushes to kill unsuspecting victims with plenty of Champions before; really anyone with good burst can do it. Talon, LeBlanc, Teemo, Garen, Ezreal, you name it!

Not every strategy will work every time. In that case your team had strong ward coverage. The Talon neglected to sweep the area before hiding. He was caught out and it cost his team the game. It happens. All you need is solid judgement of when to use what strategies.

But what about a different scenario? Talon hides in a bush. He catches the enemy Support/Jungler scouting and defeats them. His allies take advantage of their numbers to force an engage and Ace the enemy team. Well played Talon! He just swung the game in his favor. This happens too.

And contrary to your statement, I have not confused "legitimate" with "honorable." It's a game where you fight to defeat your opponents using ALL of the strategies, skills, and knowledge at your disposal. An ambush will serve you well if you ever learn to employ it.

Pika3104 votes

I have expressed my views as honestly and clearly as possible.

It seems you will not be swayed in your opinion.

It's not "my opinion." It's a basic concept of human decency and respect, which unfortunately you lack the appropriate empathy to comprehend.

Quort2 votes

It is your opinion. You have explained to me how you feel certain actions by players should be treated. I have disagreed.

You believe that preparing an ambush is a reportable offense based on your own concept of what is honorable. I do not. It is simply another way to catch an opponent and eliminate them in order to win. Unfortunately, there isn't much more I can say about this. It seems completely reasonable to me so I reason that any differences we have on this matter stem from a misunderstanding in how "bush-camping" is defined as you never provided a succinct definition (despite my asking).

You believe that emote-spamming is report worthy. I do not. I believe it is a generally harmless, albeit annoying, action that does not significantly impact the game experience. Of course how this affects each person that experiences it is different. That is why I will only do it in the presence of those, such as my brother, that I know do not mind. Because I am unsure of how others will react, I refrain from doing it because it is an action I find unnecessary to my own enjoyment of the game. However, should another person enjoy spamming emotes, whether to taunt or bait their opponent or simply to enjoy the nonsensical quotes and movements of their champion, it does not overly bother me and I have no problem with allowing it. That is why I would not report it.

That said, I will not tolerate anything abusive. Should another player show severe discomfort (beyond simple annoyance or anger) and ask the offending player to stop, only to be met with continued spamming, then I would believe the offending player had caused unnecessary distress and I would strongly consider reporting them.

However, what I believe to be unnecessary distress depends on my moral relativity. As I explained previously, frustration, anger, disappointment, pessimism, and other negative feelings which may be considered distressing are all to be expected in a competitive game. I believe that emote spamming is just another facet of the experience and is, for the most part, harmless in that regard.

However, my beliefs differ depending on the offending action. To help explain my stance I present the following scenario:

Many players will complain and become extraordinarily irate if someone were, for example, to continually gank their lane, especially with Champions such as Shaco, Evelynn, Vi, Warwick, etc... that are notoriously difficult to defend against. Despite causing the player distress, those ganks are beneficial to the gankers' team and their hopes for victory. They put the enemy laner significantly behind. They can anger the enemy laner thus preventing them from thinking rationally. They can use their lead to pressure other lanes. It is an allowable strategy that is supported by the game's objectives and mechanics. I would not condemn this action at all. If one cannot handle being the target of coordinated gameplay, then they should be more hesitant of playing the game. Repeatedly attacking an enemy player that is behind may not be the most honorable thing, but so long as it serves the purpose of helping the team achieve victory as opposed to simply belittling the opponent, I find no issue.

To put it bluntly, I have agreed with the majority of what you have posted elsewhere in the thread (barring a few naive statements and your general attitude in addressing others) so it baffles me that we have such a vicious disagreement here. I have once again attempted to explain my beliefs as clearly as possible to eliminate any potential misunderstandings and hopefully put this unpleasant episode behind us. In the end we may still disagree, but I hope that we can do so without demeaning each other.

I will also state that I am not trying to argue that emote spamming or ambushing opponents is the "right" thing to do, only that they are not "wrong" and not something I would consider report worthy. As you so eloquently said, "no one has the 'right' to be disrespectful." However, what one considers disrespectful is up to our own interpretations. To claim otherwise is to deny reality.

Finally, I assure you that I do not lack empathy. You don't have to worry about that though I appreciate your concern.

Pika3103 votes

I'm not gonna read that wall of text. Someone who believes it's okay to behave in a dishonorable and blatantly disrespectfully unsportsmanlike manner isn't worth that much time. I just hope one day you learn what the word "empathy" means before it's too late.

Quort1 votes

Oh, I see the problem here. The problem is you. I've given you more patience than youre worth and have tried to interact with you politely even while you've mocked me.

Your refusal to read what I took the time to write for you in an effort to bridge the gap between our differences is representative of nothing short of immense ignorance and immaturity.

Your behavior and attitude during our conversation has been nothing if not disrespectful. Have you noticed how YOU treat people in the name of your self-righteous honor? Do you not see the hypocrisy there? Are you so blinded by your own ideals?

I have no respect for someone such as yourself. I did my best to talk to you and you have not reciprocated. You have not tried to understand. You have done nothing but moan and whine and it is disgusting.

I hope that one day you learn how to be a decent human being. Until then, I have no more time for you.

Pika3102 votes

This is the same logic that pros warn players against: "The problem is someone else and not me. They need to get better, cause I played perfectly."

It's always someone else that's the issue and never yourself. You're never wrong and you don't make mistakes.

This is arrogance and continues to feed into the lack of empathy I already stated.

You guys realize that teams in worlds were fined or flat disqualified from competing next year for doing this, right? "Unsportsmanlike conduct" is a ban-worthy offense regardless, and dragging out a game IS unsportsmanlike. It was one of the chinese teams last year who did, drug out a 26 minute win to 40 minutes just to pad their KDA/CS and they ended up getting a massive fine for bad sportsmanship.

People who BM for any reason are despicable - theres a fine line between banter (Ha! kitty need some milk?) and BMing someone (Lel teemo so hungry). It is the duty of whoever is winning to be gracious in victory - not piss someone off by taunting them just because youre winning. Its actually quite sad that people seem to think harassing someone who is losing is okay. In the actual sport you would be fined and potentially removed from the team for it.

Pro play is very different from casual play. They got that fine for dragging it out because it became less fun for people to spectate.

Thats not how the rules work, dude. Pros are held to the same behavioral standard as casuals; the only difference is pros have more consequences. the rules are the same regardless of if youre sneaky or solwolf.

If a kid in little league baseball gets a home run, does his rounds, then turns around and does the "kiss my ass" taunt, hes going to be removed from the game or benched for a few games because of it. Same thing would happen to a pro, except the entire team would be fined.

For all of the 2015 rulings, not a single one deals with an entire team being fined or disqualified for "unsportsmanlike behavior/conduct" in-game. Penalties regarding "unsportsmanlike conduct" have been dealt to individual players who belong to competitive teams, and on an individual basis

Lol, I've won games that we would have lost if not for the enemy being cocky and letting us live when they shouldn't have. Only one won team fight can secure a victory late game if you rush mid and nexus. So I don't report them for it, I hope they repeat it and learn their lesson the hard way ;)

Pika31022 votes

Disrespectful players never learn from the consequences of their actions. They just deflect blame elsewhere and continue to remain toxic. If they were smart to know what honor means, they wouldn't be behaving dishonorably in the first place.

MorganKaines5 votes

Well, if the action has actual consequences for them, like losing a won game, they might think twice about dancing around the nexus next time. They might find other ways to be disrespectful, I am sure of it, but they might not want to lose another match because they didn't finish when they could :)

Z Statistic10 votes

These are the implications of what you've said:

  1. Bad people can't reform

  2. Bad people don't choose to be bad; they're just stupid

  3. Honor trumps virtually everything in decision making

  4. Is provably false by Lyte himself

  5. Is just plain naive

  6. Is ludicrously narrow-minded because it assumes that even if everyone does hold honor in the highest regard, they have identical interpretations of honor to yours.

The Ecdysiast14 votes
  1. Reform doesn't take away crimes.
  2. Consciously making the decision to be a bad person is also stupid.
  3. Honor in this game boils down to "not wasting time." Trolling wastes time, feeding wastes time, typing harassment into chat wastes time. Refusing to end a game so it lasts 20 more minutes for the enemies who aren't having fun wastes time.
PDE5 Inhibitors9 votes

As Cam Newton said, "If you don't want me to dance in the end zone, then keep me out of it."

There is no rule saying that you must end the game as soon as you can. Stop crying about every little thing. Bottom line is you're being a really sore loser, and that's one of the most disrespectful things you can to the other team. It is the definition of unsportsmanlike.

AWildAPKalista24 votes

You're intentionally overlooking a few things:

  1. Players in Football receive heavy fines every time they show off after a touchdown. Especially the more blatantly mocking their actions are, the more severe the penalty is. This is decided by the League, not the opposing team.
  2. You're assuming the players being disrespected either lose the game or are losing. As several people here have already mentioned, they've been disrespected by the enemy team and win or are winning.

No, of course celebration is not unsportsmanlike, but **PREEMPTIVE **celebration most assuredly is.

PDE5 Inhibitors9 votes

LMFAO.

  1. Players do NOT receive a fine every time they "show off" after a touchdown. For excessive celebrations, yes. Every time? Not even close.
  2. OP was bitching about people celebrating while winning. That's what I was commenting on, not all the other cry babies. So I'm not sure why this is even mentioned?

You must have some REALLY thin skin if you get upset about the enemy taunting in a video game lol. It's quite comical actually. I shall continue to do it, and not be punished for it since there are 0 rules being broken :)

The Ecdysiast14 votes

The OP wasn't talking just about taunting. The point of the post was that people refuse to end the game when they can. The only thing similar in football would be if a team was 48-0 and kept having guys run the wrong direction.. (there's also a time limit in football, being IN the end-zone means it was a touchdown to end the game, not refusing to, and taunting isn't a form of celebration. Dancing is.) Football is all-around the worst sport to compare to this video game.

I had a game the other day where i was losing bad and only one nexus tower remained, they started doing that and flaming on ALL chat, but karma was a bitch that day and i got fed with vlad due to their stupidity making our team win every teamfight and push slowly to their nexus winning the game, it was one of the best feelings i had in this game in a long time.

Anti asshole vs Pro asshole.

Wasting peoples time by not ending and taunt spamming is an asshole move and some dont like it, and are anti asshole.

Others are assholes and want to do those things, so they take the pro asshole stance.

Heres the test, if you do pointless things, that make you feel good, but you know makes others annoyed... then your an asshole. "But Weasel, that means winning automaticly makes me and asshole." No it dosnt, winning is the point, and dicking off wasting time spamming taunts at the exposed nexus is in direct opposition to the point of the match.... so asshole move to do it.

Sadly assholes and the people who dont like them cant see eye to eye much... go figure. So report assholes, let them be mind boggled why they get reported, they will eventually figure out its because no one likes assholes.

If all you enjoy is killing, play CoD, Waframe, or any other game based on killing, that doesn't require you to drag out a match for 5 enemies to do so. All I'm saying. There are plenty of video games out there for people who prioritize killing over objectives. You're the sort of guy who'd play Capture the Flag for kills and never use his ordinance, which could end in losing the match and forcing the 4 allies who haven't gotten the daily points for playing CtF to play again if they want the points.

Getting kills while playing to win is fine. Playing to get kills while refusing to end isn't

It's not hard to get kills if you really want to. Just pick Katarina.

Refusing to win when the opportunity arises is the same as trolling. To trolls, what they're doing is fun, regardless of the affect it has on the outcome of the game. It also falls under "assisting the enemy team," so it is a reportable offence.
